Chapter 14: Warmth, the Ice Emperor

~7 min read 1,254 words

After successfully coaxing the Ice Emperor onto his own canoe, Shu Yan's plain life in the Far North gained a bit more fun.

The Ice Emperor's personality isn't actually bad; it was only her previous prejudice and dislike of humans that made her treat Shu Yan poorly. In terms of temperament, the two sisters Ice Emperor and Snow Emperor do share some similarities.

Both are aloof, but Snow Emperor is comparatively more rational, viewing things from broader angles; their common trait is that both are a little thick‑headed.

Simply put, they never leave a fallback for themselves; once a decision is made they go all‑out, believing opportunities belong only to the prepared and bold. Those who dare not try and are naturally submissive have only death awaiting them.

The world of the weak has no compassion; compassion is a privilege the strong are granted by the world's rules. Like Shu Yan, they worship the truth that the strong are king and refuse to trust the so‑called charity of the strong.

The three grew increasingly close; the Ice Emperor simply moved into Snow Emperor's palace. Snow Emperor had long become accustomed to the Ice Emperor's "freeloading" and naturally said nothing. Shu Yan had nothing to add. Though the Ice Emperor's tongue is sharp, once she sets her mind on a path she confirms it many times.

In her spare time, she personally instructs Shu Yan on how to control Ultimate Ice and shares some combat experience. Shu Yan, already exceptionally gifted, under the Ice Emperor's guidance gains a deeper understanding of Ultimate Ice and his own martial soul, and gradually masters the Ice Sky Snow Maiden bloodline within him, preventing the bloodline's aura from once again masking his human aura when he returns to the human world and avoiding being treated as a transformed soul‑beast.

……

Time slips silently amid the unchanging scenery of the Far North, making it impossible to tell exactly how long has passed. In this empty world, people's moods seem affected, gradually becoming numb and cold, losing enthusiasm for the outside.

The campfire crackles; under the low temperature of the core circle, ordinary logic says such a fire cannot be lit, but Snow Emperor is unfazed—she merely tweaks the ice‑type elemental energy around the fire, raising the temperature slightly to solve the problem.

Watching the plump snow hare skewered on a branch, sizzling and oily over the fire, the Ice Emperor greedily swallows saliva, grips Shu Yan's sleeve tightly, and mutters, "Watch it, don't let me burn it, or I definitely won't forgive you…"

Snow Emperor's beautiful eyes smile as she watches quietly, feeling a warm current surge in her heart, making her very comfortable.

Shu Yan watches the Ice Emperor, whose saliva almost drips onto his robe, a helpless look flashing in his eyes, skillfully sprinkling various seasonings and saying, "Hold back your saliva, and I must remind you this is the seventh snow hare you've eaten today; at this rate you'll wipe out all the snow hares in the Far North in less than half a year…"

Of course, Shu Yan's words are meant teasingly.

Snow hares, as low‑tier soul beasts, lack combat power but excel at reproduction—a nest yields at least a dozen; even if the Ice Emperor ate herself to death, she could not affect the massive total of the hare population.

The Ice Emperor, slightly proud‑cute, looks up and says:

"It is an honor for these low‑tier soul beasts that I, the Emperor, choose to eat them; normally I wouldn't even glance at such little critters."

Shu Yan perfunctorily nods, then says, "Yes, yes, then I must quickly feed this little ancestor of yours; if this keeps up, not only you won't be full, I might starve to death here."

The Ice Emperor's face shows a hint of irritation; she harshly pinches Shu Yan's arm and snarls,

"Are you trying to twist the facts that I can eat, Shu Yan? I admit your roasted rabbit is delicious, but a warrior may be killed, not humiliated. If I ever touch your food again, I'll go be a dog for Xue Er!"

Shu Yan rubs his arm, which feels as if broken, lets out a light hiss; the Ice Emperor, this little potato, may look frail, but a single punch can pierce an ice mountain—her power, even when deliberately restrained, remains terrifyingly unimaginable.

"Then just eat it, be a dog for Snow Emperor—that's exactly what you want. Who doesn't know the Ice Emperor is a pervert, especially regarding Snow Emperor; there's no lower limit at all." Shu Yan's slightly mocking tone makes veins bulge on the Ice Emperor's pale forehead; she looks at him, a terrifying red light in her eyes, and then lunges at him with claws out.

"If I don't bite you to death today, I'll be disgracing the title of the three great Heavenly Kings of the Far North, you bastard…"

Shu Yan watches the Ice Emperor leap, unable to even touch his neck, and finds it somewhat amusing.

"You should eat more; with those short legs of yours, even if I give you a chair to sit on you still can't reach me, let alone bite me dead."

The Ice Emperor can no longer contain her fury, swings her tiny fists and charges straight forward…

……

After a moment, Shu Yan and the Ice Emperor sit by the campfire, each with a noticeable lump on their heads. The Ice Emperor, looking aggrieved, gnaws the roasted snow hare; tears and oil stains turn her face into a little flower‑patterned mask, yet she ignores it, focusing on the hare in her hands, crisp outside, tender inside.

Snow Emperor lies on a bed of ice formed from condensed frost, propping her head with one hand, the other letting out a lazy yawn; her posture is relaxed, the smile in her beautiful eyes deepens as she watches the two and lightly laughs before speaking:

"Don't mess around in front of me without limits, or you'll certainly earn sharp, towering consequences."

Having said that, Snow Emperor slightly shifts her posture; the long white skirt drapes to the ground, revealing a nearly reflective white calf and her delicate, round jade‑like foot.

The Ice Emperor, busy eating, didn't notice Snow Emperor's allure, but Shu Yan, deep in thought, took in the whole scene.

Snow Emperor's lips curl faintly; her snow‑white, slender fingers lightly curl, and her voice, rarely, carries a hint of seduction.

"What?"

"If you have the guts to look, but not the guts to come up and touch, I'm in a good mood today; who knows, you might actually get away with it."

Shu Yan's expression blanks for a moment, then he snaps back to awareness, a thin layer of cold sweat dampening his back.

Snow Emperor truly is the purest soul in the world; even though her aura is cold and crisp, a mere hint of allure rivals that of human women who specialize in martial soul seduction, and her charm carries an even greater stark contrast; a single glance almost caused Shu Yan, whose mind is steadied by Ultimate Ice, to fall.

Shu Yan dares not imagine the scene if Snow Emperor fully unleashed her charm, but he thinks perhaps no one like her has ever existed, and wonders who will be fortunate enough to enjoy such beauty in the future…
