Chapter 63: The Dwarves' Complaint
"What? Do we still have to continue? Aren't our casualties serious enough?" a voice muttered in the crowd.
"Yeah, our casualties are already serious enough; if we continue, the Dwarf Tribe will be wiped out. We might as well return to Li Guo and keep being their slaves—then we'll be safe and live peacefully." another voice replied.
"How come, you still want to be dogs? Do you think people would want a dog that has already run away? Don't be foolish, you lot—you Dwarves—listen to me properly: your path is only this one, there will be no second. You think lying on the ground will make things better? No, those of you lying on the ground are merely a pampered toy—no, you should say not even a toy, you don't even count as a toy; at most you're just a pawn." a voice rang out, addressing the crowd of Dwarves.
In the forest, the Dwarves looked around in all directions, but couldn't figure out who made that voice, so they had to ask: "Who is it?"
Only then did a person slowly walk through the golden phoenix tree forest, arriving before the crowd of Dwarves. He first glanced at the Dwarves, then turned his back to them and continued: "I originally thought the Dwarves were the embodiment of courage and tenacity, but I was wrong. The records of the ancients praised the Dwarves highly, even with some mythic color, but now it looks like you're just a bunch of good-for-nothings, still wanting to be someone's dog!"
"What gives you the right to say that?"
"Yeah, what gives you the right?" The crowd's voices grew louder and louder, unable to stop for a moment.
The chieftain, faced with this situation, on one hand tried to stop these people, gesturing for them to cease, and on the other asked: "May I ask, sir, who are you?"
"I'm just a passing adventurer. I originally wanted to see if you Dwarves had the ability to regain your freedom with your own strength, but now it seems some of your people have long been accustomed to being dogs. Besides, what great deeds could you expect from a pack of dog pups? I think you'd better stay on your knees—keep kneeling until they come with knives and behead you one by one; in that final moment before your heads hit the ground, you'll regret not having resisted." The man replied, his voice filled with anger and disappointment, then he turned his head—and it was Zhang Xiaobo!
"It's him! We're saved!" the Dwarves shouted loudly, and for a moment the phoenix tree forest echoed with their cheers.
"Adventurer, please lead us to victory!" one person shouted, taking the lead, and then the people behind joined in.
"Lead! Victory! Victory!"
The moment the Dwarves saw Zhang Xiaobo, their morale rose considerably; they shouted slogans while running toward him. Lin Xiyan heard the sound, so she opened the window and saw Zhang Xiaobo. She knew he was another adventurer, so she paid no further attention. Compared to this, she worried more about Feng Yan—since she had seen him then, she had heard nothing of him, which didn't worry her, but she firmly believed he would be fine; though it was just a feeling, she still believed it.
Lin Xiyan placed both hands on her chest, closed her eyes, and silently murmured: "Feng Yan, where are you now?"
"Ah-choo, who's badmouthing me behind my back?" Feng Yan stood at the edge, speaking to the pit before him.
"Isn't someone just missing you?" Chen Hao said jokingly.
"Get lost, get lost, get lost—two sentences and you're still not serious. Hurry up and fix this thing; I feel if we don't get it sorted, the Wanggong will definitely have trouble." Feng Yan replied, his face full of worry.
Chen Hao listened to Feng Yan's words, while scanning the surroundings. The gilding on the wall had melted due to the sudden high temperature, turning into golden liquid; then, because of Feng Yan's blood-night cause, the fire slowly died out. Chen Hao felt puzzled, pondering the connection between the gold on the wall and the eight iron chains, but he could never see how those things related to the wall—until Feng Yan posed a question, and Chen Hao instantly understood.
Feng Yan asked: "Why did the gold melt, while these few iron chains are still fine?"
