Chapter 306
“The body has been delivered. I just performed an autopsy, and the front half of the body is charred.”
“But the back half is completely intact.”
“If a person were truly burned to death, they would definitely have reacted before dying because it would be very hot.”
“But this body is too strange; the back is fine and wasn't burned at all.”
“So I think the deceased was likely not burned to death.”
“However, the autopsy revealed no other fatal wounds, nor were any drugs found in the body.”
Xiang Qinqin gave a rough summary of what happened this morning.
“What about the scene? Were there any clues?”
Chen Fan asked.
Xiang Qinqin replied: “The fire was huge; everything in the deceased’s home was burned up, except for a tiny bit of the bed the deceased was lying on.”
“As of now, no traces have been found.”
Sometimes, handling cases is just like this.
No clues at the scene, and no clues on the body either.
The forensic doctors can only keep searching within these two things.
“Let’s go take a look together in a while.”
Chen Fan said, “Hurry up and eat now; you’re distracted while eating, and it won’t do to waste good food.”
Perhaps because Chen Fan was by her side, Xiang Qinqin didn't dwell on the case too much.
“Okay.”
Xiang Qinqin nodded obediently.
Ten-plus minutes later.
Chen Fan and Xiang Qinqin finished lunch and arrived at the autopsy room.
Old Liu was there too.
Seeing Chen Fan arrive, he quickly waved and said, “You’re here. I was just thinking of calling you to come take a look after you woke up.”
Chen Fan said, “I ran into Xiang Qinqin in the cafeteria earlier, and she told me about this case.”
Old Liu nodded and said, “That’s perfect, come take a look.”
“I haven’t found any clues so far.”
Chen Fan put on his gear and picked up a scalpel.
The surface of the body was charred, and even the organs showed a certain degree of carbonization, which made the forensic work quite difficult.
He took a simple look at the body.
It was indeed as Xiang Qinqin had said; the back of the body had not been burned.
According to basic common sense.
If the deceased had been burned to death, this point was indeed very illogical.
Humans have a sense of pain; upon sensing a burning sensation, they would definitely struggle.
Chen Fan removed all of the deceased’s organs one by one.
He even weighed each organ in his hand as he took them out.
This time, he still didn't notice anything wrong.
The case had indeed reached a stalemate.
If even the cause of death couldn't be determined, it would be hard for the case to progress.
“We did conduct an investigation, but we did indeed find ash in the deceased’s nasal cavity and oral cavity.”
“In other words, a large part of the reason for the deceased’s death was indeed the fire.”
“But this was not the sole cause of death.”
“We also suspected carbon monoxide poisoning, but we didn't find any corresponding evidence.”
“The body didn't give us any answers either.”
Old Liu said.
Just as everyone was stuck in a dilemma.
Old Song brought a man over to the room.
“Where is my wife? How could you autopsy my wife without my consent?”
Outside the autopsy room, the man questioned Old Song.
Old Song said sharply, “This is necessary for the investigation. If we don’t perform an autopsy, we might miss many clues.”
“That still doesn’t mean you can do it without my consent!”
“Besides, my wife was pregnant; what if the baby wasn’t dead yet?”
Old Song was even more speechless: “Half of your wife’s body was carbonized; do you really think your child is still alive?”
“Please don’t be unreasonable. I brought you here because you said you wanted to see your wife one last time.”
The man said, “Regardless, you didn’t have my consent to autopsy my wife! I’m going to sue you when I get back!”
It seemed the man’s words were heard inside the autopsy room.
Chen Fan walked out and said, “Since you’re going to sue, you might as well go do it right now.”
The man had expected Old Song to compromise or beg him, but he didn't expect Chen Fan to say that.
He immediately felt he had lost face.
“You—you! You’re just using your status to bully people like us!”
“Just you wait! I will definitely make you pay the price!”
This scene made the audience laugh.
“What kind of idiot is this? The forensic doctor is trying to find the cause of his wife’s death, and he’s blaming the doctor for the autopsy?”
“Don’t you guys think this person is a bit suspicious? A normal person would be very sad in this situation. Yet he’s here scolding the forensic doctor? And saying he wants to sue them? Is this really normal?”
“I suddenly thought of something bad; could this man…”
Things the audience could think of.
Old Song and Chen Fan would inevitably think of them too.
As the man was being aggressive, Old Song suddenly pinned him down.
“Your wife and child have passed away, and instead of going in to see your wife, you’re here accusing us of performing an autopsy without your consent.”
“You are very suspicious; come with us to the police station.”
The man said, “No, my wife has already been autopsied by you, what else can I do?”
“What am I supposed to go in and see? See my wife who has already been autopsied?”
“I think you’re just abusing your power for personal gain, right?”
Chen Fan said, “Stop talking nonsense; it’s so damn noisy.”
The man was taken away.
Chen Fan walked back into the autopsy room and saw Xiang Qinqin drawing a sample of the deceased’s blood for testing.
Suddenly.
Chen Fan seemed to have thought of something and turned to call Old Song over.
“What’s wrong? Why did you suddenly run over?”
Old Song asked while pinning the man down.
Chen Fan said, “What is this man’s profession?”
Old Song replied, “I don’t know either, let him answer for himself.”
The man was currently being pinned by Old Song, with only his feet able to move.
He looked at Chen Fan defiantly and said, “I won’t tell you.”
Chen Fan said calmly, “You don’t have to say it, but if the police go to your workplace, you’ll have to say it then.”
“Or do you want me to beat you until you talk?”
Chen Fan raised his fist.
The man immediately cowered.
