Chapter 607: Just Playing Around and Going Too Far

~4 min read 793 words

9:55 in the morning.

In a certain official building, the first-floor conference hall was already packed.

Old Liu sat in his seat, glancing left and right, every now and then staring at the main door, very anxious.

He had no idea where Chen Fan had gotten to either; if he missed the seminar, he, as the person in charge, would definitely get scolded.

Seeing that time was almost up, Old Liu could not sit still any longer and stood up, preparing to head toward the door to make a phone call.

He had just stood up.

When he saw Li Tian and Old Song walk in, with Chen Fan right behind them.

Finally spotting Chen Fan, Old Liu let out a sigh of relief and waved Chen Fan over.

Not long after.

Chen Fan walked over.

Old Liu complained: "I was wondering why those two old fellows insisted you go handle that case — turns out they were coming too."

"Just picking you up on the way to slack off."

Chen Fan and Old Liu grumbled together, saying: "Exactly, that case wasn't even hard."

Old Liu recalled watching the livestream yesterday, turned his head and asked: "You already figured it out in the end, right? That kid was just playing around and went too far, right?"

As a professional forensic examiner, Old Liu could certainly infer the result from some of the earlier clues.

Chen Fan nodded and said: "That's right, autoerotic asphyxiation, playing around and going too far."

The words had barely fallen.

The seminar officially began.

This seminar was not only aimed at forensic examiners, but also at a portion of the police side.

That was why Old Li and Old Song had also come to attend.

After all, at the end of the day, forensic examiners were still there to assist the police in catching killers.

As soon as the seminar started.

Two national-level leaders were invited to speak, and they spent over an hour just on pleasantries.

Chen Fan was listening below, drowsy.

Old Liu noticed Chen Fan and reminded him: "Stop dozing off. Even though this seminar is boring, you'll still have to write a report afterward. Don't end up unable to squeeze out a single word."

Chen Fan's eyes could barely stay open; he waved his hand and said in a giving-up tone: "With you, Teacher, isn't that enough? Just copy one for me later."

Old Liu immediately shielded his own notes: "That won't do. You're now the person everyone's focusing on. If you copy mine, the higher-ups will definitely notice. Don't let me lose my reputation at my old age."

Chen Fan could not be bothered with all that, and turned his head to slump over the desk.

Old Liu shook his head and simply stopped bothering with Chen Fan.

Another hour or so passed, and the two leaders finally finished speaking.

Next came the real seminar.

The purpose of this seminar was to discuss how to more efficiently find clues from corpses and solve cases as quickly as possible.

The host had just finished the announcement when Chen Fan's name was mentioned.

"Among us, we have a comrade who, although young and not formally trained, has helped our police solve many major cases."

"Come, let Comrade Chen Fan be the first to come up and share his experience!"

Chen Fan had been asleep, but suddenly heard his own name and instantly opened his eyes.

But his eyes were full of confusion, so he looked toward his teacher, Old Liu.

Old Liu whispered a reminder: "They're calling you up to share your experience. Hurry on up."

That's all this was about.

Chen Fan was very calm about it; as a celebrity, getting on stage was basic skill.

Letting him go up and say a few words was nothing at all.

Chen Fan walked up to the podium amid everyone's envious gazes, and the host handed the microphone to Chen Fan.

Chen Fan said: "Thanks for giving me this opportunity, haha. Actually, I don't really have much experience to talk about — after all, forensic examiners my age aren't exactly common."

"When you were my age, you were probably still studying at school, let alone solving cases, so I can't really be your reference."

These words, in The Forensic Community where talent abounds, did indeed sound very unpleasant.

But everyone sitting below did not immediately stand up to refute Chen Fan.

After all, Chen Fan's achievements were plain for all to see.

Someone young and not formally trained like Chen Fan, placed on anyone else, could never have achieved what he has now.

It was only because he was Chen Fan — gifted and capable — that he could stand here and share his experience with everyone.
