Chapter 44: Unexpected
In the room, it was piled with dense data, like a giant beast wanting to swallow people.
Ji Chen and Ceng Yue, the man and woman standing at the pinnacle of Ability Users, were now frowning, as if pressed by invisible heavy pressure until they couldn't breathe.
A tense atmosphere permeated the air, so quiet that one could hear a needle drop on the ground.
"This information is like a ball of tangled hemp, no head or tail." Ji Chen rubbed his temples, his voice carrying a hint of exhaustion, but the light in his eyes remained firm as iron.
Ceng Yue didn't speak; she just silently flipped through the documents in her hand, her cold, slender fingers sliding across the paper as if looking for some hidden clue. She knew very well that behind these seemingly messy information fragments hid a shocking conspiracy; one slight mistake, and they would be doomed.
They knew well that this hidden force was by no means an ordinary one; if they followed conventional thinking and went head-to-head, it would undoubtedly be like a sheep entering a tiger's mouth.
"Holy crap, these grandsons have blocked all the roads!" Ji Chen couldn't help but curse; he, who was usually steady, was now somewhat anxious, as if a beast trapped in a cage.
He stood up and paced back and forth, as if wanting to tear this oppressive atmosphere to pieces.
"Frontal breakthrough, no chance!" Ceng Yue's voice remained cold, but her tone carried a hint of unquestionable determination.
Pressure surged like a tide; Ji Chen felt as if he were in the deep sea, pitch black all around, and the sense of suffocation made it hard for him to breathe.
He took a deep breath, forcing himself to calm down; it was time to change his thinking.
"Can't follow their routine anymore." Ji Chen's
"Must do the opposite!" He stopped suddenly, his eyes like sharp swords, piercing straight ahead.
Ceng Yue raised her head, a hint of doubt flashing in her cold eyes.
"Don't they think we will definitely break through from the front?" Ji Chen curled his mouth slightly, sketching a meaningful smile.
"Then we just won't!" His voice wasn't loud, but it carried a kind of inexplicable confidence.
"How to do the opposite?" Ceng Yue rarely asked a question.
"Wait and see the good show." Ji Chen smiled mysteriously; he picked up a seemingly inconspicuous document on the table, on which a symbol was particularly eye-catching. He seemed to have made up his mind, his tone firm and full of determination.
"We..." Ji Chen stopped suddenly; he looked out the window, seemingly having something to say, but stopped, ending abruptly.
"We're playing big!" Ji Chen's eyes flashed with sharp light, his tone carrying a hint of madness.
He slammed the document in his hand onto the table, emitting a muffled sound, as if announcing the arrival of some decision.
Ceng Yue raised her eyebrows slightly, and a crack actually appeared on her ten-thousand-year ice-mountain face. What kind of nonsense was this man going to do again?
Although puzzled, she didn't ask much, only watching Ji Chen quietly, waiting for his explanation.
She understood Ji Chen; this man could always be unexpected, bringing surprises, or rather, shocks.
"The mantis stalks the cicada, unaware of the oriole behind." Ji Chen curled his mouth into an evil, charming smile, "They think they control the overall situation, unaware that we are the true hunters." He walked to the window, overlooking the brightly lit city, light controlling everything flickering in his eyes.
Ji Chen's plan was very simple, yet bold to the extreme—do the opposite, and use their own strategy against them.
Use the enemy's arrogant psychology, deliberately release some fake news, let them mistakenly think they have controlled the situation, thereby relaxing their vigilance and revealing flaws.
Over the next few days, Ji Chen and Ceng Yue acted according to the plan, laying out in the dark, leading the enemy into the trap without moving a muscle.
They were like two experienced hunters, waiting quietly in the dark for the prey to take the bait.
The enemy really took the bait; they were complacent, thinking they had victory in their hands, and began to fight among themselves, competing for benefits.
Watching the enemy fall into chaos, Ji Chen felt full of pleasure; this feeling was even cooler than defeating them directly.
"Done!" Ji Chen couldn't help but snap his fingers, his face filled with a victorious smile.
Even Ceng Yue, who was usually cold as frost, now rarely revealed a smile; this smile, although shallow, was like ice and snow melting, spring flowers blooming, amazing the entire room.
The situation gradually turned around, and the balance of victory began to tilt toward Ji Chen and Ceng Yue.
Just when they thought everything was under control, a powerful energy fluctuation suddenly appeared, breaking this brief calm.
"Not good!" Ji Chen's face changed drastically, a strong sense of unease surging in his heart...
This sudden change made Ji Chen and Ceng Yue's hearts tighten.
"Damn it, playing dirty!" Ji Chen spat, and before the words fell, violent energy poured out like a burst dam, instantly submerging the two.
With a "Boom!" loud bang, the entire room shook violently, as if it would collapse in the next second.
Amidst the flying dust, several black shadows flashed like ghosts, carrying sharp killing intent, pouncing toward Ji Chen and Ceng Yue.
"Looking for death!"
Ceng Yue snorted coldly, her figure flashed, meeting them like a bolt of lightning.
"Bang, bang, bang!"
Fists and feet collided, emitting bursts of muffled sounds, energy shockwaves raging, shaking the surrounding walls until they cracked.
Ji Chen did not fall behind; his figure was like a swimming dragon, shuttling between enemies, every strike carrying the momentum of thunder.
The number of enemies was large, and they cooperated tacitly, attacks coming wave after wave, like a tide, continuous.
"Interesting."
Ji Chen curled his mouth into a cold smile, his eyes burning with fighting spirit.
He turned on all his supernatural abilities, light surrounding his body, like a god descending to earth, majestic.
"Whoosh!"
A black shadow suddenly killed from the side, straight for Ceng Yue's back. "Be careful!"
Ji Chen shouted, disregarding his own safety, flying to block in front of Ceng Yue. "Pfft!"
The sound of a sharp blade piercing flesh; Ji Chen groaned, a mouthful of blood spraying out.
"Ji Chen!"
Ceng Yue's face changed drastically; she had never seen Ji Chen injured, nor had she ever thought he would block a blade for her.
A strong anger and love surged from the bottom of her heart like a volcanic eruption.
"You all must die!"
Ceng Yue's voice was cold and biting, carrying thick killing intent.
She erupted with unprecedented power, a dazzling light condensing in her hand, like the scythe of death, instantly swallowing the surrounding enemies.
"Ah, ah, ah!"
The shrill screams rang through the sky, blood flying, staining the ground red.
Under Ceng Yue's crazy attack, the enemy's offensive weakened significantly, retreating steadily.
"Just this little ability?"
Ceng Yue sneered, bloodthirsty light flickering in her eyes.
"Hehe, don't be happy too early."
A cold voice came from the darkness, "The good show has only just begun." "Still have a backup plan?"
Ji Chen clutched his wound, his face solemn.
The enemy did not appear, only leaving a meaningful sentence before disappearing without a trace.
"Next, is the true challenge." ===== CHAPTER 45 =====
