Chapter 391: The DC Film Universe Begins! The Promise with Cameron!

~3 min read 592 words

Opening weekend box office was $230 million, and by New Year's Day of the second week, The Chouzhelian Alliance had been out for 7 days, with the box office already breaking through $550 million!

Add to that the boost from New Year's and the following weekend, and The Chouzhelian Alliance really has hope of surpassing the $1.88 billion record set by Titanic!

The global film industry has been stunned numb; everyone is talking about The Chouzhelian Alliance, and other film companies can only temporarily lie low and wait for this wave to pass.

The most pitiful one has to be Cameron's Avatar — clearly brimming with ambition, hoping to pull off something big and break the record he himself had set.

In the end, Avatar could only settle for second place at the box office.

Even with a total box office over $1 billion, Avatar still finds it hard to crack the top 3 in all-time box office.

If James Cameron had read Romance of the Three Kingdoms, he'd surely blurt out:

"Since Cameron was born, why was Xu born!"

In this "Christmas showdown," he has already suffered a crushing defeat to Xu Can in advance! It's a foregone conclusion!

Still, in an interview, Cameron kept a remarkably good attitude, chatting cheerfully into the CNN camera:

"I really like Xu Can's The Chouzhelian Alliance; their high box office is well deserved."

"In just these few short years in Hollywood, he's carved out what he has today — I've watched every step of it."

"This belongs to Xu Can's effort and talent; his genius brought him to where he is today. Others can't copy it, and it's not something to be envied."

"More than the outcome between Avatar and The Chouzhelian Alliance, I'm more looking forward to his next works."

"If it's possible, I'd love to co-direct a big production with him."

Whether or not James Cameron's interview was sincere, it was at least magnanimous.

Xu Can also responded from afar:

"Thank you, Director Cameron, for the praise. I grew up watching his films, and I really love the Terminator series."

"Working together is a good idea; I'll think of a way, and together we'll make a film good enough."

Compared with another world-class Jewish director from Hollywood, Spielberg, Xu Can admires James Cameron more.

Cameron is true to his feelings; Spielberg carries the shrewdness of a Jew — not a great fit for collaboration.

Spielberg's habit of sneaking in his own agendas — Xu Can despises it, even though he hides it well.

As for collaborating with Cameron, Xu Can actually has quite a few ideas.

For example, Alita: Battle Angel and Ghost in the Shell — the original live-action versions were both less than satisfactory,

Xu Can completely could do a second creative take and, together with Cameron, film these stories properly.

Avatar 2: The Sewers is likewise rather mediocre; Xu Can try to take this series to a new height.

Of course, the earliest these could be scheduled would be summer 2010.

Xu Can's current film slate is still quite full.

After The Chouzhelian Alliance's release, next up is Spider-Man 3: The Sinister Six, which has finished production review and is waiting to be released.

Beyond that, Iron Man 3, Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier, Lei Shen 2, Hulk's World War, X-Men: First Class, Guardians of the Galaxy…

Marvel films have practically filled up all of 2010.

Besides that, after the DC acquisition was completed, it's been kept on ice until now, propped up only by comic book sales.
