Chapter 284: Distorted space

~6 min read 1,083 words

Space distorted, as if kneaded by an invisible giant hand, emitting a tooth-aching "creaking" sound.

Ji Chen only felt a dizzying spin, Ceng Yue's originally tightly gripped hand seeming to become slippery, almost unable to hold on.

He gritted his teeth, knuckles turning white, using all his strength to pull her hand, fearing that a slight carelessness would tear them apart in this ghost place.

"Hold on to me!" Ji Chen roared, his voice torn apart by the distorted space.

Ceng Yue's face was also frighteningly white, but she didn't speak, just gripped Ji Chen's hand back, her eyes showing determination.

The two were rolled into the chaotic energy flow, like socks in a washing machine, being madly spun dry.

Their bodies shook uncontrollably, everything around them becoming blurry, only the temperature and power conveyed by their tightly gripped hands remaining.

"Holy crap, what the hell is this place!" Ji Chen couldn't help but curse, feeling his internal organs about to be thrown out.

Space cracks, like ferocious giant mouths, bared fangs and brandished claws in the distorted space, surging with powerful suction, as if wanting to swallow everything.

Ji Chen felt his power being drawn away bit by bit, like a phone battery dropping from 100% to 1%; that sense of powerlessness filled his heart with fear.

The oppressive atmosphere surged like a tide, almost wanting to drown them.

"Am I going to die..." a thought flashed through Ji Chen's mind.

He glanced at Ceng Yue beside him; she had her eyes closed tightly, brows locked, her face pale as paper.

No! He couldn't die! He still had to protect Ceng Yue!

Just then, a flash of inspiration crossed Ji Chen's mind... "Wait..."

"Wait..." Ji Chen suddenly thought of something; a certain power within his body began to stir, like a volcano about to erupt.

This feeling was like when he first awakened his ability, full of unknown excitement and anticipation.

He took a deep breath, forcing himself to calm down.

The chaotic space energy was like a wild horse off the reins, crashing around, impacting his body, but he felt a strange sense of familiarity.

He tried to mobilize that special power within his body, slowly, cautiously, to touch and guide the violent energy around him.

A miracle happened!

Those originally violent energies, as if meeting a nemesis, gradually became docile, as if tamed by an invisible giant hand.

They began to rotate around Ji Chen, forming a strange energy vortex, emitting a soft glow.

The distortion of space also gradually calmed down, like wrinkles ironed out by an iron, returning to calm.

"Phew..." Ji Chen let out a long breath, feeling his body much lighter.

He looked down at his tightly gripped hands, feeling the abundant power within his body, a confident smile appearing at the corner of his mouth.

"Looks like this time, I'll have to rely on my European Emperor constitution to get through the difficulty."

However, before he could be happy for too long, a sudden change occurred.

The originally calmed space shook again, only this time the shaking was no longer chaotic and disorderly, but rhythmic, like the beating of a heart.

Immediately after, strange creatures appeared in space.

They were in various forms, some like giant octopuses, waving long tentacles; some like lizards with wings, emitting sharp cries; and some like floating mists, constantly changing shapes.

These creatures emitted powerful energy fluctuations, pairs of scarlet eyes staring fixedly at Ji Chen and Ceng Yue, full of hostility.

"Holy crap, what the hell are these things?" Ji Chen couldn't help but curse, feeling his scalp tingle.

The originally relaxed atmosphere instantly disappeared, replaced by thick oppression and tension.

He subconsciously shielded Ceng Yue behind him, vigilantly watching these uninvited guests, secretly thinking: "Looks like this time, the trouble is big..."

"They... what are they?" Ceng Yue's voice trembled slightly, breaking the tense silence.

Ji Chen didn't answer, just gripped her hand tightly, his gaze like a torch.

Ceng Yue leaned toward Ji Chen; in this chaotic space, she was so fragile, as if ready to be torn apart at any moment.

Ji Chen gently hugged her, giving her power and security, as if this hug could dispel all fear.

"Don't be afraid, I'm here." He said softly, his voice carrying firmness and warmth.

The space creatures began to launch attacks.

They either waved long tentacles, or emitted sharp cries, or turned into invisible mists, rushing toward Ji Chen and Ceng Yue.

Ji Chen reacted quickly, that special power within his body surging; his hands glowed with soft light, and with one punch, the surrounding air seemed to be torn apart, the powerful energy wave instantly knocking several creatures flying.

"Holy crap, these things are really hard to deal with!" Ji Chen cursed; although one punch knocked back several creatures, more enemies kept surging in, as if there were no end.

Ceng Yue was not to be outdone, light flickering in her hands, a sword sweep cutting several creatures into two.

However, these creatures seemed endless, the battle falling into a stalemate, Ji Chen and Ceng Yue somewhat unable to cope.

Just then, Ji Chen suddenly had a flash of inspiration.

He noticed that between these creatures were threads of energy as thin as hair, as if they were their lifeblood.

His heart moved, deciding to try attacking these connection points.

He concentrated his power, palms gathering energy, striking with force; the energy connection was instantly broken, several creatures instantly losing coordination, falling one after another.

"Found the weakness!" Ji Chen shouted, and Ceng Yue also understood, the two cooperating tacitly, constantly attacking those energy connection points.

The space creatures fell into chaos, gradually retreating.

Finally, they disappeared into the space cracks amidst roars, leaving only a messy battlefield.

"Phew..." Ji Chen let out a long breath, but his vigilance didn't relax.

He knew this was just a beginning, and greater danger was still ahead.

He gripped Ceng Yue's hand tightly, looking into the distance with firm eyes.

"Next, where should we go?" Ceng Yue asked softly, a trace of anticipation and unease revealing in her eyes.

Just then, a faint light suddenly appeared in space, as if it were a door to the unknown, vaguely revealing the outline of a mysterious relic.

Ji Chen's heart raced; he gently patted Ceng Yue's shoulder and said firmly: "Go, let's see what's behind that door."

The two smiled at each other and firmly stepped forward. ===== CHAPTER 285 =====
