Chapter 35: Breaking the Mystery

~6 min read 1,155 words

Ji Chen and Ceng Yue stood before the black beast-like building, feeling like two tiny ants.

They looked up, their necks almost bent at a ninety-degree angle, to barely glimpse the outline of the building's top.

This thing—calling it a building was less accurate than calling it a prehistoric black beast fossil, emitting a powerful aura of "keep out."

The two looked at each other, both seeing the same awe and curiosity in the other's eyes.

This place was definitely not simple!

They stepped into the interior of the building cautiously, as if breaking into the territory of a sleeping giant.

The air instantly became viscous, as if a slow-motion button had been pressed; every step felt like stepping into a mud swamp, making it hard to breathe.

The surroundings were eerily quiet, with only the sound of their somewhat rapid breathing left; this silence made it even more hair-raising.

An ancient and powerful force surged in the building, like a dormant beast, ready to choose someone to devour at any moment.

"Be careful, something's wrong with this place." Ji Chen lowered his voice to remind her.

Ceng Yue nodded slightly, her cold eyes scanning the surroundings like the most precise radar, not letting go of any abnormality.

"Click!"

Just as the two stepped into the depths of the building, a crisp sound of a mechanism being activated broke the eerie calm.

Immediately after, countless sharp arrows shot out from all directions, like a rain of pears, so dense it made one's scalp tingle.

"Holy crap!" Ji Chen couldn't help but curse; this was simply a death start!

He hurriedly mobilized his supernatural ability to create a solid Energy Shield in front of him.

Ceng Yue was not idle either; her slender fingers flew, and layers of Frost Barriers were added to the outer layer of the shield, trying to block this dense rain of arrows.

Both of their expressions became tense; the power of this mechanism far exceeded their expectations. The arrows hit the shield like raindrops, emitting "ding-ding-dang-dang" crisp sounds, shaking Ji Chen's arms until they were numb.

Even more terrifying was that the density of the arrow rain was still increasing, and the light of the shield began to totter, emitting a groan of being unable to bear the load.

Ceng Yue's eyes narrowed, and she was about to strike again to reinforce the defense, when she heard Ji Chen's somewhat urgent voice, "Ceng Yue, don't move yet, I'll..."

Before Ji Chen's words fell, Ceng Yue's supernatural ability consumption reached its limit.

Her body began to sway, her face bloodless, and a hint of exhaustion appeared in her cold gaze.

Ji Chen looked at her nervously, clearly feeling her sense of powerlessness.

At the same time, the density of the arrow rain was still increasing, and the light of the shield had become weak, as if it might shatter at any moment.

"Ceng Yue, hold on!" Ji Chen roared, his voice carrying unquestionable firmness.

He gripped his hands tightly, cold sweat seeping from his forehead, and the light of the shield flickered continuously on his body.

However, even so, he felt unprecedented pressure; the attack power of the arrow rain almost suffocated him.

"Ji Chen, we... might not be able to hold on." Ceng Yue's voice was somewhat weak, but her gaze remained firm.

Her body trembled slightly, and the Frost Barrier gradually dissipated amidst the violent shaking.

Ji Chen's heart sank suddenly; the surrounding pressure made it almost impossible for him to breathe, and an aura of despair permeated the air.

Just then, Ji Chen suddenly made an unexpected decision.

He suddenly dropped the shield, grabbed Ceng Yue's hand, and rushed toward the direction where the arrow rain was densest.

This behavior shocked Ceng Yue greatly; she could hardly believe her eyes.

The atmosphere all around became very mysterious, and an eerie silence permeated the air.

"Are you crazy?" Ceng Yue's voice carried incredulous anger, but Ji Chen didn't answer, only charging forward firmly.

The arrow rain formed an airtight barrier around them, but just as they were about to be submerged, a miracle happened.

The surrounding arrow rain suddenly disappeared without a trace, as if instantly drawn away by some invisible force.

Ji Chen and Ceng Yue were both stunned, looking at each other at a loss, their eyes filled with disbelief.

At this moment, Ji Chen's voice was low and firm: "Sometimes, reverse thinking is the key to breaking the situation..." His words stopped abruptly, and the two's gazes were drawn by a light not far ahead, which seemed to herald new hope.

Ji Chen held Ceng Yue's hand and passed through the place where the arrow rain had disappeared; the scene before them suddenly opened up.

A huge room appeared before them, resplendent and magnificent, blinding their titanium alloy dog eyes.

"Holy crap! Are you sure this isn't a rich guy's treasure vault?" Ji Chen couldn't help but curse; this change in style was too fast!

The room was piled with all kinds of rare treasures, emitting colorful light, and a powerful supernatural aura rushed toward them, so thick it almost condensed into substance.

Any one of these treasures, if taken out, could cause a bloody storm in the Supernatural World.

Ceng Yue's usually calm face also revealed surprise, and a hint of excitement flashed in her cold eyes.

This wave was simply a huge profit!

"Pick and choose, take whatever you want!" Ji Chen waved his hand, with the posture of a nouveau riche.

The two were like two happy marmots, "treasure hunting" to their hearts' content in the treasure mountain.

Ji Chen found a dagger emitting black light; it was cold to the touch and extremely sharp—it looked like a great killing weapon at first glance.

He chuckled; this thing was simply tailor-made for him!

He picked up a Jade Pendant emitting a soft light and handed it to Ceng Yue, "This one, for you."

Ceng Yue took the Jade Pendant; it was warm to the touch, and a warm current surged into her body, restoring some ruddiness to her originally pale face.

"Thanks."

The two smiled at each other; in this mysterious building full of crises, this moment of warmth seemed especially precious.

However, good times didn't last long.

Just as they were immersed in the joy of the harvest, the room suddenly began to shake violently, and a rumbling sound came from overhead.

"Holy crap, what's the situation!" Ji Chen's face changed, and an ominous premonition rose in his heart.

A huge Stone Gate descended from the sky, slowly falling, trapping them in this room.

At the same time, some strange runes appeared on the surrounding walls, flickering with eerie light.

"This..." Ceng Yue looked at the slowly falling Stone Gate and the flickering runes, a hint of solemnity flashing in her eyes, "We seem to have... triggered some mechanism..." ===== CHAPTER 36 =====
