Chapter 219: Exploring the Energy Ball

~7 min read 1,234 words

Ji Chen and Ceng Yue cautiously approached the Energy Ball; every step felt like treading on cotton—light and airy, yet incomparably heavy.

The pressure emitted by the Energy Ball was like an invisible giant hand, pressing down on them until they couldn't catch their breath.

The surrounding air seemed to have solidified, thick as paste, making even breathing difficult.

Fine, cold sweat seeped from Ji Chen's forehead, sliding down his sharp-angled cheeks.

Ceng Yue gripped Ji Chen's hand tightly, a thin layer of sweat blooming on her palms.

She could feel the violent energy radiating from the Energy Ball, like a caged beast that might break its bonds at any moment and tear them to shreds.

She subconsciously licked her dry lips, her heart thumping wildly as if it were about to leap out of her chest.

"Let me try first," Ji Chen said in a low voice. His tone was deep and steady, like a calming pill that brought Ceng Yue a measure of relief.

He slowly extended his hand, palm facing the Energy Ball; a layer of pale golden light emerged on his hand, like flowing liquid, radiating a faint warmth.

This was his Supernatural Ability—absorbing and converting energy.

The moment his Supernatural Ability touched the Energy Ball, a powerful surge of energy recoiled, like an enraged giant dragon, sending Ji Chen and Ceng Yue stumbling backward.

"Damn it!" Ji Chen couldn't help but curse, staggering a few steps before steadying himself.

A sensation of numbness spread through his arm, as if he had been electrocuted.

Ceng Yue was no better off; she let out a muffled groan, her face turning somewhat pale.

A surge of nausea rose in her chest, and a metallic, sweet taste flooded her throat, but she forced herself to swallow it back down.

"This thing... is a bit tricky," Ji Chen said, shaking his numb arm, his brows locked in a frown.

A dangerous atmosphere instantly permeated the area, so oppressive it made it hard to breathe.

Ji Chen took a deep breath, forcing himself to calm down.

He looked at the Energy Ball again, his gaze flickering with a thoughtful light.

Suddenly, his pupils contracted sharply, as if he had discovered something incredible...

"Wait..." Ji Chen's brows were tightly knit; the recoil from just now had left his arm aching, but what caught his attention more was that the energy fluctuations of the Energy Ball seemed somewhat familiar.

He closed his eyes, and the ancient Runes he had encountered earlier in the Inheritance Ground flashed rapidly through his mind—those Runes were obscure and difficult to understand, yet they contained powerful energy.

"This energy fluctuation... is quite interesting," Ji Chen thought to himself. He slowly opened his eyes, a glimmer of excitement flashing deep within them.

He extended his hand again, golden light flickering on his palm. This time, he did not attempt direct contact, but instead tentatively tried to capture the energy fluctuations emitted by the Energy Ball.

He was like a thirsty traveler who had finally found a spring, greedily absorbing the energy from his surroundings.

As Ji Chen absorbed it, the oppressive atmosphere around them actually began to slowly dissipate, as if the violent energy of this Energy Ball had found an outlet.

However, the good times did not last.

"Damn it, what is that?" Ceng Yue suddenly exclaimed, breaking the eerie silence.

The Short Blade in her hand had already lit up with a cold glint, her body taut like a fully drawn bow.

Ji Chen looked in the direction of her gaze and saw countless small energy monsters, flickering with faint light, slowly emerging from the ground around the Energy Ball. They drifted like ghosts, charging toward him and Ceng Yue in swarms.

Although these small monsters were not large, they were densely packed, enough to make one's scalp tingle.

Their methods of attack were also very strange; some darted about like ghosts, while others released tiny energy rays that would leave one completely numb if struck.

"Watch out!" Ji Chen shouted in a low voice. His figure flashed, dodging a pounce from a small energy monster, while he simultaneously threw a punch. Golden energy condensed on his fist, and with one strike, he blasted the small energy monster apart.

Ceng Yue did not relax in the slightest. Her movements were agile as she wove through the attacks of the small energy monsters, the Short Blade in her hand dancing up and down, taking out several small energy monsters with every swing.

However, the number of small monsters was simply too great, and they seemed endless, impossible to kill off completely.

The energy tremors around them grew increasingly intense, and a burnt smell filled the air—the aftermath of the energy collisions.

The tense atmosphere continued to heat up, as if a storm were about to arrive.

"This can't go on." Ji Chen's eyes narrowed. He could feel that Ceng Yue's breathing was becoming erratic; under such high-intensity combat, she was struggling.

"Damn it, how are these little things..." Before he could finish his sentence, a small energy monster appeared behind him like a phantom, its sharp energy fluctuations stinging his back.

Ji Chen spun around violently, a whip kick exploding that small monster.

He frowned, looking at the dense swarm of small energy monsters before him, his mind racing for a countermeasure.

Suddenly, he glanced over and saw that Ceng Yue's movements were becoming sluggish as she dodged the attacks, and fine beads of sweat had seeped onto her face.

Ji Chen's eyes sharpened; he lunged forward and grabbed Ceng Yue's hand...

Ji Chen grabbed Ceng Yue's hand, and a warm force instantly traveled from his palm into her body.

Ceng Yue felt this power and was instantly invigorated; the energy surging within her seemed to have received a fresh replenishment.

"Let's combine our attacks!" Ji Chen commanded in a low voice. He gripped Ceng Yue's hand tightly, and their Supernatural Abilities intertwined, like two torrents merging into one great flood. Golden and silver light wove together, forming a dazzling radiance.

"Okay!" Ceng Yue nodded in response. With perfect tacit understanding, the two leaped forward simultaneously, the energy in their hands condensing into a beam of light that, like an indestructible Light Sword, smashed fiercely into the dense swarm of small energy monsters.

Instantly, a powerful light erupted, as dazzling as the sun, illuminating everything around them like broad daylight.

As the light faded, those small energy monsters turned into ash one after another, disappearing without a trace.

A victorious smile appeared on Ji Chen's face, his eyes flashing with confidence and determination.

The dangerous atmosphere around them gradually weakened, and the oppressive feeling finally eased.

The two stood where they were, sensing the changes in their surroundings, the tension and exhaustion in their hearts also easing at this moment.

Just then, they noticed a mysterious entrance had suddenly appeared on the Energy Ball, emitting an unknown light as if leading to another world.

The light carried a hint of mysterious attraction, making one want to approach it involuntarily.

Ji Chen and Ceng Yue looked at each other, their eyes flashing with determination and resolve.

They took a deep breath, gripped each other's hands, and slowly walked toward that mysterious entrance...

"Let's go, the truth is inside," Ji Chen said in a low voice, his tone carrying a hint of unquestionable firmness.
