Chapter 96: I'm Just Here to Watch the Chaos
Inside the Demon Saint Mansion, the beams were carved and the rafters painted, resplendent in gold and jade, with a thick Demon Qi permeating the air.
A sturdy, sleek-furred Black Bear Great Demon was standing respectfully before a white-haired old man; this old man was none other than an Elder of the Demon Saint Mansion.
"Elder, the matter has been settled. That brat and the Lion King have both agreed to compete on the stage on the final day."
The Great Demon reported in a muffled voice, his tone carrying a hint of sycophancy.
The Demon Saint Mansion Elder stroked his long beard, a trace of imperceptible relief appearing on his aged face.
"Mm, very good."
He replied indifferently, though he secretly breathed a sigh of relief in his heart.
That bird dropping from yesterday remained an inescapable nightmare for him to this day; it had simply caused him to lose all face, and he wished he could find a crack in the ground to crawl into.
These past few days, he had tried his best to avoid appearing in the public eye, fearing that some ignorant Demon Beast would bring up this embarrassing incident again.
He believed that time was the best medicine; as long as enough time passed, the Demon Beasts would naturally forget about this matter.
After all, these beasts without awakened intelligence had poor memories; given enough time, they would forget.
"For these next few days, you continue to keep an eye on the competition. Report any situation promptly; I will not be showing my face."
The Elder waved his hand, signaling for the Black Bear Great Demon to withdraw.
"Yes, Elder, please rest assured; I guarantee there won't be any slip-ups."
The Great Demon nodded and bowed, then scurried away in a flash.
Watching the Great Demon's retreating back, the Elder slowly closed his eyes, and the image of that bird dropping falling from the sky resurfaced in his mind...
"Damn that stinking bird!"
He cursed under his breath.
Around the Arena, the voices were deafening, and all sorts of strange-looking Demon Beasts were rubbing shoulders, making for a bustling scene.
Zhang Yi swaggered through the crowded throng, holding a giant bone in his hand; there was barely any meat left on it, as he had gnawed it clean until it was shiny and greasy.
He headed straight for a spot with an excellent view below the Arena—it was the private seat he had "occupied" a few days ago.
However, the situation today was somewhat different.
A bloated Wild Boar Demon, covered in layers of fat, was lying there comfortably, snoring thunderously as if the entire world had nothing to do with him.
Zhang Yi's brows furrowed slightly; he hated it most when someone snatched his territory, especially when he was already in a bad mood.
"Hey, you fat pig, get up!"
Zhang Yi shouted gruffly, and as he spoke, he took a forceful bite of the bone in his hand, producing a crisp "crunch-crunch" sound. This bone was none other than the remains of Shizhentian.
Last night, his family had carved up Shizhentian's meat completely, leaving only this bare skeleton, which he had taken as a teething stick.
The Wild Boar Demon seemed not to hear, his snoring still thunderous.
Zhang Yi was instantly incensed; he kicked the Wild Boar Demon's massive backside hard and roared, "Are you deaf? I told you to get up!"
The Wild Boar Demon was jolted by the sudden kick and sat up abruptly, his fat quivering wildly.
He rubbed his sleepy eyes, looked at Zhang Yi with a blank expression, and asked with a hint of dissatisfaction, "Who are you? How dare you kick me?"
Zhang Yi sneered, slammed the bone in his hand onto the ground, pointed at the Wild Boar Demon's nose, and cursed, "Blind your pig eyes! This is my territory, get lost immediately!"
Only then did the Wild Boar Demon notice the bone in Zhang Yi's hand, and he was instantly scared out of his wits.
He was all too familiar with the aura of this bone; it was none other than Shizhentian, who had been devoured alive by Zhang Yi's family earlier!
The Wild Boar Demon's eyes were bleary with sleep, and the grease on his fat face shone brightly in the sunlight, looking just like a giant lightbulb smeared with lard.
He blinked his small eyes hard several times before he finally saw clearly who was standing in front of him.
Good heavens, isn't this Zhang Yi? That troublemaker!
In the Demon Saint Mansion, Zhang Yi's name was known to everyone.
These past few days, which of the successive chaotic events had not involved him?
First he devoured Shizhentian alive, then he made the Demon Saint Mansion Elder eat a 'bird dropping combo meal'; he was simply a walking disaster, a comedian in the world of humor.
The Pig Demon grinned, revealing two large yellow teeth, and chuckled dryly, "Yo, isn't this Brother Zhang Yi? You actually came again? I heard your match with the Lion King was scheduled for the last day."
Zhang Yi snorted disdainfully and waved the bone in his hand in front of the Pig Demon, "Can't I come to watch the battle?"
The bone had been gnawed clean and was shiny and greasy, reflecting a blinding light in the sun, which made the Pig Demon's heart skip a beat.
This was Shizhentian's bone, after all!
The Pig Demon dared not say another word of dissent and hurriedly moved his massive body to make room for Zhang Yi.
He did not want to be the next Shizhentian, turned into a bare bone stick.
Zhang Yi sat down with a thud, crossed his legs, and continued gnawing on the bone, making a "crunch-crunch" sound.
That sound was exceptionally clear in the quiet area below the Arena, making the surrounding Demon Beasts' teeth ache.
Other Demon Beasts looked over upon hearing the sound, and when they saw Zhang Yi.
In an instant, various laughs and discussions erupted, as if a pot had boiled over.
"Hahaha! This brat actually came again, this is too interesting!"
"Seeing him reminds me of yesterday's incident; the Demon Saint Mansion Elder was so angry his face turned green, and it was all this brat's doing!"
"Haha, that's right, I still remember the look on the Lion King's face when he ate that Demon Core coated in bird droppings, that expression, tsk tsk tsk..."
Various voices exploded around the Arena; the Demon Beasts who were originally watching the competition all turned their attention to Zhang Yi, discussing what happened yesterday.
No Demon Beast was watching the match on the stage at all; compared to the flashy but ineffective moves on stage, Zhang Yi's exploits from yesterday were clearly more entertaining.
The scene was rowdy and noisy, even more bustling than a vegetable market.
The few Great Demons responsible for maintaining order saw this and hurriedly rushed over to check the situation.
"What's going on? What's going on? Everyone be quiet!"
A Great Demon shouted at the top of his lungs, yet his voice was quickly drowned out by the clamorous discussions.
The Great Demon pushed through the crowd and saw Zhang Yi sitting there, instantly stunned, "Why is it this damn bird again?"
Zhang Yi looked up at the Great Demon, then continued gnawing on the bone in his hand, looking as if none of this concerned him.
"Aren't you supposed to be in the competition on the final day?" the Great Demon asked.
"That's right."
Zhang Yi asked back with an innocent look on his face, "I came to watch the competition."
"..."
The Great Demon was momentarily speechless.
He truly had not expected that Zhang Yi would actually dare to show up.
However, upon second thought, it wasn't him who was losing face, but the Elder and the Lion King, so why would he be too embarrassed to come out?
Furthermore, although they had restricted him from competing, they couldn't restrict him from coming out to watch the competition.
