Chapter 69: Opening a Separate Chapter to Clarify
Many people dislike the characters Yang and Li, raising various objections and expressing dissatisfaction with my writing.
How to put it? In a way, I’ve succeeded.
Because these two characters were deliberately crafted to be unlikable.
But to call them villains, I don’t think they qualify.
So far in this novel, the only true villains in an absolute sense are the extreme environment, the cold beasts, and the supernatural entities—believe me, you can see it.
From Yang and Li’s perspective, their goal is undoubtedly the treasures on the Wooden Puppet supernatural entity, but the fact remains they helped.
Moreover, from the very beginning, I said in one reply that Yang and Li’s understanding, and that of the humans around Hongmu Ridge—including the protagonist—are severely fractured due to their differing positions, so they cannot understand each other.
Though I didn’t explain it clearly, you who have read extensively should be able to see it.
It’s just that a large number of long-standing black-and-white novel worldviews have influenced some readers.
I’ll say only this: people are complex creatures. I don’t want to simply create a villain to be killed by the protagonist—that feels not only unsatisfying but also an insult to myself and to the readers.
I may have problems with insufficient writing skill, illogical structure, data errors, and all sorts of other issues.
But the sincerity behind shaping every character, I can still guarantee.
Also, a heads-up: everyone who’s guessed the upcoming plot so far is wrong, hahaha.
My readership keeps rising, and I’ll keep working hard—thank you all!!!
