Chapter 221: Return to the Real World

~7 min read 1,390 words

After the intense light, a dizzying sensation of the world spinning around hit.

Ji Chen felt as if he had been stuffed into a tumble dryer, tossed back and forth, his internal organs all churned into a ball.

He held Ceng Yue tightly; the sound of wind whistled in his ears, and before his eyes was a vast expanse of white, unable to see anything clearly.

"Damn it, what's the situation?" Ji Chen couldn't help but curse; this method of teleportation was too unreliable, even bumpier than the green-skinned trains he used to ride.

It was unknown how much time had passed when the rolling sensation finally stopped. "Ugh—"

Before Ji Chen could even feel relieved, he heard a sound of retching coming from beside him.

He hurriedly steadied Ceng Yue and patted her back lightly: "Are you okay?"

Ceng Yue's face was pale; she waved her hand, signaling that she was fine.

The surrounding scene gradually became clear, but the sight that met their eyes made them freeze instantly.

The once-prosperous city was now devastated.

High-rise buildings had collapsed, the streets were covered in cracks and rubble, and the air was filled with choking dust.

The once-bustling crowds had now turned into panicked refugees; cries and screams rose one after another.

"This... what is going on?" Ceng Yue's voice carried a hint of trembling; she looked at everything before her in disbelief, as if she were in a nightmare.

As cold and detached as she was, her eyes were now filled with shock and sorrow.

Ji Chen's brows were tightly locked, and a strong sense of unease surged in his heart.

The Inheritance Ground had collapsed, and the real world had also undergone a massive change; there must be some connection between the two.

"Could it be..." He looked sharply at Ceng Yue, a terrifying thought flashing through his mind.

"We need to find a safe place first." Ji Chen pulled Ceng Yue's hand, his tone firm, "Let's leave here first." He felt an invisible pressure enveloping them, as if something were watching them from the shadows.

The two carefully wove through the ruins; the surrounding scene was like a doomsday movie, so oppressive it made it hard to breathe.

Suddenly, Ji Chen stopped in his tracks; he felt an unusual energy wave coming from not far away.

He turned his head to look at Ceng Yue.

Ceng Yue also sensed the anomaly; she gripped the weapon in her hand and watched the surroundings vigilantly.

"Who is it?!" Ji Chen shouted in a deep voice.

A burst of cold, sinister laughter came from the ruins, "Hehehe... long time no see, Ji Chen..." The cold laughter echoed in the ruins, like countless ghost claws scratching at the eardrums, making one's scalp tingle.

Ji Chen's brows furrowed even tighter; he had definitely never heard this voice, but that sinister vibe made his whole body uncomfortable, as disgusting as if he had swallowed a fly.

"Who the hell is playing god?" Ji Chen let out a low roar, simultaneously activating his perception, attempting to lock onto the source of the sound.

However, this Dark Power was as slippery as a loach, impossible to capture.

He felt his ability being suppressed, as if wrapped in cotton, with strength but nowhere to use it.

Ceng Yue also entered combat mode; a faint blue light rose around her body, the mark of her controlling her Ice Ability.

She scanned the surroundings coldly, like a leopard ready to pounce.

In the surrounding ruins, black mist began to surge, as if it had a life of its own, constantly twisting and spreading, as if to Devour everything.

Ji Chen could feel that this Dark Power contained extreme malice, making one's hair stand on end.

He couldn't help but curse: "Fuck, what is this? A Resident Evil set?"

He attempted to convert the supernatural energy he had absorbed into the Light Attribute, hoping to disperse these black mists.

He took a deep breath, and a powerful light burst forth from his body, like a small sun, illuminating the surrounding ruins.

Under the illumination of the light, those black mists emitted a "sizzle" sound of corrosion and began to dissipate slowly.

The survivors nearby saw this beam of light, and their previously desperate faces revealed a glimmer of hope; they looked up at Ji Chen as if they had seen a savior.

Ji Chen could feel their expectant gazes, which made his determination to protect this city even firmer.

Ji Chen injected more energy into the light; he felt the energy within his body like a rushing river, surging toward his limbs and bones.

The light became even more dazzling, the surrounding black mist gradually dissipated, and the air began to turn fresh.

"Looks like I have to step in personally." Ji Chen's mouth curled up slightly, revealing a confident smile.

He turned his head and said to Ceng Yue, "Yueyue, next you..."

"Careful!" Ceng Yue suddenly issued a warning, and the ice she had condensed in her hand had already whistled out.

"Holy shit, they come in groups?" Ji Chen looked at those black mists acting like they were on stimulants, surging crazily and transforming into various bizarre monsters, baring fangs and brandishing claws as they pounced toward him, and couldn't help but complain.

Some looked like giant bats, their flapping wings carrying a fishy, rotten stench; some looked like ferocious giant pythons, flicking their tongues and making hissing, strange sounds; others looked like terrifying skeletons, with ghostly green light flickering in their hollow eye sockets, making one's hair stand on end.

The attacks of these Dark Powers were exceptionally fierce, carrying strong corrosiveness; upon touching the ground, they immediately emitted bursts of black smoke and made "sizzle" sounds.

Ji Chen dared not be careless; he pushed his own Light Attribute Supernatural Ability to the limit, and beams of light shot out like sharp swords, colliding with those monsters and emitting deafening explosions.

Ceng Yue was not idle either; the Ice Power around her body condensed into countless Ice Spikes, pouring out like a rainstorm, colliding fiercely with those monsters and instantly freezing them into ice sculptures.

But those Dark Powers seemed endless; after being shattered, they quickly reorganized, making them impossible to guard against.

The aftermath of the battle swept through the surroundings like a hurricane, gravel and rubble flew everywhere, and the air was filled with a pungent burnt smell and cold Cold Qi.

Ji Chen and Ceng Yue stood back-to-back; every one of their attacks carried powerful Energy Waves, causing the surrounding air to distort.

"Yueyue, watch out!" Ji Chen roared, pulling Ceng Yue behind him; a black claw grazed Ceng Yue's cheek, leaving a shallow bloodstain on her face.

Ceng Yue was slightly stunned; looking at Ji Chen blocking in front of her, a hint of tenderness flashed deep in her eyes, and her movements became even sharper, the Ice Spikes acting like sharp blades, precisely harvesting the lives of those monsters.

Sensing that Ceng Yue's combat power had increased, Ji Chen's mouth curled up slightly; he held Ceng Yue's hand tightly, and a warm energy surged into her body, making her feel more confident.

Ceng Yue felt the power coming from Ji Chen's palm, and an inexplicable sense of security surged in her heart; she looked up at Ji Chen.

The coordination between Ji Chen and Ceng Yue became increasingly tacit; every one of their attacks carried world-destroying power, and those Dark Powers were beaten back step by step, beginning to show signs of collapse.

Just as Ji Chen was preparing to press the attack, suddenly, he felt an even more terrifying aura condensing.

Those originally scattered black mists, as if controlled by an invisible hand, gathered crazily together, forming a huge Black Vortex, from which came bursts of hair-raising roars.

A huge figure slowly emerged from the vortex; it had a ferocious face, hollow eyes, and emitted a suffocating pressure from its body.

This demon god, condensed from Dark Power, seemed like an evil ghost from the Abyss of hell, making one feel incomparable fear and despair.

Ji Chen gripped Ceng Yue's hand tightly, his palms turning slightly white from the excessive force.

"This... this is..." Ceng Yue's face turned pale, her pupils contracting violently as she looked up at Ji Chen.
