Chapter 3

~8 min read 1,544 words

Heaven Dou Empire, Nuoding City.

As Zhexian just stepped into Nuoding City, the hustle and bustle of the city rushed toward him. Shops lined both sides of the street, and the sounds of hawking, laughter, and horse hooves intertwined, forming a lively picture of city life.

"Is this the life of ordinary people?"

"It actually has a unique charm."

His white clothes were whiter than snow, his ink-black hair like a waterfall, and Zhexian spoke indifferently.

He then continued walking into the city, his pace light and composed, every step as if treading on clouds, carrying an innate elegance and detachment.

Passersby turned their heads one after another, their gazes filled with amazement and curiosity. Especially the young women, whose eyes could hardly move away from Zhexian.

His appearance was too outstanding, and his temperament was even more otherworldly, as if he did not belong to this mortal world.

"So handsome! Which family's young master is this? How come I've never seen him before?" a flower-selling girl whispered to her companion, her eyes full of envy and infatuation.

"I don't know. Looking at his attire and temperament, he's probably from some great family," the companion replied in a low voice, her gaze still closely following Zhexian's back.

Zhexian did not care about the surrounding gazes at all; his eyes were calm and deep, as if nothing around him could pique his interest.

His footsteps stopped in front of a barbecue restaurant, and the rich aroma wafting from the shop stirred his appetite.

Walking into the shop, the owner immediately greeted him enthusiastically: "This young master, what would you like to eat? Our shop's barbecue is the best in Nuoding City!"

Zhexian nodded slightly, his gaze sweeping over the menu on the wall, finally resting on the "Soft Bone Rabbit Roasted Meat" column. He pointed lightly at the menu, his voice indifferent: "Bring me a whole roasted rabbit."

The owner quickly agreed and turned to prepare it. Zhexian found a seat by the window and looked through it at the pedestrians coming and going on the street. His expression remained indifferent, as if all of this had nothing to do with him.

Not long after, the whole roasted rabbit was served. The golden rabbit meat was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, with a mouth-watering aroma. Zhexian picked up his chopsticks, gently picked up a piece of rabbit meat, put it into his mouth, and savored it carefully.

The meat was fresh and tender, melting in his mouth, with wisps of soul power circulating on the tip of his tongue, bringing a unique texture.

"The taste is not bad," Zhexian whispered to himself, a hint of satisfaction flashing in his eyes.

Just then, a crisp, girlish voice came from behind him: "Ah!!! You jerk, bunnies are so cute, why do you want to eat it?!"

Zhexian tilted his head slightly, his gaze landing on the little girl in the pink short skirt.

She was no more than six or seven years old, wearing two rabbit ears on her head, her pink, tender cheeks carrying a hint of childishness, but at this moment, she puffed out her cheeks in anger, looking exceptionally cute.

However, when she saw Zhexian's face clearly, those big eyes instantly widened, and the anger on her face vanished in an instant, replaced by an undisguised look of amazement and infatuation.

"You... you... are so handsome," the little girl stammered, unable to speak, her cheeks slightly flushed, her fingers unconsciously twisting the corner of her skirt.

Zhexian smiled faintly, a hint of playfulness in his eyes. He gently put down the chopsticks in his hand, his slender fingers tapping lightly on the tabletop, making a crisp sound.

"Little sister, bunnies are cute, but their meat is also very delicious," his voice flowed like a clear spring, carrying a hint of laziness and indifference, "Would you like to try some too?"

The little girl's face turned even redder. She lowered her head, her voice as thin as a mosquito's: "I... I don't eat bunnies..."

Zhexian chuckled and did not tease her further, instead continuing to savor the whole roasted rabbit on the table. His movements were elegant and composed, as if the surrounding noise had nothing to do with him.

And the little girl stood blankly to the side, her gaze unable to move away from Zhexian.

Soon, the whole roasted rabbit, which was half the size of the table, was almost finished.

Just then, the owner of the barbecue restaurant walked over with a look of apology: "This guest, I'm really sorry. Xiao Wu, this child, usually likes rabbits, and she throws a tantrum when she sees people eating rabbit meat. Please don't mind."

Zhexian nodded slightly, his gaze falling again on the little girl named Xiao Wu. A look of contemplation flashed in his eyes, and then he asked softly: "Her name is Xiao Wu?"

The owner nodded with a smile: "Yes, this child scolds me every time she sees me catching rabbits, hahaha."

Zhexian said nothing more, just smiled lightly.

His gaze lingered on Xiao Wu for a moment, then withdrew, and he continued to focus on the food on the table.

No wonder she doesn't eat rabbits...

It's because she is a rabbit herself...

Seeing that Zhexian no longer paid attention to her, Xiao Wu felt a little disappointed, but she was unwilling to leave just like that.

She bit her lip, gathered her courage, stepped forward, and asked in a low voice: "You... what is your name?"

Zhexian looked up, his gaze calm as he looked at her: "My name is Zhexian."

"Zhexian..." Xiao Wu repeated the name in a low voice.

"In the future, don't go around kicking up a fuss at people's shops; it's only because this owner is easygoing that he won't hold it against you," Zhexian smiled faintly.

A rabbit coming to a rabbit barbecue shop to cause trouble...

Xiao Wu was a little annoyed by his attitude, but she couldn't bear to leave.

She stomped her feet and muttered: "Who told him to catch bunnies and eat bunnies!"

Zhexian did not pay any more attention to her and continued to savor the food on the table. His movements remained elegant and composed, as if everything around him had nothing to do with him.

"Do you want to try some?"

Zhexian picked up a roasted rabbit leg and waved it toward Xiao Wu.

"I don't want to!"

"But it's really delicious, don't you want to try it?"

"Really... uh, I don't eat bunnies!"

"Why?"

"I... I... why would there be a reason! I don't eat it, so I don't eat it!" Xiao Wu said with a flushed face, exasperated.

Zhexian smiled faintly, as if he had found some kind of amusement.

"Don't worry, this isn't rabbit meat."

"Really... it's not bunny meat?" Xiao Wu was stunned.

"Smell it carefully."

As Zhexian spoke, he picked up a piece of roasted meat and brought it to Xiao Wu's mouth.

Looking at Zhexian's handsome face, Xiao Wu subconsciously opened her mouth and took a bite.

The soft texture made her unable to help but narrow her eyes, closing them in enjoyment.

Something this delicious definitely isn't bunny meat!

She remembered her mommy saying that rabbit meat was very unpalatable.

But this is so delicious...

"Mmm, so fragrant~!"

Xiao Wu sighed comfortably.

"So I told you, this isn't bunny meat!"

Zhexian chuckled softly; his ability to bluff others still didn't lose to Huang.

"Then what kind of roasted meat is this exactly?" Xiao Wu asked with wide eyes.

"Pork!"

"Here you go, as an apology, these are two spicy rabbit heads that Uncle is gifting you."

At this moment, the barbecue shop owner placed the grilled rabbit heads on a plate in front of Zhexian.

"Eh? You finished the whole roasted rabbit so quickly? Do you want Uncle to grill another one for you?"

The barbecue shop owner suddenly blurted this out, and the atmosphere instantly became somewhat awkward.

Zhexian turned his head away, feeling a bit guilty.

Being exposed in public is truly an interesting feeling...

Boss...

With this kind of hospitality, you will lose a regular customer!

"Uh... then you two go ahead and eat, call me if it's not enough, haha... haha..."

The barbecue shop owner laughed awkwardly a few times, then left the area.

Zhexian turned his head back.

He discovered that Xiao Wu's eyes were red, with tears welling up in them.

Thinking of how she had just eaten her own kind, she couldn't help but retch.

Watching this innocent little sister being tricked by him into eating her own kind, Zhexian could only hang an awkward smile on his face.

However, as for feeling guilty, there was none.

Anyway, these emotions were useless to him, and he didn't care much about them.

At the very least, compared to this kind of boring kindness, he would rather spend his energy on improving his strength.

Zhexian stood up, tossed down a few Gold Soul Coins, and turned to leave the barbecue shop.

After he left, inside the barbecue shop.

"Waaahhh... I hate eating meat... wooooo..."

From behind came the sound of Xiao Wu crying, filled with deep grievance.
