Chapter 332: Si Rong Has Died

~8 min read 1,411 words

Si Rong did not answer.

Fear welled up in her heart; Jiang Siyu stepped forward, somewhat terrified, and called out once more, but Mother still had no reaction.

The family portrait in her hand slowly fell to the ground.

"Mom—!"

The sudden turn of events threw the Jiang Family into chaos.

"Call 120!"

"Get the military doctor over here first!" Jiang Cheng immediately went to make the call; because he was so tense, he felt as if his legs had lost all sensation as he walked.

In less than half an hour, Si Rong was sent to the hospital.

"The tumor in the patient's brain has already metastasized; there is no need for surgery," the doctor said after a consultation.

"No! I beg you, I beg you to save my wife," Jiang Cheng knelt halfway on the ground, with Jiang Sinian half-embracing him from behind.

The father who had once stood tall and upright seemed to have aged significantly because of his mother's collapse.

Even his shoulders could no longer straighten.

"Dad, calm down first; Mom still needs you," Jiang Sinian helped him to a stool, "I will go talk to the doctor."

Jiang Cheng gripped his son's hand, his eyes as ignorant as a child's, and he said: "You must save your mom; the family cannot do without her, cannot do without her..."

"Dad, don't worry," Jiang Sinian felt a lump in his throat and immediately consulted the experts in the hospital, "Please, think of another way, or perhaps a visiting surgeon, but as long as there is a glimmer of hope, our family is willing to try."

"I can understand the feelings of you patients, but in your mother's condition, no doctor can do anything; you should prepare as soon as possible."

"The malignant disease in her brain must have been left behind by a severe injury in her youth, only it didn't flare up when she was young."

"No, no," Jiang Siyu tugged at the doctor's sleeve, "She isn't even seventy years old this year; save my mom! Can any of you save her..."

No matter how hysterical she became, there was no way out.

In the face of death, everyone appeared powerless.

There was no way, no miracle, and even grief seemed utterly useless.

Si Rong passed away just like that, suddenly.

When Si Han, the second brother of the Si Family, saw his nephew kneeling before him, he retreated two steps.

"What are you saying?"

Last year the eldest brother was gone, and now even the little sister...

"Second Uncle, my mom, she has passed away."

Jiang Sinian knelt prostrate on the ground, sobbing uncontrollably.

Tian Chang helped him up and, with reddened eyes, said to Si Han, "Let's go help."

Heaven is truly heartless; such a good person as the little sister actually left so suddenly.

"How is your dad?" She knew the little sister and her brother-in-law had always been close, so she asked.

"My dad has been holding my mom and won't let anyone touch her."

Si Han took a deep breath, knowing that only he could speak to him now.

"Good child, let's go! To your house."

In the dim room, Jiang Cheng looked at the person on the bed with a peaceful sleeping expression; he carefully tucked in the quilt and leaned down close to her cheek, "Are you very cold?"

"Don't be afraid, I'll warm you up."

The door was knocked, "Jiang Cheng! Open the door, it's Second Brother."

"Second Brother?" Jiang Cheng's lips curled slightly, and he said very happily to Si Rong, "You like Second Brother the most; I'll let him come see you, alright?"

Si Han entered the room, and seeing the scene inside, his tears fell first; he patted Jiang Cheng on the shoulder, "I'll have a word with Little Sister."

Seeing his little sister motionless, he felt as if his heart were being crushed by a giant boulder, so painful he couldn't catch his breath.

"Little Sister, how could you just leave like this? What is Second Brother supposed to do?"

"We were originally three siblings,..."

Jiang Cheng listened to him talk quietly from the side, and after ten minutes, he began to shoo him away, "Second Brother, Rongrong needs to rest."

"Jiang Cheng! Let Rongrong be buried! She is already dead."

"If you continue to keep her like this, you will only let her body rot and cause her embarrassment; have you forgotten that she loved beauty the most?"

Jiang Cheng closed his eyes, and only after a long time did he open them and ask him, "Second Brother, I will listen to you; Rongrong loves beauty the most."

"Give me another ten minutes; I will dress her up properly before sending her on her way."

It was his fault; he had forgotten what Rongrong had said before.

She wanted to go first, and he had to handle her funeral in a grand and decent manner.

The burial clothes were prepared by Si Rong herself in advance; after Jiang Cheng helped her change into them, he used a comb to fix her hair.

"Very beautiful!" He was very satisfied and leaned down to plant a kiss on Si Rong's forehead, "You go first; I will come to accompany you soon, don't be afraid."

"The house is so busy; let Aunt Xiao Yu come over to help," Jiang Sinian discussed with his sister.

Jiang Siyu picked up her phone to call Aunt Xiao Yu, but no one answered on the other end.

After a while, the call was returned; it was Aunt Xiao Yu's daughter-in-law, "Is that Siyu? My mother-in-law has been admitted to the hospital."

"Is she sick?"

The other side couldn't help but say, "It's a bit embarrassing to say, but my mother-in-law is used to being frugal; she took a bag of hairy fig roots back from your place, intending to stew soup for my son. Fortunately, she tasted it herself first; it was poisonous!"

Originally, she had intended to go to the Jiang Family to demand an explanation; her mother-in-law had only drunk a few sips and it caused kidney damage. If her son had drunk it, wouldn't he have lost his life?

As it turned out, after her mother-in-law woke up, she said embarrassedly that this thing was originally meant to be thrown away by Si Rong, but she couldn't bear to discard it and took it home.

Hearing that Si Rong had passed away suddenly, she also cried, asked for the time of Si Rong's funeral, and struggled to go and see Si Rong one last time.

Only then did Jiang Siyu realize how wise her mother had been; unfortunately, Heaven has no eyes, and even though she escaped Bai Mo's harm, she could not escape this destined calamity.

The funeral for Si Rong was very grand; all the friends and relatives they had built up good relations with over their lifetime came.

It was not until evening that everything slowly quieted down.

"Where is Dad?"

"Still at the cemetery, keeping Mom company."

"With Dad like this, won't something happen?" Jiang Siyu was worried, and she wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes, "I want to take Dad to our home for a while first; I'll push back some work during this time."

"He won't go," Jiang Sinian understood his father's personality, "In this family, he only listened to Mom. It's better to let him stay at home; I'll have Niu Niu keep him company more."

"That's true, Niu Niu was raised by the two of them; Dad will feel better when he sees Niu Niu."

The brother and sister found their way to the cemetery.

"The scenery here is quite nice," Jiang Cheng squatted beside the grave, "You must have noticed too, this is a double grave, and the other half is my spot."

"Oh right, I buried that phone with you as a burial object; it's a mysterious thing that had a deep connection to you, I hope it can bring you luck over there too."

He leaned against the tombstone, his gaze filled with attachment, "I can't go to find you yet, you won't blame me, will you?"

"The children have just experienced the pain of losing their mother; they are the children you worked so hard to give birth to, I have to cherish them."

Jiang Cheng bowed and half-hugged the tombstone, which was ice-cold to the bone, "Old woman, I miss you."
