Chapter 14: Escape from Death
The giant eagle's sharp talons tore through the air, emitting a shrill whistle; Zhang Yi could even feel his fine hairs standing on end from the force of this gale.
Ju Niao Mu Qin flapped her wings desperately, her massive body carving streaks of afterimages in the air, yet the giant eagles were faster and more numerous, following closely behind them like a black cloud of death.
"Damn it! Why won't these beasts just give up!"
Zhang Yi couldn't help but curse; he glanced back and discovered that Nudi's flight speed was becoming slower and slower, and her complexion had turned pale.
"Hey, stinky girl, can you still hold on?"
Zhang Yi shouted at the top of his lungs.
Nudi gritted her teeth, fine beads of sweat seeping from her forehead, and she glared fiercely at Zhang Yi: "Mind your own business! You dead crow!"
Despite her tough talk, her trembling legs and gradually sinking figure had already exposed her current weakness.
"No, if this continues, we will both be caught!"
There was a hint of anxiety in Ju Niao Mu Qin's voice.
"Girl, hold tight to my tail!"
Nudi hesitated for a moment, but ultimately reached out her claws and gripped the feathers on Ju Niao Mu Qin's back tightly.
Ju Niao Mu Qin's speed increased slightly, but the giant eagles were faster; they had already closed in to a distance of less than ten meters, their sharp talons ready to land on them at any moment.
"Stinky brat, do you have any ideas? Now is not the time to play the hero!"
Ju Niao Mu Qin's voice carried a trace of trembling; clearly, she too felt the immense pressure.
Zhang Yi's eyes darted, and he suddenly thought of something: "Hehe, Mother, just watch!"
He took a deep breath, the power of his Jinwu bloodline surging wildly within his body, a ball of scorching flame condensing in his mouth before he sprayed it out violently!
Three Thousand Burning Flames!
"Boom!"
A thick pillar of fire, like a fire dragon, headed straight for the giant eagle chasing in the very front!
The giant eagle clearly hadn't expected Zhang Yi to suddenly pull such a move; caught off guard, it was hit head-on by the pillar of fire!
"Screech—"
The giant eagle let out a miserable, shrill cry, its body igniting with raging flames, and it fell from the sky like a burning fireball.
Seeing this, the other giant eagles let out terrified cries, one after another looking at Zhang Yi, this fire-breathing strange bird, as if looking at a monster.
It was obvious that they were clearly frightened by this sudden, strange method of Zhang Yi's.
For a time, even though their individual strength far exceeded Zhang Yi's, these big guys still dared not rashly approach again.
"Good lad! Well done!"
Ju Niao Mu Qin shouted excitedly.
Zhang Yi lifted his head triumphantly: "Hehe, a mere trifle, not worth mentioning!"
"Who else but me is the only able-bodied man in our family!"
"At a critical moment, I have to step up and carry the banner!"
"Don't you agree, my good Younger Sister!"
However, before they could rejoice for long, more giant eagles swarmed in from all directions, surrounding them tightly.
"Screech—"
The giant eagles let out deafening cries, like funeral bells from hell, announcing their doom.
"Damn it! These beasts are endless!"
Zhang Yi couldn't help but curse.
Ju Niao Mu Qin's expression was grave: "It seems they are determined to put us to death!"
Nudi gripped Ju Niao Mu Qin's feathers tightly, her face as pale as paper; she had completely exhausted her strength and could only let Ju Niao Mu Qin carry her as she flew.
The giant eagles began their attack, their sharp talons and pointed beaks falling like raindrops.
Ju Niao Mu Qin dodged left and right, desperately fending off the giant eagles' attacks, but she was only a bird after all, facing so many giant eagles, each of which had a cultivation realm similar to her own.
As time passed, even she began to feel increasingly overwhelmed.
Zhang Yi also tried his best to spit flames to attack the giant eagles, but his flame energy was limited, and there were simply too many giant eagles; his attacks could not pose much of a threat to them at all.
"Screech—"
A giant eagle seized the opportunity and clawed fiercely at Ju Niao Mu Qin's wing!
"Ah!"
Ju Niao Mu Qin let out a cry of pain, her wing dripping with blood, and her flight speed dropped abruptly.
"Mother!"
Zhang Yi exclaimed.
"Oh no! We can't hold on much longer!"
There was a hint of despair in Ju Niao Mu Qin's voice.
Just then, a dense forest suddenly appeared below.
"Mother, let's dive down!"
Zhang Yi suddenly shouted.
Ju Niao Mu Qin gritted her teeth: "Alright! Let's risk it!"
She dove downward violently, plunging headlong into the dense forest.
The giant eagles pursued relentlessly, following them into the forest as well.
The dense trees blocked out the sky and sun, and the giant eagles' flight in the forest was greatly restricted, their speed slowing down.
Ju Niao Mu Qin took the opportunity to weave through the woods, dodging the giant eagles' pursuit.
However, the trees in the forest also became obstacles for them, and their flight speed was greatly restricted.
"Boom!"
A giant eagle crashed into a large tree and tumbled down.
The other giant eagles also crashed into trees one after another, letting out bursts of miserable shrieks.
Ju Niao Mu Qin also crashed into a large tree and fell heavily to the ground.
"Mother!"
Zhang Yi exclaimed in alarm, hurriedly jumping off Ju Niao Mu Qin's back and running to her side.
"Cough, cough..." Ju Niao Mu Qin coughed up several mouthfuls of fresh blood, her face pale.
"Mother, are you alright?"
Zhang Yi asked anxiously.
Ju Niao Mu Qin shook her head: "I am fine, just slightly injured."
She looked up at the surroundings and discovered that they had already shaken off the pursuit of the giant eagles.
"It seems those fellows shouldn't be able to find us for a while."
Ju Niao Mu Qin breathed a sigh of relief.
Zhang Yi did not care about the pain in his own body and hurriedly checked Ju Niao Mu Qin's injuries.
He saw that a wound deep enough to reveal the bone had been clawed into her wing by the giant eagles, and fresh blood had dyed the surrounding feathers red, looking shocking to the eye.
"Damn it, these feathered beasts are truly ruthless!"
"It's alright, child. This time, thanks to you, otherwise our family of three would likely have been buried in the eagles' bellies."
"Hehe, it's only right, it's only right." Zhang Yi scratched his head and gave a silly laugh.
Ju Niao Mu Qin struggled, wanting to stand up, but because her injuries had not yet healed, she stumbled and nearly fell.
Zhang Yi was quick-eyed and nimble-handed, supporting her as he asked with concern: "How about you rest for a while longer?"
Ju Niao Mu Qin shook her head, "No, this place isn't particularly safe either; those beasts might catch up later."
"We must leave here quickly."
"But your injuries..."
"It doesn't matter, this minor injury is nothing."
Ju Niao Mu Qin forced herself to stand up and looked around, searching for a route to escape.
The dense forest blotted out the sky and sun, and the towering trees blocked their path like walls of bronze and iron.
"This damn place, how do we get out?" Zhang Yi couldn't help but complain.
"Don't be anxious, let me think..."
