Chapter 252: *Source Code* Premieres! Taylor's Concert Plans
Since he's going to film *Interstellar*, he'll promote CNSA along the way.
This time Xu Can plans to take it seriously, striving to build on Nolan's original and refine it, elevating this sci-fi film to a new height.
One has to admit, the original *Interstellar* scored 9.4 on Douban and 8.6 on IMDb — it has its own merits.
The visualization of wormholes, black holes, and other cosmic wonders delivered a powerful audiovisual impact to the audience, and many consider it the best sci-fi film since the 21st century began.
Some viewers, however, feel the film's core is a bit thin — yes, love can transcend time and space, and it is humanity's hope for survival,
but the film conveys this view in an overly preachy and clichéd way, which doesn't match the cool, rational tone of hard sci-fi.
The five-dimensional tesseract strikes some viewers as somewhat fantastical and absurd…
In short, it's a film good enough to go down in history, but not a perfect one.
To avoid ruining the film's own experience, the Xucanbu Society won't make any major changes.
Given his own Chinese identity, it makes perfect sense to swap the NASA that builds the interstellar ship in the story's setting for CNSA.
In the story, Earth's climate is harsh, and NASA, having lost its drive to explore, slashes staff heavily to cut costs,
leaving CNSA as the sole institution worldwide that absorbs top aerospace experts from across the globe and strives to break through to the stars.
The endlessly running drone at the film's opening is a Chinese product;
the frozen planet where Dr. Mann is located — Chinese astronauts explored it twenty years earlier and set up a research base there;
the old professor spent his life working on the gravity equation, which was actually completed on the frozen planet by Chinese scientists;
the wormhole coordinates were also first discovered by CNSA,
and the information encoding in the five-dimensional space was all collected and organized by Chinese robots,
so one can conclude that whoever created the five-dimensional space might have been backed by Chinese forces…
None of this is made up by Xu Can — it's all from the original *Interstellar* script, personally written by original screenwriter Jonathan Nolan.
It's perfectly reasonable, because in this world, who else besides CNSA is constantly exploring space, launching satellites, and trying to land on the moon?
Even NASA itself has to ask CNSA for lunar soil — they sent people to the moon decades ago, after all!
In film and television, whenever space comes up, CNSA simply cannot be ignored!
Later Christopher Nolan cut a bunch of stuff, and CNSA was basically scrubbed out entirely,
even the drone was changed to an invention by the Indian guy — that's pretty ridiculous.
So this time Xu Can's adaptation of *Interstellar* carries no psychological burden at all; he plans to fully restore the story's original appearance,
and at the same time complete the mission from above, promoting CNSA's strength and vindicating China's name!
Of course, everything has to wait until the *Source Code* business is wrapped up before Xu Can has time to start the shoot.
Xu Can has to complete a 2014 film in 2009 — burning money on special effects is no small sum.
*Dying to Survive*'s box office has now surpassed 800 million RMB domestically, with global box office racing toward 500 million USD, bringing Xu Can at least 200 million USD in net profit — just the right amount to pour into *Interstellar*,
and combined with *Source Code*'s box office, the company can still maintain a healthy cash flow.
If it can earn enough at the box office…
"Hopefully *Source Code* can break through this time!"
……
At the premiere, no longer held back by Taylor Swift, Emma Stone was visibly much happier, clinging to Xu Can quite affectionately.
She publicly declared her love at the Oscars — essentially an official announcement to the world, chasing Xu Can in front of everyone.
Being able to monopolize Xu Can's red carpet alone this time counts as edging out Taylor by a notch.
The familiar Galaxy Theatre, the familiar premiere, and once again a packed screening hall.
The fans who had waited so long finally got Xu Can's new work!
*Source Code*!
