Chapter 110: Inheritance Path

~8 min read 1,421 words

The light sphere in Ji Chen's palm was like a newborn sun, dazzling and eye-catching, dispelling the gloom that hung over everyone's hearts.

He cast a contemptuous glance at those old fogies who were still in shock, a look of disdain curling the corners of his mouth. He took Ceng Yue's hand and strode away into the distance, leaving behind a group of "petrified" traditional ability users.

"The Inheritance Path, open!" Ji Chen's voice exploded in the air like a thunderclap, echoing incessantly.

The old man with the crane-like hair and youthful face watched their retreating backs, his brows locked tight, words stuck in his throat as if he had something to say but could not get it out.

The two of them were like a sharp blade, ruthlessly slicing through the hypocritical calm. After they left, a breeze blew by, bringing with it an eerie tranquility.

Of course, the calm was only on the surface; the truth was that undercurrents were surging.

Those who prided themselves on being orthodox ability users dared not act presumptuously in the open, but their underhanded maneuvers behind the scenes had never ceased.

Ji Chen and Ceng Yue naturally would not be naive enough to think they would truly let go; their supernatural perception was fully activated like radar, cautiously guarding against the movements around them.

The air was filled with a scent of decay, as if it were the smell of history gathering dust.

The surrounding scene gradually became blurred; the familiar high-rise buildings turned into rolling, desolate mountains and wild ridges. It was as if they had traveled through space, instantly arriving in a mysterious area.

Gusts of cold wind whistled past their ears like ghosts, and the withered leaves on the ground were swept up, spinning around like countless ghosts dancing.

Ji Chen and Ceng Yue looked at each other, both seeing gravity in the other's eyes.

This was definitely not a safe place!

They carefully stepped into an ancient ruin.

At the entrance of the ruin, two massive stone pillars towered into the clouds, covered in the marks of time, with incomprehensible runes carved upon them, emitting an ancient and mysterious aura.

Stepping inside was like entering a giant maze; all around were towering stone walls, airtight and suffocating, making one feel oppressed and breathless.

The ground was covered with pits of various sizes, seemingly the marks left by some kind of mechanism.

The air was filled with a faint, nauseating smell of blood.

Every step they took was extremely cautious, for fear of triggering some mechanism; once triggered, the consequences would be unimaginable.

Those traps that had originally been hidden in the darkness now seemed to have opened their bloody maws, waiting for the arrival of prey.

"Click!" A faint sound, appearing exceptionally harsh in the silent space.

Ji Chen and Ceng Yue stopped at the same time, their nerves like taut strings, ready to snap at any moment.

The two stood back-to-back, vigilantly scanning their surroundings; the atmosphere was so oppressive it made it hard to breathe.

"What... what is this?!" Ceng Yue said softly, her tone carrying a hint of uncertainty.

Ji Chen did not speak, only gripping Ceng Yue's hand tightly, a wave of warmth flowing from his palm.

He knew that the real test had only just begun.

After the "click" sound, the ground began to vibrate slightly, the runes carved on the stone walls flickered with eerie light, and a powerful energy fluctuation came from the depths of the ruin.

Suddenly, a translucent figure slowly emerged from the stone wall, tall and imposing, majestic like a god descending to earth.

"Trespassing in the Inheritance Ground, death!" The Guardian's voice was low and majestic, like a judgment from hell, every word striking at the hearts of Ji Chen and Ceng Yue.

"We have no ill intent, we only wish to obtain the inheritance." Ji Chen responded neither humbly nor arrogantly.

"Inheritance? Just by you ants? Wishful thinking!" The Guardian's tone was full of disdain, as if Ji Chen and Ceng Yue were as insignificant as dust in his eyes.

"Ants? Heh, you underestimate us too much." Ji Chen sneered.

The atmosphere instantly became tense, the air filled with a strong smell of gunpowder, as if a great battle could break out at any moment.

The long sword in the Guardian's hand emitted a faint cold light, and the surrounding temperature plummeted, as if they were in an ice cellar.

Ji Chen took a deep breath, pushing his supernatural perception to the limit, carefully observing the surrounding environment, trying to find a flaw.

He noticed that the pits on the ground were not chaotic, but arranged according to a certain pattern, and the Guardian's movement trajectory also seemed to be affected by these pits.

"Interesting..." The corners of Ji Chen's mouth rose slightly, a bold idea already forming in his mind.

He quietly injected a trace of his supernatural ability into the ground, spreading it along the trajectory of those pits.

Ceng Yue observed every move Ji Chen made from the side.

The Guardian seemed to have sensed Ji Chen's small movements; suddenly, the ground beneath his feet began to flicker with light, and a powerful suction force pulled him downward.

"What is happening?!" The Guardian was shocked, trying to break free, only to find himself firmly bound.

A flash of cunning light crossed Ji Chen's eyes as he said indifferently, "Sorry, forgot to tell you, what I'm best at is—crowd control!"

Ceng Yue looked at Ji Chen's confident appearance, her heart filled with a sense of security. She suddenly noticed that a faint golden light seemed to be radiating from Ji Chen, as dazzling as a deity.

Just then, Ceng Yue's gaze fell on the stone stele behind the Guardian. Her heart stirred, and she whispered to Ji Chen, "Look, that stone stele is carved with strange symbols; they seem to be a weakness we can exploit."

Ji Chen's gaze followed Ceng Yue's guidance, and sure enough, he saw a stone stele covered in runes.

A sharp light flashed in his eyes, and he quickly formulated a new tactic in his mind: "Good, let's use these runes!"

The two looked at each other with tacit understanding, as if they shared the same thoughts.

The surrounding environment seemed to be cheering them on, the runes on the stone walls shining even brighter in the night.

Ceng Yue quickly set up an energy array in the surroundings to buy time for Ji Chen.

Ji Chen quietly gathered his supernatural ability at his fingertips, preparing to launch a fatal blow.

The Guardian roared, the long sword in his hand aimed at Ji Chen, the tip of the blade carrying a cold light as he struck at Ji Chen instantly.

Ji Chen dodged to the side, the light sphere in his hand like a brilliant star, slamming into the ground beneath the Guardian.

The pits on the ground were detonated by his supernatural ability, and the massive shockwave sent the Guardian stumbling back several steps.

"You think this can stop me?" The Guardian's voice was like thunder as he launched another fierce offensive.

Ji Chen and Ceng Yue dodged continuously, their coordination seamless.

Ceng Yue's supernatural ability was like a surging river, endless and continuous, and the Guardian gradually felt overwhelmed.

Suddenly, Ceng Yue gave a light shout: "Now!" She pointed her finger at the stone stele, the runes instantly lit up, and a powerful energy fluctuation trapped the Guardian within.

Ji Chen took the opportunity to launch an all-out attack, the light sphere in his hand turning into a brilliant beam of light, hitting the Guardian with pinpoint accuracy.

The Guardian let out a heart-wrenching scream, his body torn apart by the powerful energy impact and turned into nothingness.

The surrounding ruin structures shook in the massive shockwave, the stones on the ground shattered one after another, and dust filled the air.

Some young ability users watching from afar were conquered by the combat techniques of Ji Chen and Ceng Yue, their eyes full of admiration.

Ji Chen and Ceng Yue looked at each other. They stood at the entrance of the Inheritance Ground, filled with anticipation, but the entrance itself emitted a mysterious power, as if an invisible hand were summoning them.

Ji Chen took a deep breath and said firmly, "Ceng Yue, are we ready?"

Ceng Yue nodded, a determined light shining in her eyes: "Of course, no matter what lies ahead, we will face it together."
