Chapter 508

~5 min read 907 words

The most important aspect of every science fiction film is the construction and setup of the physical sets.

Art director Charles walked over.

He scratched the back of his head with a pen, "Making a divine realm feel more realistic is, in my opinion, a huge challenge!"

Xu Can looked around the set, which now appeared ordinary but would soon become a place both authentic and dazzling!

"Thor's homeland has its own unique culture—we must make the audience feel this homeland truly exists, so it will have real depth!"

Charles grew even more troubled; merely building sets for a science fiction film was already a daunting task, and now they had to make it even more realistic!

"As art directors, every film's pre-production setup is a process of finding our own challenges—why do you think I'm pushing for realism?"

He gave a bitter smile, but it was precisely these challenges that allowed them to create all kinds of miracles.

"I believe we can jointly succeed in building every set!"

In the office, they began designing according to the script as much as possible.

"Most of the scenes in the last film took place inside palaces, but this time is different!"

"We will deeply explore Thor's homeland and need to reconstruct the Golden City from Norse mythology—these are huge challenges for us, and we must give them their own unique culture while also infusing them with a sense of ancient depth!"

Xu Can's words left the creative team in near silence.

This would inevitably delay their release slots indefinitely, making it impossible to meet the scheduled release date.

"So many audiences are waiting for our film—further delays might make them impatient. Are you sure you still want to keep making changes?"

Charles carefully reconsidered all the budgets.

This was not a small sum of money!

"Moreover, you're asking us to build on a grand scale with exquisite craftsmanship—every single requirement demands the highest-grade materials. Do we even have enough budget?"

"Do you still worry about the budget? With me, budget concerns have never existed!"

Xu Can's words gave them a moment of calm.

"Since budget isn't an issue, we must focus on our own capabilities—my creative team will put maximum effort into the Golden City!"

Xu Can glanced at the images on their computers.

They still weren't the scenes he envisioned most accurately.

"The entire divine realm is a place with thousands of years of history—never let it look like a fully modernized city!"

Possessing its own cultural heritage is the most important thing.

"Can we finalize the style? To develop our own culture, we must choose one style—or fuse multiple styles—to be close to classical yet still connect with the modern…"

Charles also offered his opinion.

Xu Can nodded slightly.

Watching the styles they kept pulling up, not all of them satisfied him.

"The image you're looking at now might look dazzling after visual effects, but during filming, we can achieve the same effect with proper lighting—no need for post-production retouching!"

Xu Can nodded slightly—he knew that already.

After many revisions, Thor's homeland was finally built.

Xu Can raised no further revision requests.

Charles finally relaxed.

"You finally stopped making us revise! Our team hasn't had a good night's sleep in ages—this is great!"

"Did I stop you from sleeping? You held yourselves to the same high standard as me—you refused to let go of any detail, knowing everything shown on camera gets magnified…"

Prop production went relatively smoothly.

Dozens of hammers had to be prepared in advance to replace worn ones during filming.

Hammers of different weights and materials had to be prepared ahead of time for different scenes—some requiring immediate damage needed lighter ones.

"These glowing hammers can be used when lightning strikes the hammer—make them appear as realistic as possible on camera!"

Everything was ready.

Xu Can stared at the camera.

Some pre-shoot preparations still needed to be done.

"This waterfall will be used in the film—help me find the best angle, and bring out the drone equipment!"

No shot appears out of nowhere—it's the result of shooting from multiple angles, exploring different times and lighting conditions, to select the perfect one!

They had put in so much effort just to make the entire film more exquisite.

Charles, as head of the props team, stayed by his side, constantly watching the set for any props needing immediate replacement.

"Good—wasn't that waterfall the most spectacular one?"

It matched almost exactly the concept art of their homeland scene.

"Of course!"

Soon they arrived at the Stonehenge filming location.

As Xu Can set up his tripod, his assistant rushed over urgently.

"Bad news—we can't shoot!"

Charles tensed up; this timing was perfect—if they couldn't shoot now, the lighting would be ruined, forcing them to use VFX and losing that powerful realism!

"How can that be? Let's go talk to them again—we already have filming permits! Why won't they let us through? Are they trying to demand extra money again?"

Xu Can quickly grabbed Charles's arm—he needed to hear the exact reason.

The assistant caught his breath, "We got the filming permit, but there are strict additional requirements—we arrived during peak tourist hours, and we can't go in right now!"

Before Xu Can could speak, Charles blurted beside him, "Why is this fair? They never told us this beforehand—they just told us to come! Now we're wasting time again—we won't be able to come until tomorrow!"
