Chapter 394: Desensitization Test
And at the other end, Shen Qing was on the way back to the Defiers' Stronghold.
Shen Qing tried using the Origin Eye all along the way; the strength of this chaos entry was obviously high.
Shen Qing didn't want to bury this entry.
But to test the strength, he still needed a real battle.
Shen Qing thought of something and looked at Li Lun walking ahead: "Li Lun, the last Jeffrey I killed, I see two living beings had a good relationship with him—could they possibly retaliate against me?"
Li Lun pondered for a moment: "You mean those two? The snake person is called She Si, and the female elf is called Anna."
"As for Anna, I've heard of her; she's been with the Defiers for some years, but she's a pragmatic person—by now she's probably given up the idea of revenge."
"But that She Si is another matter—his kind has always been sneaky and holds grudges."
Shen Qing chuckled: "Holding a grudge? I love that."
Shen Qing only felt his fists itching.
"Li Lun, do you know..."
"Forget it, wait a moment."
Just as Shen Qing opened his mouth to ask about She Si's location, Xu Luo's voice sounded in the consciousness network.
Normally, the consciousness network couldn't connect over such a distance, but after Shen Qing grasped the domain of causal power, there was no limit—as long as his body bore Shen Qing's causal silk thread, he could communicate ignoring distance.
"Master, I might have discovered something—did Xu Yun and Jia Lu die at your hand?"
"Yes." Shen Qing raised his eyebrows—exposed so quickly?
Xu Luo continued: "The Rebels suspect something fishy; they're preparing to send people to investigate their death site, dispatching four Rebels in total."
Shen Qing raised his eyebrows: "Four people? What's their strength?"
"One is stronger than me, one is about the same, the other two are weaker than me—possibly even weaker than Li Lun."
"Alright, Xu Luo, find a chance to slow them down, hold out as long as you can until I reach you—don't let them reach their destination."
"Okay."
Shen Qing didn't want this group of Rebels to reach the Evil Spirit World or the Interdomain Battlefield; killing them there would surely draw the Rebels' attention.
The people sent out now aren't that strong, but if these four die, the Rebels' next dispatch will likely be of Primordial Evil God strength.
Shen Qing couldn't guarantee he could stop them every time.
So he'd just kill them midway, then disguise himself—best to subdue one or two Rebels as servants, have them return with false intel to mislead the Rebels; that's the best option.
That would also be a permanent solution—at least their gaze wouldn't stay on his world.
Even if exposed later, it would at least buy some buffer time.
During this period, how much stronger Shen Qing will become is still unknown.
Shen Qing called Li Lun to a halt: "Li Lun, let's go—we'll kill a few Rebels before heading back."
Li Lun stopped his steps, turned his head with a dazed look at Shen Qing; Shen Qing's tone made him think Shen Qing was going to kill a few little chicks.
Hey.
Those are Rebels, you know.
Please!
And at the other end.
The four Rebels and Xu Luo were together heading to the Evil Spirit World, the four Rebels chatting.
"You say how did Xu Yun and the others perish in that remote world?"
The Dwarf Rebel was named Luo Mu, perhaps because dwarves love drinking, and Luo Mu never parts with his drink.
He took a big gulp of ale, let out a belch: "Maybe they got drunk and fell asleep somewhere."
Another Rebel was a white male wearing a monocle, named Ma Xiu, and he was the strongest of the four Rebels.
He rolled his eyes: "You think they're all like you?"
"But three Rebels dying simultaneously in one place is rare; this time we're still focusing on investigation."
"I was originally a bit worried about this mission, but fortunately Xu Luo you came too, so we have much more confidence."
As he spoke, he glanced at Xu Luo; Xu Luo's expression was a bit stiff.
Suddenly Xu Luo spoke, his voice unusually stiff: "Movement! Something's approaching!"
You know the Heavenly Eye Clan's heavenly-eye perception is extremely keen, so their scouting is usually reliable.
But when Xu Luo spoke, the four Rebels had no intention of being alert; each turned to look at Xu Luo.
Luo Mu the Dwarf said: "Hey hey, Xu Luo, what's wrong with you today? Did you get your eye smashed going out? Go find Mark later to get it fixed."
Xu Luo was dirty and his clothes were torn—this was from being beaten by Shen Qing, and after Shen Qing implanted a soul mark on him, Xu Luo hadn't had time to clean up or change clothes, making him look like he'd just gone through a big battle.
Another Rebel said: "Xu Luo, you're not deliberately messing with us, are you?"
Xu Luo didn't continue speaking; he just silently looked at them.
That's right—Xu Luo had already reported three or four times along the way that something was approaching.
This is actually a desensitization test; "Wolf coming" is the most famous example of a desensitization test.
At first everyone would tense up at a cry of "Wolf coming," but later, when the real wolf came, they'd still think it was a test.
Xu Luo's shouting was also giving the Rebels a desensitization test; now that he's testing them, making them desensitized, when Shen Qing really arrives they'll still think it's a test.
Suddenly, in the dim space, a flash of light streaked by—something seemed to be approaching at extreme speed.
Ma Xiu reacted, turning his eyes to see in the dim space a four-colored lotus flashing with brilliant light approaching at extreme speed.
He shouted: "No! This is real! Dodge!!!"
But it was already too late—the other three Rebels were inherently weaker than Ma Xiu, slower still, and even Ma Xiu could barely react.
By the time the other three noticed, the Supreme Lotus was already before their eyes, the brilliant four-colored light reflecting in their pupils as a beautiful glow.
Then.
Boom!
The Supreme Lotus exploded among the three rebels, blinding light instantly engulfing the three, and even Matthew on the edge was caught in the blast, flung outward, his arms twisted into a strange posture.
After stabilizing his stance, Matthew looked toward the direction from which the lotus came; there Shen Qing and Li Lun were quietly watching him.
Matthew's expression grew ferocious: "Xu Luo! Let's go together! They only have two."
But just then, Xu Luo's voice sounded: "Not two, but three."
In Matthew's astonished gaze, Xu Luo slowly came to Shen Qing's side.
Matthew glanced at Xu Luo, then at Shen Qing and Li Lun, and growled low at Xu Luo.
"So you've betrayed me! I knew you were acting weird today!"
He then turned to Shen Qing: "But this sinister plan must have been your idea, right?"
"Xu Luo said four times along the way that something was approaching! The first three were false! You were trying to confuse us!"
Shen Qing glanced at Matthew, then said nothing.
Li Lun chuckled: "Matthew! We three—why do you think the plan was his idea?"
Matthew snarled, pointing at Xu Luo: "Look at yourself! Look at his stupid look—could he come up with such a nefarious scheme?"
"And you, Li Lun! You blockhead! Pretending to be smart!"
Finally, Matthew pointed at Shen Qing: "So besides you, who else?!"
This made Shen Qing laugh angrily: "Damn, your guess is pretty accurate, but the more accurate you are, the harder I'll strike!"
"I'll kill you!"
