Chapter 19: Di Shu City, Candied Hawthorns (Tuesday request for follow-up reading, please!!!)
The night in a small city is generally not as lively and prosperous as a giant city like Star Luo City. This small city is named Di Shu City, which is one of the larger cities near the Extreme North Land, with a population estimated to be several hundred thousand. An army of the Heaven Soul Empire is stationed in the city and in the military camp outside the city. This is a layer of protection made to resist the beast tide that may occur at any time.
The three walked on the somewhat cold street. Most of the shops on both sides were already closed, and only a small part had lights on, but that small part of the area in the city was still brightly lit, and the direction the three were heading was exactly there.
The Ice and Snow Dual Emperors were both stunning beauties, attracting the gazes of many people along the way, but fortunately, those people still had some self-awareness and only stole glances without taking any other actions; otherwise, Shu Yan really couldn't guarantee their lives.
What made him slightly uncomfortable was that there were quite a few men looking at him with the same gaze as they looked at the Ice and Snow Dual Emperors. This was like after the dormitory lights were turned off in his previous life, in the dark, a roommate secretly climbed onto your bed, his/her eyes flashing with infatuated light, and then said word by word in your ear:
"Brother/Sister, you smell so good..."
Shu Yan just thought about it and couldn't help but get goosebumps. Good heavens, this could also be considered a kind of alternative special-grade horror...
The Snow Empress didn't say anything, but the Ice Empress was somewhat uncomfortable with these gazes, and obvious disgust flashed in her eyes. The aura around her leaked out slightly, and instantly, everyone around who was stealing glances here seemed to have seen a flood beast at the same time, each of them stiffened on the spot.
The Ice Empress then snorted and continued to walk forward, holding the Snow Empress's hand.
Shu Yan walked in the long-lost human city, and he couldn't help but feel some emotion in his heart.
Having stayed in the Extreme North Land for more than eight months, coming out again felt like a world apart, a rebirth.
Arriving in the city area, the surroundings were obviously much livelier. The Ice Empress was attracted by various human foods at a small stall and looked at Shu Yan with eager eyes. Shu Yan found it somewhat funny. This scorpion of the Ice Empress was actually quite good. Of course, it would be even better if those twisted senses of humor were removed.
The Snow Empress watched Shu Yan follow the Ice Empress wandering between various small stalls and smiled silently. She didn't feel bored, but instead felt full of freshness and fun...
Here, compared to the cold and emptiness of the Extreme North Land, it had a different flavor...
After a spree of indulgence with the Ice Empress, Shu Yan's wallet was still frighteningly full.
Previously in Star Luo City, Xu Jiujiu had completely provided for him, regularly giving him hundreds of thousands of gold soul coins every month to buy some items he liked to decorate the Princess Mansion. But he had always liked simpler decorations, and plus he didn't lack any cultivation resources, so these gold soul coins accumulated more and more. The soul tools sent by the Ice Empress last time also added up to over ten million gold soul coins.
Very simple, one sentence: Brother has plenty of money!
The Snow Empress followed behind the two, but her interest in these human foods was not too great. Just as they were about to walk out of this street, she suddenly stopped in a corner.
Seeing that the Snow Empress didn't follow, Shu Yan turned his head and followed the Snow Empress's gaze, only to find that under the dim lights at the street corner, an old grandmother with a kind face was sitting on a withered yellow recliner. Beside her, two little boys who looked like three or four years old were playing. There were no special items on the small stall in front of the three, only a small pushcart, and on the mold above were many skewers of candied hawthorns, each plump and round, wrapped in crystal-clear sugar syrup.
Seeing the Snow Empress lost in thought, Shu Yan shook his head with a smile, then stepped forward and said softly: "Grandma, how do you sell these candied hawthorns?"
Hearing this, the old grandmother slowly opened her eyes, a smile appeared on her face, and then she said:
"Two copper soul coins a skewer, guaranteed to be both sour and sweet."
Shu Yan smiled, took out six gold soul coins and placed them on the table of the small cart, then took three skewers from it. "It's so late, you should go back and rest early. I see your two grandsons are already tired and sleepy."
The old woman nodded with a smile, looking at the two little guys with kind and gentle eyes. It was hard not to evoke a touch of beautiful nostalgia in one's heart with such a scene.
Shu Yan pushed the six gold soul coins inward, waved his hand, and then left the small stall in the corner with the three skewers of candied hawthorns.
When he arrived at the Snow Empress, she suddenly came back to her senses. Looking at the candied hawthorns Shu Yan sent before her eyes, the Snow Empress hesitated for a moment before reaching out to take them.
The Ice Empress ran back from afar somewhat dissatisfied, but her eyes suddenly lit up when she saw the two skewers of candied hawthorns in Shu Yan's hand, and then she pounced over and snatched them from Shu Yan's hand.
Shu Yan didn't find it strange, but turned his head and couldn't help laughing when he saw the Snow Empress's somewhat clumsy appearance.
The Snow Empress slanted a glance at Shu Yan. Shu Yan hurriedly gathered the expression on his face, then stepped forward to help the Snow Empress gently tear open the thin oil paper wrapped around the candied hawthorns.
"Remember not to swallow it whole, there are pits in the hawthorns inside..."
Shu Yan didn't forget to remind her again at the end.
The Snow Empress rolled a beautiful eye at Shu Yan, then said somewhat helplessly:
"I'm not stupid..."
"Yes, yes, yes, you are the smartest."
Shu Yan said casually, and then didn't say anything more.
The Snow Empress raised her eyebrows as she looked at Shu Yan's back, always feeling that something was not quite right, but after thinking about it, it seemed there was no abnormality, so she simply put it aside for the time being.
The candied hawthorns wrapped in sugar coating entered her mouth, and the Snow Empress's eyes lit up slightly. She loved this kind of food that was sweet with a hint of sourness, and along with it, her mood seemed to be even better.
The Ice Empress's way of eating was not as elegant and calm as the Snow Empress's, but after all, her appearance was there. Overall, in the eyes of those who coveted the Ice Empress's beauty, this couldn't even be considered a shortcoming, but rather an alternative "cuteness".
The accommodation problem at night was also very simple. Shu Yan didn't lack money, so naturally, he found the best hotel in the city and asked for two of the best rooms. Of course, this point was obtained by the Ice Empress begging the Snow Empress. Looking at the provocative and triumphant eyes of the Ice Empress before the door closed, Shu Yan just smiled silently without saying a word. If the Snow Empress could really let her succeed, then what were the previous hundreds of thousands of years? It could only be said that the Ice Empress was still too easy to satisfy. As long as the Snow Empress softened her heart just a little bit, she could give her endless motivation.
Perhaps thinking of returning to Star Luo City soon, Shu Yan felt deep guilt while excited. Xu Jiujiu's face kept flashing before his eyes, disturbing him so much that he couldn't cultivate with peace of mind. He simply lay on the soft bed and started to be lost in thought. Amidst various chaotic thoughts, Shu Yan actually slowly fell asleep, but his brows remained tightly furrowed, clearly still unable to avoid being affected by heavy thoughts in his dreams...
The night was as quiet as water, the cool wind entered the night, and a different kind of longing went south all the way, finally arriving at the mysterious Star Luo City in the night. Under the same stars, two people living in different places and separated by thousands of miles had surprisingly consistent thoughts...
