Chapter 118: Strange House
After hearing Feng Yan's words, the soldier's heart gave a sudden thump; then he looked around, and after making sure no one nearby had heard, he whispered: "It's impossible, this place is impossible. Look at those people—that's what happens when you rebel!"
Feng Yan lowered his head and remained silent; he seemed to have realized.
These people's bones already have a certain servility; they have a muddle-through mindset; they kneel on the ground, secretly gazing at the power pillar forged from refined steel, otherwise they would act rashly.
Their cowardice has long penetrated to the marrow; how could such people be made to rebel? They simply cannot rebel.
As for igniting their passion, Feng Yan also thought it unlikely.
Feng Yan remained silent; the soldier, seeing Feng Yan lower his head, also found it strange, leaned in to his face trying to read his expression, but the next second Feng Yan lowered his head and closed his eyes.
Feng Yan emerged from his thoughts, opened his eyes and saw the soldier leaning in his face; his eyes shot out a gleam of light.
It seemed as if he could see through everything, shooting a dazzling beam of light in the darkness.
The soldier was startled by that gaze, and at the same time realized that the person before him could accomplish what he said.
Then Feng Yan raised his head, gazing at the sky; the night slowly faded, the darkness was about to disappear, and a faint light appeared in the sky.
The soldier heard Feng Yan say: "The sky, it's getting light soon."
The soldier nodded, then respectfully said: "You may go out now! Please!"
Feng Yan nodded, as a thanks, then he hoisted the earlier person's corpse onto his back. He felt that the aftermath here was very strange; the previous few countries still had some order, but here it truly made him feel off. Yet he did not ask, knowing that even if he did, he would get no answer—only the words "cannot resist".
Feng Yan carried the corpse on his back, with the children following behind; the soldiers saw them off as they went farther away, looking like a big beggar leading a group of little beggars to the palace to beg for food, after obtaining sustenance to survive, slowly leaving.
"Our lives are worse than a dog's!" a soldier murmured, looking at the prince before him.
Soldiers guarded the palace gate; the prince was feeding the dog, using his own leftover breakfast. The dog was quite large, all white‑gray, occasionally baring its sharp teeth; the prince gave it a bone, and all he heard was a crisp crack as the bone snapped in two inside the dog's mouth.
"Mine, it's mine!" the prince said lightly, picking up a bone and throwing it at the dog.
The dog lunged again at the spot where the prince had thrown the bone, then bit down, slowly chewing and swallowing it into its stomach. Seeing this, the prince finally broke into a smile; just as he was about to head back, a guard ran up and whispered something in his ear.
This instantly stiffened his earlier smile; soon after, the prince put on a stern face and asked in a grave tone: "Is it true?"
The guard nodded, thereby answering the prince's question.
The prince forced himself to calm down, then tried to suppress his anger and asked: "Have they left the city yet?"
The soldier lowered his head and respectfully replied: "No."
The prince let out a breath, his complexion easing a little, then said: "Notify the whole country—wherever the adventurer is, everyone must leave it for me!"
"You haven't even asked the king for permission, Your Highness Prince—is this alright?" After hearing the prince's words, the guard understood in his heart that the prince was determined to keep Feng Yan here.
"I'll settle it myself with my father!" the prince said, then turned and summoned his attendants, leading the dog away.
The soldiers stood where they were, beginning to feel troubled.
If the prince's order could be carried out, they would naturally do so—but they hadn't received the king's permission, so who would dare?
They stood there, their faces showing no emotion, yet inside they were extremely anxious.
Only when an urgent document arrived did the soldiers begin to move, and their hanging hearts finally settled.
The document read: "Use every means possible to keep the adventurer within the country!"
At that moment, Feng Yan and the children stopped at a certain place.
Before them stood an extremely magnificent villa, a European‑style building that looked very foreign; on the roof sat an angel, perched at a corner, her body covered in moss.
The gate was tightly shut; seeing this, the children trembled all over, fear in their eyes.
One child, voice trembling, begged Feng Yan: "Big brother, let's leave quickly—this place is terrifying……"
The children's words made Feng Yan feel that the place before them was even stranger.
Feng Yan carefully observed the house before him—tall and magnificent, only slightly inferior to the palace; although the angel statue on the roof was strange, it did not affect the overall impression of the house.
"Why does it make me feel strange?"
This was Feng Yan's question; he couldn't figure it out, kept thinking, standing motionless in place like a statue.
Before Feng Yan hung a plaque, but the writing on it was something he could not read.
Passersby saw Feng Yan and the few children standing there and cast scornful glances.
They regarded these people as beggars; some walked past and even threw down a few copper coins.
Feng Yan bent down, picked up the coins, and gave them back to the person who had thrown them.
This made the man feel he had been gravely insulted; just as he was about to unleash a torrent of abuse, he noticed the black sword on Feng Yan's back.
The man's eyes greedily fixed on Feng Yan's black sword, then he said contemptuously: "Beggar, I want to buy your sword—will you sell it?"
Feng Yan shook his head and replied: "No sale!"
After being refused by Feng Yan, the man's face flushed then paled, and he shot a vicious glare at Feng Yan, shouting: "You ungrateful beggar, I give you money and you give it back to me—do you look down on me? I, the young master, am buying your sword with my money; that's giving you face!"
Feng Yan looked at the man before him—his face was a mass of flesh, greasy, with a big belly and triangular eyes, looking utterly disgusting.
"I said I won't sell—do you want to take it by force?"
Feng Yan replied, his expression calm.
No sooner had the words left his mouth than the man grabbed Feng Yan's collar, his face contorted, and said: "You, will you sell it or not?"
"No sale!"
Still giving the same answer, the man raised his right hand, about to strike, when a loud shout came from behind.
"Don't move!"
The man turned his head, saw the soldiers behind him, and released his grip.
"Hahaha……"
Feng Yan laughed without regard for his image, then clenched his fist and threw a punch straight at the man's belly.
Thud!
Only a loud bang was heard; the man clutched his belly and rolled on the ground, his complexion terrible, turning the color of liver.
Whoosh—, only the sound of Feng Yan drawing the black sword from behind him was heard, pointing it directly at the man's throat, he lightly asked: "Do you still want it? I'll give it to you for free—provided you have the life to take it."
The man shook his head, indicating he would not want it.
Feng Yan put away the Black Sword, slung it behind his back, then looked at the soldiers and asked, "Is this the king's order?"
"Yes!" the soldiers replied in unison.
Feng Yan grunted, then looked at the sign again and asked the soldiers, "What does it say?"
In response to Feng Yan's inquiry, a soldier replied, "Sir, this is the Juvenile Correction Center."
"Juvenile Correction Center?" Feng Yan thought it strange, wondering why such a weird place existed here.
"Can I go in?" Feng Yan asked again.
The soldiers looked at each other, then respectfully replied, "Sir, to enter here we need the king's permission; you may first go to Wanggong to request the king's permission."
"So that means I can't just go in directly, right?" Feng Yan understood, and asked the soldiers.
"Yes, sir, I'm sorry, you cannot enter now." The soldier said, preparing to take Feng Yan back to Wanggong.
Just as Feng Yan also thought about following the soldiers back to Wanggong, a miserable cry came from the house behind him.
Ah! That person was extremely horrifying, accompanied by the child's wails and cries, only hearing the child continuously shout: "I was wrong! I was wrong, please, spare me, let me off this once!"
But the next second, an even louder wail came, and Feng Yan could no longer hold back; he drew the Black Sword, preparing to strike the iron door.
However, the soldiers had already surrounded him.
The leading soldier stepped forward and said, "Sir, I advise you: the people inside, even if they are adventurers, are not someone you can provoke!"
However, Feng Yan merely coldly said: "You lot, get lost."
"Please come with us; you can request the king to let you enter here, but for now, please come with me to Wanggong!" the soldier pleaded again.
Feng Yan said nothing; his answer was the Black Sword in his hand, the blade emitting a dark red glow, then a flash of that light shattered everyone's weapons.
In everyone's eyes, panic showed, and they all began to retreat.
"Get out!" Feng Yan shouted; after saying that, he aimed the Black Sword at the iron door, with a clang the door's lock was split open, Feng Yan kicked the door open and ran straight inside…
At this moment, it was afternoon; abroad, people were napping, the soldiers were shouting in the king's bedchamber, disturbing the king's rest.
The king was about to erupt, but upon hearing the soldiers' report, he was stunned.
An adventurer actually ran there! That place is one even I don't dare to go often; no wonder they say adventurers are not easy to deal with.
Feng Yan rushed into the house, running through the corridor, making heavy footsteps.
The guard inside heard the sound, came out and saw a man in tattered clothes, about to stop him, but was slapped down to the ground.
"Ah!"
Feng Yan heard that sound again; he ran toward the nearest room, kicked the door open, and saw something that even frightened him.
