Chapter 630: Jiang Wen's New Film?

~7 min read 1,231 words

After the birthday banquet ended.

Zhou Yun posted the photo of everyone hoisting Jiang Wen on Weibo.

In the picture, Ge You grinned tooth‑wide while directing, Zhang Yi Mou and Feng Xiaogang flanked Jiang Wen on the left and right, Chen Kai pushed from behind, and Lin Mo stood guard nearby, fearing they might actually drop the birthday star.

As for Jiang Wen, his smile was downright joyful.

The caption was a simple line: "A man is at least a youth!"

Although Zhou Yun isn't that famous, she's still a star and Jiang Wen's wife.

After she posted that Weibo, the comment section quickly lit up.

"What's going on?"

"I see a cake in the back—someone's birthday?"

"Obviously, it's Zhou Yun's post, no need to ask."

"Just Baidu‑searched, Director Jiang Wen is sixty!"

"It's not just Director Lin; I also saw Wang Shuo!"

"Jiang Dao's 60th birthday!"

"......"

Even Ge You specifically reshared Zhou Yun's post, adding a dog‑head emoji: "Lao Jiang says whoever posted this photo must be anxious; I'm posting it first /dog head/".

Soon after the post went viral, many stars reshared it and sent their blessings to the birthday honoree.

Joking aside, Jiang Wen is a big director and a big shot in the capital circle, so these stars had to rush to curry favor.

The day was still quite fulfilling, ending around 11 p. m.

After Lin Mo saw everyone off with Jiang Wen.

He straight up grabbed Lin Mo and said, "Brother, you and Re Ba just stay here, settle in; let's have a couple of drinks and chat!"

"Brother, still drinking?" Lin Mo laughed, steadying Jiang Wen, "You're sixty now; don't actually end up in any trouble from drinking."

Jiang Wen burst out laughing, slinging an arm around Lin Mo's shoulder: "Don't worry! This time it's tea! Premium Longjing—I saved some especially to share with you."

The two strolled slowly back along the garden path, the night breeze cool and tinged with faint floral scent.

Jiang Wen suddenly lowered his voice: "Brother, any plans to shoot a new film lately?"

Lin Mo shook his head: "Not for now; I want to rest for a while."

"You kid!" Jiang Wen patted his back, "If you don't film a new movie soon, your fans will be anxious!"

Back at the villa, Zhou Yun and Re Ba were sitting on the sofa chatting in the living room.

Nuan Nuan had already fallen asleep in Re Ba's arms.

"Lao Jiang," Zhou Yun stood up, "Are you done talking? I've had the aunt tidy the guest room."

Jiang Wen waved his hand: "The younger couple are staying here tonight! I'll chat a bit more with Brother; you go help settle Nuan Nuan for them."

Zhou Yun understood, took Re Ba's hand: "Come, I'll take you to the guest room; let the two brothers chat, and we'll talk about personal matters."

Re Ba gave Lin Mo a gentle look, whispered, "Don't stay up too late," then carefully cradled Nuan Nuan and went upstairs with Zhou Yun.

In the courtyard, Jiang Wen personally brewed tea.

"Taste," Jiang Wen handed over a cup, "Authentic West Lake Longjing, freshly picked this year."

Lin Mo took it, sipped: "Fine tea! A sweet, lingering aftertaste."

It's not that Lin Mo knows much about tea.

Mainly because he drinks a lot, and they're all premium teas, so he naturally knows a bit.

Jiang Wen leaned on the rattan chair, gazing at the starry sky: "Brother, I've had an idea lately… I want to make a film about dreams."

"Oh?" Lin Mo showed interest, "What's the theme?"

Jiang Wen continued: "It tells of a man's several dreamscapes in a special era—absurd, romantic, with a touch of magical realism."

Lin Mo raised an eyebrow, a sly smile at the corner of his mouth: "Brother, the man you speak of… could it be that same one again?"

Jiang Wen, hearing that, sat up straight, glanced left and right, lowered his voice: "Shh—keep it down!" He made an exaggerated throat‑clearing gesture, "This can't be spoken recklessly; I still hope it passes review smoothly!"

The two exchanged a glance and burst out laughing together.

"Don't worry," Jiang Wen leaned back against the chair, took a sip, "I've learned my lesson this time. The protagonist is just an ordinary intellectual having absurd dreams in a special era." He blinked, "How the audience interprets it is up to them."

Lin Mo nodded knowingly: "Got it, it's the art of leaving blanks."

"That's exactly it!" Jiang Wen slapped his thigh, "I plan to tell the story in four chapters, each dream with a different style…"

The two talked about the film for a little over an hour.

Mainly because Jiang Wen had been bottling it up for a long time, couldn't find anyone to discuss it, and now Lin Mo came to Yanjing, so he had to have a proper chat.

Lin Mo raised his cup: "Then I'll pre‑wish you, Brother, that your new film passes review smoothly!"

"Borrow your good words!" Jiang Wen smiled, clinking his cup.

Lin Mo quietly pushed open the door, and in the warm glow of the bedside lamp saw Re Ba leaning against the headboard scrolling on her phone, while Nuan Nuan was curled up in the small crib beside his mother, sleeping soundly.

"Not asleep yet?" Lin Mo whispered, closing the door softly.

"Shh—" Re Ba raised a finger, pointing at her daughter, "She just fell asleep a short while ago."

Lin Mo tiptoed to the crib's edge, leaning down to look at the sleeping Nuan Nuan.

The little guy lay on his side, his face flushed, chubby hands still clutching a plush rabbit he'd played with before sleep. He couldn't help but gently stroke his daughter's soft hair; Nuan Nuan twitched his tiny nose in a dream, turned over, and kept sleeping.

Re Ba set down her phone, a smile at the corner of her mouth: "We've been waiting for you; what were you and Jiang Ge talking about?"

"Talking movies; he's got a new film idea!"

Hearing that, Re Ba was quite curious: Jiang Ge's new film?

"What new film?"

Lin Mo took off his coat and hung it on the rack, "He wants to make a film about dreams this time, in a magical‑realism style."

Re Ba lifted a corner of the blanket: "Just listening to it feels very Jiang Dao‑style. Has the script been decided?"

"Still in the planning stage." Lin Mo crawled into the blanket and let out a comfortable sigh.

Re Ba leaned against his shoulder, then smiling asked: "This time, Jiang Ge's movie won't fail the review again, right~"

Lin Mo laughed and turned off the light: "He's just like that, always wanting to hide something in his movies."

In the darkness, Re Ba chuckled lightly: "You guys talking about movies is just as exciting as us women gossiping."

"Not really," Lin Mo yawned, "once we start chatting we lose track of time. Old brother is sixty, his energy is even more vigorous than mine."

"Sister‑in‑law originally wanted to come urge you, but seeing you guys chatting happily I didn't let her go. Jiang Dao's birthday today, it's rare to see him this happy."

(PS: After finishing writing this month, with full attendance it will be wrapped up, and on the 1st we'll directly start a new book on this account.)
