Chapter 64: The Redwyne Twins
As soon as these words were spoken, the nobles of The Reach immediately erupted.
"Who do you think you are, daring to challenge our Hobber and Horas?"
"What sheer arrogance. Meryn Trant is a notorious deadbeat in the Kingsguard; do you think that just because you can beat him, you can beat the Redwyne twins?"
"The people of the Riverlands have pathetic combat strength, but they sure are sharp-tongued."
"He is just relying on the favoritism of Ser Loras, betting that a fight won't break out, which is why he is so insolent."
Seeing his new idol being provoked and the Riverlanders being insulted like this, Patrick was instantly enraged:
"Bullshit! Arthur is a man who can kill five or six wild boars; how could he possibly be afraid of two measly Knights? Defeating those two is a piece of cake for Arthur, with zero difficulty whatsoever."
But clearly, this statement sparked a new controversy.
"Look at that, he's started bragging again. Five or six wild boars—is that something a single person can do?"
"Exactly, exactly. A single wild boar is enough to keep a dozen soldiers busy. Claiming one person can kill five or six isn't just lacking common sense; it's treating us like fools."
"Enough." Loras barked, "Speaking like this, do you still have any semblance of being children of noble houses?"
In truth, he did not fully believe Arthur's words either, and he was interested in seeing the man's true strength, but he still had to keep up appearances.
After being scolded by the third son of their liege lord, the crowd from The Reach fell silent, but the indignant expressions on their faces betrayed their inner thoughts.
The Knight of Flowers then turned to Arthur and asked: "Are you truly determined to challenge both brothers at the same time?"
"Yes, force is the best way to make people shut up," Arthur responded.
He then summoned his personal Attendant, Meidan, and told him to retrieve the Great Hammer and the Greatsword Moon-Shuoyue he had left at the inn.
Meidan left quickly, going with Patrick's two Attendants to carry out their master's orders.
After all, two heavy weapons are quite strenuous for one person to carry.
Pretending to ponder for a moment, Loras agreed to this duel.
The battlefield was ready; the fences for the Melee had been mostly constructed and could be used immediately.
The only drawback was that Arthur himself had no armor. Of course, he could beat these twins even without armor.
But when the enthusiastic Knight of Flowers learned that Arthur's armor was still being crafted, he insisted that his Attendant bring his own Plate Armor for Arthur to wear, so as to avoid being cut during the fight.
As it happened, the two were of similar height, and the Plate Armor fit well.
Arthur happily accepted the proposal.
But this drew even more mockery from the nobles of The Reach, because in their eyes, Arthur, who could not even produce a fine suit of Plate Armor, had further confirmed the suspicion that he was all talk.
"Whether I'm bragging or not, I'll let you know in a moment." This was Arthur's verbal response to the mockery.
Of course, the physical response in a moment would be even more brutal and simple.
After an hour's work, Meidan and the others finally brought back Moon-Shuoyue and the Great Hammer.
Arthur, having already put on Loras's fine Plate Armor, picked up one weapon in each hand and walked into the dueling arena.
"You'd better be careful; don't go ruining Ser Loras's Plate Armor. It's not some cheap junk you can afford to pay for."
Before the fight officially began, one of the twins said this.
The other added: "A heavy weapon in each hand—I wonder if you can even move them."
To this, Arthur merely let out a cold snort and lowered his visor.
Strength would make them shut up obediently.
The three stood their ground, ready to begin.
The area by the fence was packed with onlookers.
Besides the nobles of The Reach, many commoners and noble Knights who were nearby to cool off had also come.
The latter had been attracted by the hype of the Tourney, but they would not be able to watch the official matches for another week, and they were currently itching for action.
Any fight would ignite their desire for violence and blood.
Not knowing whether it was the older or younger brother, the one holding a shield in one hand and a hand-and-a-half sword in the other stepped forward, initiating the probe.
The other held a two-handed Greatsword, preparing to flank.
It seemed these two were not entirely without Tactics, Arthur evaluated his opponents.
He held Moon-Shuoyue in his left hand and swung the Hammer with his right, charging straight at the man in front of him.
First, use the Hammer to break his heater shield, then give him a few hard hits with Moon-Shuoyue and the Hammer, force him back temporarily, and then turn to engage the opponent flanking him.
This was Arthur's plan.
After all, he had not yet practiced multitasking to the point where he could use a sword in his left hand and a hammer in his right to engage two enemies.
The situation was not much different from Arthur's assumption; Arthur's monstrous strength and the Hammer instantly shattered the iron-clad heater shield, leaving a large hole in the middle.
Then, Moon-Shuoyue and the opponent's hand-and-a-half sword collided violently, striking a series of sparks.
"Ooh—" This was the onlookers' response to Arthur's one-hit shield break.
Clearly, as they were there for the spectacle, they very much enjoyed such visually striking scenes.
Arthur's strength was already great, and Hobber, who was also wielding his weapon with one hand, was simply no match for him.
The result of the first collision between Moon-Shuoyue and the hand-and-a-half sword was already very satisfying to Arthur.
Because the man in front of him could no longer hold his ground and had to guide his sword to the ground to dissipate the force.
"How can this person's strength be so great?" This was the only thought in Hobber's mind at that moment.
Just as Arthur prepared to press his advantage and expand the fruits of his victory, the attack from behind arrived.
He swung Moon-Shuoyue with his left hand to parry the sword, then shifted his feet and turned half his body so that his Hammer could strike the opponent.
"Die!" Horas roared, putting force into his two-handed Greatsword, seemingly preparing to cleave Arthur in two with this strike.
Two hands against one; I don't believe you can still hold up.
But clearly, Arthur's arm strength exceeded his imagination.
A few breaths passed; Arthur's left hand holding the sword remained motionless, while his right hand swinging the Great Hammer had turned around.
Then he smashed down fiercely.
"Ah!" A sharp pain suddenly shot through Horas's thigh, making him cry out in alarm.
He reckoned that his thigh armor must have been deformed by the hammer.
How could this person's strength be so immense, able to wield with one hand heavy weapons that two ordinary men would struggle to swing nimbly?
Horas hurriedly pulled away, limping back two steps.
But this caused new trouble for his brother.
Arthur swung the Great Hammer and smashed it toward Hobber.
Amidst the gasps of the crowd, this hammer completely shattered the wooden shield and struck Hobber.
Dawn Sword also struck the enemy at the same time; the two violent impacts arriving simultaneously caused Hobber to lose his balance, and he actually fell to the ground all at once.
Then Dawn Sword was held against his neck.
"I surrender, I surrender!"
The fallen Hobber reacted quickly and made the most correct choice.
With only one enemy left, Arthur turned and charged toward him.
After Arthur smashed his Greatsword into a bend with one hammer blow, this man also wittily expressed his intention to surrender.
"You truly are a powerful warrior." Horas expressed his admiration this way.
In just two rounds, Arthur had already defeated the Redwyne twins, which made the two of them, having lifted their visors, flush with embarrassment and feel inferior.
It also made the onlookers cheer with satisfaction, though of course, some felt they hadn't seen enough.
As for the many noble scions of The Reach, their expressions were varied, their complexions extremely colorful.
Even the Knight of Flowers Loras became quiet at this moment, seemingly digesting the scene he had just witnessed.
Arthur was very satisfied with these people's reactions.
He summoned the servant Meidan, had him pack up his weapons, and then walked toward Loras and the others.
