Chapter 50
Hum— rumble—
Over a dozen military off-road vehicles stopped outside Camp 21, heavily surrounding the already riddled courtyard. The first thing the Sozali government soldiers did upon arrival was to help the villagers clear the corpses from the yard and treat the wounded.
The incandescent light in the courtyard stayed on for the entire night.
The next morning, seven bodies were carried out, including two Chinese medical personnel and five civilians. There were also over a dozen wounded personnel, who were placed in tents temporarily set up outside the isolation ward.
The government army brought a few military doctors, but it was far from enough.
The camp was already treating over a hundred Ebola patients, and now that the serum had run out, the patients' conditions were rapidly deteriorating, and over a dozen new wounded needed care.
Wang Yang and Shi Yi had to put their grief on hold and continue to throw themselves into their work.
After all, the lives of these patients were bought with the lives of Xiao Manjie and Lao Jiu; they could not just ignore them.
However, what Shi Yi worried about most was still Zhou Yutong.
Shi Yi had thought about seeking help from the Chinese Embassy and the peacekeeping forces; she even thought of Qin Haobei at one point.
However, since the riots began, traffic and communications had been cut off, and the roads outside the camp were all guarded by Sozali government soldiers; the entire camp was now like an isolated island, unable to contact the outside world.
Helpless, she could only ask the Sozali government army for help, requesting them to assist in rescuing Zhou Yutong.
Yet, while the Sozali government army promised her on the surface that they would do their best to rescue her, when Shi Yi continued to press them for their plan, they wore guarded expressions and refused to speak a word.
Time ticked by, second by second.
Shi Yi felt like an ant on a hot pan, anxious to the extreme, yet she was completely helpless.
On the other side, in a dilapidated hotel in a small city on the northern border of Sozali, the war between three men was still continuing...
"Heh, the one who caused your sister's death wasn't Shi Yi at all, but the Shi family's third daughter, Shi Xi." Su Yichen's face was full of an absurd smile.
As soon as the words fell, Chu Yehan's expression changed abruptly.
"What did you say? You better explain yourself clearly!"
This information exploded in Chu Yehan's mind like a bombshell; he suddenly felt his whole body tremble, as if even the blood in his veins had turned cold.
Shi Heng raised his fist in a fit of rage, about to swing it at Su Yichen's face.
"Shut the hell up!"
Just then, Chu Yehan swung a fist into Shi Heng's face, knocking Shi Heng down to the side with a violent blow.
"You surnamed Shi, what else are you trying to hide from me?!"
Shi Heng took Chu Yehan's punch squarely, and a line of blood slid from the corner of his mouth the next second, yet he couldn't care about the pain on his own face, looking at Chu Yehan almost pleadingly:
"Chu Yehan, don't listen to his nonsense! This pretty boy was dumped by Shi Yi and is feeling resentful, which is why he's saying these insane things!"
The eldest young master of the Shi family was usually so arrogant and spoiled; this was the first time Chu Yehan had seen such an expression on his face.
Chu Yehan gritted his teeth, "Whether his words are true or false, I will judge for myself; I don't need you to teach me!"
Saying this, he turned to Su Yichen and said: "Pretty boy, keep talking, what exactly happened back then?!"
"Heh, what's there to talk about." Su Yichen gave a contemptuous smile: "Don't you know that what the Shi family hates most is their second daughter, Shi Yi? Shi Yi grew up in an orphanage, while their third daughter, Shi Xi, was raised in the palm of their hands. Playing with a lighter at a high-end banquet—such a reckless thing—who do you think would do that?"
Hearing Su Yichen's words, Chu Yehan's face turned pale, inch by inch.
He suddenly realized that for so many years, he had treated Shi Yi as the culprit who killed his sister, hating her every moment; it seemed this hatred had seeped into his marrow and become a constant source of motivation for him to live.
Yet, it was very likely he had hated the wrong person!
"You say the person who started the fire was Shi Xi, but what evidence do you have? What the hell kind of evidence do you have!"
Chu Yehan still refused to admit this terrifying fact.
"Heh, evidence?" Su Yichen smiled somewhat sorrowfully, "July 21, 20XX, at 5:00 PM, wasn't that when the fire happened?"
Chu Yehan nodded; he would never forget this time.
"Do you know what Shi Yi was doing then?" Su Yichen, acting like a madman, opened the diary in his hand, flipped to the second-to-last page, and shoved it in front of Chu Yehan.
"Look closely, that day was my birthday, and Shi Yi was celebrating it with me!"
Chu Yehan's pupils constricted, then his gaze carefully scanned the diary in front of him, seeing that the date written above was indeed "July 21, 20XX," and on the right, the words "Weather: Sunny, Mood: Sunny" were also written. The first paragraph of the entry read, word for word:
—Today is Yichen-ge's birthday. At 5:00 PM, we went to the Japanese restaurant we booked in advance to eat Yichen-ge's favorite Japanese cuisine together, and I even bought him a big cake...
"Boom!"
Chu Yehan only felt a bolt from the blue strike his mind.
He was momentarily unable to accept this incredibly shocking fact.
"Enough, Su Yichen! Didn't you also commit perjury yourself?! Have you forgotten that Xiao Yi was sent to prison by your own hands, you despicable and shameless villain!"
Seeing that the matter had been completely exposed, Shi Heng could no longer endure it and punched Su Yichen hard in the face.
Su Yichen wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth and said through gritted teeth:
"I am a despicable and shameless villain, but there hasn't been a day in all these years that I haven't repented, haven't begged for Shi Yi's forgiveness! But what about you Shi family members? You bullied Xiao Yi endlessly, forcing her to the point where she would rather risk death coming to this rotten place of Sozali than stay in that nightmare of a home!"
"Say that again, who bullied Xiao Yi! You're looking for death!"
Shi Heng had completely lost his reason at this moment, punching Su Yichen in the face again and again, until blood splattered all over Su Yichen's face.
Meanwhile, Chu Yehan knelt on one knee on the ground as if his strength had failed him, his expression blank and his gaze unfocused, like a puppet that had lost its soul.
Seeing this scene, the volunteers hurried forward, pulling Shi Heng away and persuading him in a cacophony of voices:
"President Shi, please don't hit him anymore, someone will die!"
"That's right, this is Sozali; whatever the problem is, please resolve it after you return to the country!"
The black driver also trotted forward, trying to break up the fight in broken English:
"Oh my, oh my, stop fighting! If you beat my guest to death, who will pay me for the ride? I finally managed to land this big order!"
Just then, a volunteer suddenly ran over in a hurry from not far away, an anxious look on their face.
"It's bad, President Shi, we just received internal news that..."
"Camp 21 has been attacked by the Kuba army!"
