Chapter 220: Like Seeing a Ghost
The sound inside the Western-style building was strange, with a crack-crack and also a gurgle-gurgle, but what appeared in Bai Lang's mind was a big mouth chewing meat and bone together. 'Eating meat isn't strange; the problem is this aura is kinda weird.' The aura in this building is extremely twisted even in this world. 'Maybe this is the place to break through?' Bai Lang made up his mind and walked toward that small building.
For Bai Lang, the gate and wall were useless; he easily leapt over the gate and arrived at the Western-style building's entrance—given his stealth ability, of course he just pushed the door open. 'Sneaking around, what's the point!' He entered the private residence with domineering aura, glanced around and saw nothing abnormal. 'But what's up with this house? It's filthy. Look, the wall is still leaking.' Bai Lang didn't even want to touch it; whatever was seeping from the wall must be bloody water.
But it was also too viscous, like ketchup, Bai Lang wouldn't go up to touch and lick it. After the bloody water seeped out, it gradually turned dark red, looking extremely disgusting, and a foul smell permeated the house; Bai Lang knew this was the stench of corpses and the fishy odor of fresh corpses after being cut open and dumped in water. 'Murder scene? Serial killing?' The first floor had nothing, the second floor was the source of the sound.
Bai Lang's pushing open the door made a noticeable noise, but it seemed to elicit no response; the sound on the second floor was unchanged. Bai Lang heard an indistinct murmuring, like a needle trying to pierce his consciousness. As an Innate Expert, his protective aura guarded him, plus he imagined a white tiger roaring, so these things couldn't get in. 'Not something good.' Bai Lang looked around; in the darkness something was wriggling.
When Bai Lang looked closely, however, there was nothing; he ignored those cowards and went up the stairs to the second floor. The chewing sound never stopped; as soon as he arrived, he saw the source—a fresh corpse, its belly ripped open, gnawed until incomplete. There were more than one; scattered across the second floor were several corpses of varying times of death, some already shriveled, blackened, and oozing a foul stench.
But the man-eating thing was gone, the chewing sound continued yet nothing making the sound could be seen. Bai Lang stood in the foul air, his brows furrowed as he carefully surveyed the surroundings, and a whirlwind had already formed around him; unfortunately the whole building was filled with stench, so it couldn't be blown away. These whirlwinds now just circled Bai Lang; if anything wanted to launch an attack, the whirlwind would directly turn into chaotic wind blades.
Beside that fresh corpse, Bai Lang saw a pair of shoes, a pair of high-heeled shoes. The high-heels were very new, clean and out of place in this setting; then Bai Lang also saw a pair of silk gloves on the corpse, as if the hands were propping up the corpse at both ends. At the same moment Bai Lang was looking at this, footsteps came from the stairs behind him—slow, hesitant, yet quite heavy.
Although the wind could inform Bai Lang of events within a several-zhang radius in all directions, this person's habit still made him turn his head to look. On the stairs was a pair of shoes, one above the other fixed on the steps; when he turned his head again, he found the shoes before the corpse had shifted position, and the gloves were gone. Bai Lang laughed, trying not to open his mouth lest the nasty stench rush in, he extended one hand, and the whirlwind turned on his palm with a woo-woo sound.
'Invisible?' Bai Lang muttered, gathering his true qi to his eyes, but still couldn't see it. It seems without any special pupil technique, Bai Lang cannot see these 'intangible things.' His spiritual sense tells him there is definitely something before and behind him, only his eyes can't perceive it. The whirlwind on Bai Lang's palm vanished, and his true qi directly projected his protective aura outward, mobilizing the surrounding wind to push out, encompassing the entire second floor and the space above and below within the wind's range.
The wind blew chaotically, tugging at the clothes on those corpses back and forth, 'Ha, still can't find anything?' Inside Bai Lang's wind circle there was still nothing. The upper limit of this world exceeds Bai Lang's, so now it gives this Innate Expert a setback. When he wasn't looking behind him, footsteps sounded and gradually approached. Bai Lang took a sideways step, turned ninety degrees—this way, whether on the stairs or beside the corpses, everything ended up in front of him.
As a result, the pat-pat footsteps continued to come from behind.
The footsteps drew ever closer, yet Bai Lang still detected nothing; he scratched his chin, 'I've underestimated the heroes of the world!' He had no desire to test whether his Golden Bell Shield could block the attack that might come—these bizarre things before him, just thinking about them shows they're ill-intentioned. Bai Lang gave a soft shout, casually lifted his palm, and a tornado appeared out of thin air, booming as it tore open the ceiling.
But the next moment the ceiling seemed to reverse time and restored itself. Bai Lang didn't believe it; he flipped his palm and struck downward, this time drilling a large hole from outside to inside the roof, yet the next moment it returned to its original state. 'Oh ho! Has it become an abnormal space?' Bai Lang also found it a bit tricky, so he launched an attack toward where the high-heeled shoes were. Bai Lang's movement stirred up a gale, and he lashed out with a claw.
About as he had estimated, this claw grasped at empty air—above the shoe might be the torso's part, empty; Bai Lang's claw, imbued with the force of Southern Dipper White Tiger Fist, contacted nothing. The footsteps behind him grew urgent and swift, and after Bai Lang's body passed over the high-heeled shoes, it was as if the shoes were equally behind him. Sure enough, two wind sounds came. Bai Lang felt an impact on his back and waist.
The Golden Bell Shield's protective aura burst forth, but the bronze bell, just as it lit up, was directly shattered into two large holes; Bai Lang's flesh at those spots sank inward, then rebounded. Even so, those spots retained purplish-black claw marks. Bai Lang circulated his qi to dispel the yin cold that had seeped into his body, 'If my Golden Bell Shield weren't already protecting my innards, this blow would have pierced my lungs and kidneys.'
But there was also a benefit: the length of silk glove in Bai Lang's eyes began to burn, a sharp cry echoing on the second floor. 'The Golden Bell Shield's pure yang recoil force! Is that the only moment one can counterattack?' Bai Lang said, 'What kind of ghostly thing is this exactly? Fortunately, as an Innate Expert, I cannot be directly penetrated; if it were just any ordinary person, they'd probably already be a corpse.'
Having suffered a move and knowing what it was, Bai Lang also relaxed a bit; he let out a tiger roar, and immediately an armored white tiger phantom formed, enveloping him; then the white tiger stood upright on two legs, Bai Lang's palms became the white tiger's palms, wildly sweeping and stabbing in all directions, numerous qi blades lashing out like gusts of wind. 'Take one of my moves!'
