Chapter 32: White Bone Grows an Eye!

~8 min read 1,406 words

The sun and moon appear every day; they seem ordinary yet are not ordinary.

Sun rises, moon sets, day and night alternate, seasons cycle—this is the way of heaven's cyclical principle.

Ancients worshipped the moon to pray for abundant harvests; later it became a carrier of longing, entrusting human yearning and expressing people's nostalgia for homeland, relatives, and friends.

In modern eyes, the vast depths of space are full of mystery; the moon is the celestial body nearest Earth, a forward outpost for humanity's venture into deep space, and some have even suggested immigrating to the moon.

Compared to the sun's scorching heat, its emitted light keeps everyone at bay; that gentle silver glow seems more easily accepted.

Perhaps because it appears daily, everyone takes it for granted, Ye Qin included; the moon he contemplates hangs above the firmament, its bright light never changing.

It is beautiful, yet it lacks some soul.

Rather than calling it a moon, it is better described as a mere light-emitting object, devoid of lunar divinity, like a soulless shell.

"Perhaps it's just a little short—what exactly is missing?"

Gazing at the moon overhead, Ye Qin pondered deeply.

People experience joy and sorrow, parting and reunion; the moon has waxing and waning, and it is not unchanging.

Just as he previously contemplated White Bone, able to grow flesh from bone and bone from flesh—following the way of reincarnation—the moon follows the same principle.

Ye Qin suddenly understood; as he grasped this, the shadow of the moon he contemplated faded bit by bit, dissolving like a flower in a mirror, moon in water.

Heaven and earth once again fell into a state of chaos.

The long night stretched on, boundless darkness enveloping heaven and earth, without a trace of light; the whole sky was shrouded in a black curtain, pressing so hard one could barely breathe.

After an unknown time, amidst a haze, the Milky Way dotted with countless points of light drifting to and fro, a splendid galaxy floated before Ye Qin.

Heavenly constellations change in myriad ways, yet follow a set pattern, containing endless regularities; however, the central position remains vacant, as if waiting for something to arrive.

The Milky Way surged, silver light converging, raising heaven‑shaking waves; faintly a huge outline could be seen, gathering the whole of heaven and earth within.

Silver gauze became water; myriad galaxies moved because of it, and finally the outline of this thing became visible.

It was an enormous disc, pouring down like a waterfall.

Silver light flashed, illuminating past and present, heaven and earth joined, the moon as a bridge.

Between heaven and earth there was only this clear, translucent shadow.

It seemed near enough to pluck stars and embrace the moon with a reach, yet actually far away; its image shifted endlessly, from a thin crescent to a full jade disc.

Ye Qin's entire serpent body bathed in it.

Then a huge white bone gradually appeared behind him, coalescing into form like a solid object.

Pale silver radiance formed thousands of threads of gauze, wrapping the white bone; using it as a medium, the heavenly Milky Way poured down, continually washing the bone.

The bone's surface continually shed black impurities, which were then purified by moonlight.

The originally gloomy skeleton, after the moonlight's ablution, gained a sense of solemn sanctity.

Next, the jade disc on the firmament kept spinning, as if pulled by some inexplicable force.

From this, the Milky Way began to ripple, forming a huge vortex; countless stars fell and rose, then condensed into a massive light that flew into the white bone's right eye socket.

An eye actually grew just like that!

The white bone's right eye remained an empty void, like a distant, profound universe.

The other eye, however, was brilliant with the Milky Way, moonlight pouring ten thousand miles.

White Bone Grows an Eye!

Eyelashes fluttered, the eye's gaze shifted, but aside from that eye everything was white bone!

This should have been an exceedingly bizarre sight, yet the vast undulations within those two eyes added a sense of splendid wonder.

As the Origin Contemplation Object White Bone changed, Ye Qin, as the subject, emitted a blinding white light that even concealed the original color of his serpent body.

His serpent bones became as hard as jade, each fragment radiating an inexplicable glow.

At first glance, it looked like a great white serpent.

At this moment, inside and out, Ye Qin felt sublimated, even feeling an urge to rush toward the moon.

In an instant, his serpent's dark‑green pupil was replaced by the jade disc; a thin crescent moon faintly reflected in the pupil, leaving an indelible mark.

"My left eye also received nourishment from the contemplation object, absorbing the lunar yin radiance!"

At this moment, Ye Qin's left serpent eye and the white bone's eye were wonderfully alike, both nourished by the Origin Contemplation Object White Bone!

The left eye is the moon, wrapped in silver gauze; myriad galaxies pour down, revealing the wondrous sight of the bright moon slowly rising.

At this moment, he seemed able to see all things; nothing in the world could escape his dharma eyes, all under his control.

"Second Realm, Fortune Tempering Body!"

"I used White Bone to contemplate the Taiyin Bright Moon as fortune, tempering it in one eye, thereby letting the Origin Contemplation Object White Bone derive a left eye transformed by the Taiyin."

"Thus, my serpent body, affected by the Origin Contemplation Object, also underwent a wondrous change in the left eye."

"This is the original intention of the contemplation method."

Ye Qin could even see his bones turn into a jade‑like structure, impossibly hard.

Soon the jade disc flew out again, suspended high above the firmament; Ye Qin's eyes returned to normal, and the phantom fancy dissolved.

The imagined White Bone also turned into specks of light that merged into Ye Qin's body.

Freeing himself from the contemplation illusion, in the real world he still had those pale‑green pupils; but if one looked closely, a faint crescent trace could be seen, as if the Taiyin had left its proof.

Although the contemplation fusion was merely an instant, given Ye Qin's current cultivation level he could not fully fuse the Taiyin power into his eyes, yet even that brief contact brought him great benefit.

And in reality, his whole serpent body emitted a faint light barely perceptible to the human eye, like moonlight flowing, while the surrounding magnetic field subtly shifted.

On the other side, Xie Yixuan finally arrived near the lightning strike, no longer venturing closer.

But strangely, the thunder faded and the weather gradually cleared.

Even so, he dared not get too close, lest he accidentally trigger another thunderstorm on a cloudy day; a slight mistake would be no laughing matter.

He stood far away, squinting to look; aside from the lightning here, there seemed nothing different, appearing quite ordinary, and Xie Yixuan couldn't help feeling a bit disappointed.

"I thought there would be something good, but it turns out to be nothing special."

Xie Yixuan was about to head home when he suddenly seemed to spot something, and couldn't help exclaiming.

"Huh, how come there's a snake there?"

Xie Yixuan rubbed his eyes; from a distance he could faintly see a creature coiled on the ground far away, its body slender—indeed the shape of a Serpent Kind.

"This snake isn't moving at all—could it have been struck dead by lightning? It's too far away to tell."

Given the lightning strike, there ought to be no living thing on the ground.

The surrounding ground was scorched black, stones and tree branches all shattered—every trace showed the lightning's fury.

The snake's outline was faintly visible; though mostly black, it didn't look like it had been struck dead.

All creatures have the instinct to seek advantage and avoid harm; on this road he had seen no living things, but upon spotting a snake here he was instantly amazed.

"All Serpent Kind should be hibernating now—how could a snake be out here?"

Xie Yixuan widened his eyes, wanting to see more clearly.

However, not far away it was hazy, as if a thin veil lay there, giving him the feeling of seeing flowers through mist.

The snake in the distance didn't seem very long—about a meter or so—its eyes were closed, yet its body stood upright, holding a strange pose.

It was really strange.
