Chapter 59: Heavy Fog

~7 min read 1,342 words

Ji Chen and Ceng Yue stood frozen in place, like a movie pressed on pause, the surrounding fog also seemingly stopping its rolling, eerily quiet.

The two looked at each other.

"Where's the signal? Where's my signal?" Ji Chen scratched his head, looking unwilling, feeling like a player being toyed with by a game program. "This is simply playing tricks on me, right?"

Ceng Yue frowned tightly, her gaze scanning the surroundings like an X-ray, trying to find clues.

Her cold voice broke the deathly silence. "The signal... is not here."

The two stopped speaking, but the doubt and unwillingness in their eyes grew more intense, like two burning flames.

The surroundings were so quiet that one could hear a pin drop; this silence instead made their hearts sink to the bottom.

"No, can't just let it go like this, must find the reason!" Ji Chen gritted his teeth, clenching his fists unwillingly, his knuckles emitting "clack-clack" sounds.

The two began to search in this area where the signal had disappeared, like two detectives solving a puzzle.

Soon, they discovered some strange traces—runes carved into the ground with some kind of energy, twisted and ancient, radiating an ominous aura.

"This thing... doesn't look right." Ji Chen crouched down, touching the runes lightly with his hand; they were cold to the touch, like touching a block of thousand-year-old ice. "I have a feeling it's a trap set by some guy."

Ceng Yue didn't speak, just nodding, agreeing with Ji Chen's view.

She felt a hint of unease in her heart, but years of battle experience kept her vigilant.

However, they still underestimated the enemy's cunning.

When they followed the guidance of the runes into what appeared to be the central area, the surrounding environment changed instantly, as if switching from a quiet village to a violent battlefield.

"Holy crap! What's the situation?" Ji Chen cursed, feeling the surrounding temperature drop sharply, the air filled with thick hostility.

They saw a large number of enemies surging from all around, each radiating powerful supernatural energy fluctuations, like moving energy bombs.

These people were far more powerful than the phantom creatures they had encountered before, directly adjusting the difficulty from simple mode to hell mode.

They were surrounded.

Ji Chen and Ceng Yue's hearts shook—shock, tension, and a hint of excitement, various emotions intertwined.

"Interesting." Ji Chen licked his lips, a playful smile curling on his lips. "Looks like this time, the opponents have some background."

He was just about to say something when he was interrupted by Ceng Yue's cold tone: "They are very strong."

As soon as the words fell, an enemy directly raised his hand...

A dazzling beam of light, like lightning tearing through the night sky, headed straight for Ji Chen.

The speed was so fast that the air emitted a sharp whistling sound.

"Damn, they're playing for real!" Ji Chen let out a strange cry, his body instantly vanishing from where he stood. When he reappeared, he was already beside Ceng Yue, grabbing her and narrowly dodging the attack.

"Boom!" The beam hit the building behind them, instantly blasting a massive crater, the splashing rubble falling like raindrops, clattering around them.

"This attack power, it's got something to it!" Ji Chen couldn't help but whistle; this wasn't coming to catch someone, it was a demolition team!

The enemies' attacks came wave after wave, pouring down like a fierce storm.

Various supernatural abilities, like colorful fireworks, bloomed on this battlefield shrouded in fog.

Ice spikes, fireballs, lightning, wind blades...

Dazzling to the eyes.

Ji Chen and Ceng Yue were like a small boat in a raging sea, dodging left and right, exhausted.

"Damn it, can't go on like this!" Ji Chen wiped the dust from his face, feeling his supernatural energy being consumed heavily.

There were several wounds on his body, stinging with pain.

Ceng Yue's situation was no better; on her eternally unchanging ice-mountain face, a hint of solemnity appeared.

Her clothes were torn in several places, revealing fair skin, on which there were also some small wounds, seeping blood.

The surrounding environment had been destroyed beyond recognition, buildings collapsed, the ground cracked, and the air was filled with the smell of dust and gunpowder, suffocating.

"Fight!" Ji Chen roared, just about to go all out, when he suddenly stopped, his eyes becoming deep and mysterious.

"Wait, let's go this way!"

He pointed toward the very center of the encirclement, his tone firm and unquestionable.

"What?" Ceng Yue was stunned for a moment, clearly not expecting Ji Chen to make such a decision.

According to common sense, they should be thinking of a way to break out, not walking toward the center of the encirclement; wasn't this walking right into a trap?

The enemies were also stunned, looking at each other; could these two have some kind of conspiracy?

Could there be some kind of trap in the center of the encirclement?

"Go!" Ji Chen didn't explain, pulling Ceng Yue's hand and rushing toward the center of the encirclement.

"Kid, are you crazy?" an enemy couldn't help but shout. "That place is..."

"I know." Ji Chen's lips curled into a bizarre smile. "Precisely because I know, I want to go there."

He looked back at those terrified enemies, a hint of cunning flashing in his eyes. "Are you afraid?"

Ji Chen pulled Ceng Yue and rushed toward the center of the encirclement, where a black stone pillar radiating bizarre light stood.

The energy fluctuations around the stone pillar were abnormally intense, like a massive vortex, ready to devour everything.

"It's this!" Ji Chen let go of Ceng Yue's hand and walked straight toward the black stone pillar.

"Ji Chen, be careful!" Ceng Yue felt a bad premonition rise in her heart, wanting to stop him, but was stopped by him.

"Trust me!" Ji Chen gave her a confident smile, then resolutely pressed his hand onto the black stone pillar.

In an instant, the light on the stone pillar flared, and a powerful energy poured into Ji Chen's body.

He felt his body seemingly about to be torn apart, the intense pain making him groan.

"Ah!" The surrounding enemies saw this scene and were all stunned.

They never expected Ji Chen to dare touch the black stone pillar; this was their carefully laid trap!

However, even more shocking things were yet to come.

Ji Chen's body was gradually enveloped by light, and his aura was constantly climbing.

A powerful pressure radiated from his body, pressing the surrounding enemies until they couldn't breathe.

"This... how is this possible?" The enemies looked at each other.

The light dissipated, and Ji Chen's figure appeared before everyone again.

His clothes were already in tatters, but his eyes were incomparably sharp, like a drawn sword, his edge exposed.

"Now, it's my turn!" Ji Chen sneered, his figure instantly disappearing from the spot.

"Bang, bang, bang!" A series of impact sounds rang out, and the enemies fell one after another, their bodies like ragdolls, easily sent flying by Ji Chen.

"This... this is simply a monster!" The remaining enemies completely collapsed; they turned to flee, only to find they couldn't escape at all.

Ji Chen's speed was astonishing; he moved like a ghost among the enemies, every strike taking a life.

Ceng Yue also joined the battle, the long sword in her hand like a venomous snake, every swing precisely hitting the enemy's vital points.

The two coordinated tacitly, like two sharp blades, cutting the enemies into pieces.

The light of supernatural ability illuminated the entire battlefield, and the enemies' screams followed one after another.

Just when they thought victory was in their grasp, the enemy leader suddenly stood out.

His aura suddenly soared, and a supernatural energy fluctuation never seen before radiated from him.

"Finally going to get serious?" Ji Chen and Ceng Yue looked at each other, a hint of solemnity flashing in their eyes...

"Hehe, this is just the beginning." The enemy leader grinned hideously, his weapon flashing with bizarre light. ===== CHAPTER 60 =====
