Chapter 4: Open and Honest
"Why do you say that?"
Xiadie's pace slowed slightly, and her voice was transmitted simultaneously to Yilaikesi in the Spirit Sea.
"My young friend, let me finish watching before we discuss." Yilaikesi's voice paused, "Your power is different from those Soul Master systems, this much I can still see."
"As expected of the Holy Necromancer of the Holy Demon Continent, your insight is truly extraordinary." Reading novels every day is super convenient—ttk. tw makes it easy to browse.
"It seems my young friend knows me quite well!" Yilaikesi, now reduced to only soul fragments, felt an inexplicable sense of familiarity upon hearing the words "Holy Necromancer."
Xiadie's gaze was deep, and she did not immediately answer Yilaikesi's inquiry.
She lightly leapt up, dodging a century-old Mandragora Snake coiled around a tree branch sleeping along the way, and landed on another, more distant tree branch.
"I did not know your situation at first, but after spending time with you, memory told me these things."
Xiadie ultimately did not reveal the origin of that transmigrator's memory.
"Memory? I wonder if my young friend could elaborate."
"I am not a person of this universe." Xiadie's words were startling, "In the universe I come from, walking the Path will enhance one's own strength."
"I was once called the Pathstrider of Memory, and the Emanator of Harmony."
"Memory can represent the past, and can also describe the past of the future."
"As for Harmony…"
Xiadie's voice paused, a wisp of breeze brushed her face, lifting the silver-tinted-purple hair that veiled her eyes, revealing those deep purple pupils.
"It is like a kind of balance among all things."
"For example, life will wither, but after withering, new vitality will also be born from its remains, maintaining the harmony between life and death."
"A way of speaking based on similar concepts? A truly refreshing thesis."
Yilaikesi listened and felt somewhat confused, but with insight far surpassing a single world, he could still capture useful information.
"Exactly." Xiadie nodded, regardless of whether Yilaikesi understood or not.
"Living beings can walk one or even multiple Paths; the farther they walk, the stronger they become, until they ascend to Emanator."
"Above the Path, there is the Emanator."
Xiadie paused briefly in silence, then continued: "At my peak, I could easily crush this planet beneath my feet."
"However, Emanators are not invincible either; even Aeons above Emanators will fall." Xiadie's voice grew slightly low,
"I, who should have perished, why I came to this world, I am still not clear."
"What can be confirmed is that this world, and even the universe here, is vastly different from the universe I come from."
"Even the time I descended upon Douluo Planet was only a few hours earlier than you, Yi Lao."
Xiadie gathered her thoughts, waiting for Yilaikesi to digest the information he had received.
"Then that really is…" Yilaikesi sighed with emotion, but for a moment did not know what to say.
Whether the things Xiadie narrated were true or false, he could faintly make a judgment; even if not entirely true, most should be real.
Regardless, the Xiadie before him differed far too greatly from the peers he had encountered; her Spirit Power and soul intensity were on an entirely different dimension from those few little ones from before.
"Yi Lao, why did you choose me?" Xiadie asked her question; having said so much, the other party would surely answer some things for her as well.
"In the future you saw, was it that Huo Yuhao I chose?" Yilaikesi did not immediately answer Xiadie's question.
Xiadie was silent for a long while, then nodded:
"In the imprint of the future I saw, you became the Child of Luck's teacher, aiding his growth and subtly changing him."
"My young friend, you are truly candid." Yilaikesi's hearty laughter rang out in Xiadie's mind.
"There is no need to conceal." Xiadie gently shook her head,
"A soul fragment was captured by the plane's will and delivered right before the Child of Luck."
"Thinking along these lines, with Yi Lao's experience, you would soon be able to deduce the result as well."
"Speculated results and confirmation are still somewhat different." Yilaikesi chuckled lightly, but did not refute it.
"My young friend, if I were to leave you now and choose Huo Yuhao, what would you do?"
Xiadie thought for a moment, then said: "I would erase your memories related to me; I think I could do it."
"Just as I had guessed! This is also why I chose you." Yilaikesi laughed, "One who wields the power of death, yet can maintain their true heart without being affected by the negative."
"As fellow wielders of the power of death, my perception in this regard is extremely sharp."
"My young friend has also received a world's blessing, which is even more rare and precious."
"Before coming to Douluo Dalu, you must have saved some world, right?"
"A world's blessing, saving a world?" Xiadie's expression momentarily went blank.
The events that occurred in Wengfaluosi flashed through her mind, and it took half a moment before she came back to herself.
"You saw that I am not an utterly evil person, and only then did Yi Lao choose me?"
"It's not wrong to say that." Yilaikesi answered, "People usually seek advantage and avoid harm; I, reduced to only soul fragments, would instinctively do the same."
"What I did not expect was that your origins are so vast, and your soul level is so strong it strikes even me as inconceivable."
"Even the original idea of passing down my mantle had to be set aside." Yilaikesi's voice paused briefly, then continued,
"Could my young friend tell me your plans for the future?"
"Try my best to find a way back." Xiadie pondered briefly, then answered,
"I once lived on a planet called Wengfaluosi; there are my companions, my sister there; no matter what, I will return."
"Perhaps my transmigrating to Douluo Dalu is related to them, one cannot say for certain."
Yilaikesi saw the determined expression on Xiadie's face: "Then let this old man help you; fellow travelers adrift in the world, why must we have known each other before to meet?"
"With your ability, I don't know how much I can help you, but you are currently suppressed in all aspects, so perhaps I can offer some suggestions."
"Then many thanks to Yi Lao." Xiadie transmitted her gratitude.
"No need for courtesy; this old man also wishes to borrow your insight to see how vast the world is." Yilaikesi laughed heartily, "However, this old man still has one question, and hopes my young friend can resolve my doubts."
"Please go ahead, Yi Lao." Xiadie transmitted her voice in invitation.
"What kind of ending would I choose for Huo Yuhao?" Yilaikesi's tone was quite serious.
"This…"
Xiadie fell silent.
"It seems the outcome wasn't good!" There wasn't much surprise in Yilaikesi's tone.
Thinking about it, it made sense — a Child of Luck schemed against by higher-level powers didn't really have much chance of turning the tables.
"Sigh!"
Xiadie let out a breath,
"Without outside interference, Huo Yuhao would have become that god's son-in-law, and you would have perished before Huo Yuhao ascended to the God Realm."
"Yi Lao…"
"No need to comfort me." Yilaikesi smiled. "I didn't choose Huo Yuhao under the guidance of a plane's will. His affairs are connected to that Electrolux, and have nothing to do with me."
"Fate isn't a single choice, and I won't waste my energy brooding over it — there's no need."
Huo Yuhao, what Huo Yuhao?
Teaching a Child of Luck targeted by the gods, exhausting heart and effort and even losing one's life — how could that compare to traveling with like-minded powerhouses and discussing scholarship together?
The former might be a nursemaid; the latter broadens one's own horizons.
As for a Child of Luck, in the eyes of powerhouses who surpass the world's level, that's all there is to it.
The two chatted like this, drawing closer and closer to the outer perimeter of the Star Dou Great Forest.
The century-level Spirit Beasts along the way had grown fewer, while those below a century gradually became more numerous.
Xiadie leaped down from a forked branch, landing on an open stretch of grass. She looked toward the direction she had come from and said lightly:
"Sir, is there something you need after following me for so long?"
