Chapter 235: Sudden Brawl
As for this steam shark kind of goods, it's really hard to say what place is valuable—looking at it, the whole body should be valuable, but who let Bai Lang only have a handcart and no storage ring or such treasures? This world also doesn't sell spatial backpacks, so forget it. Such a big lump, even if you win, it's hard to carry.
Bai Lang tapped his toes on the ground, and in a few steps reached the hard ground where the handcart was placed far away, pulling the handcart to leave. But the shark didn't give up; its huge shark fin protruded from the ground and rushed at Bai Lang violently, ending with a great tremor of the earth—under Bai Lang's feet was not a 'sea' made of pebbles, but solid ground, and the shark must have slammed hard into the 'shore'; Bai Lang watched the shark fin disappear into the ground, and it never reappeared for a long time.
"Is it dead? Not likely." Bai Lang dragged the cart away, leaving the shark to be dealt with by someone who cared. He touched the Yu Yu on his chest and discovered that, without realizing it, the Yu Yu had become even more lively.
It was already late; Bai Lang found a flat spot and directly pitched his tent. This triangular tent could only fit one person inside—someone as grown as Bai Lang probably still had to curl up to sleep, otherwise his head or feet would stick out of the tent. Moreover, the thin mat could hardly block the cold from the ground—this place is relatively very dry, so the day-night temperature difference is huge.
Bai Lang had long been immune to cold and heat; an ordinary person could freeze to death in his place. This tent only blocks wind, it cannot stop the cold. So one must make a fire, but without a windbreak, even a lit fire would be blown out. Bai Lang set up the tent, then sat inside wrapped in his sleeping bag, circulating his internal force through the night.
His surface temperature matched the outside, but the true qi drove his blood throughout the body, preventing death from cold—if this world weren't twisted, Bai Lang could simply extend his gang qi outward to keep a three-foot radius warm like spring.
That night no monsters appeared; it seems even in this steam land, the density of those monsters is still not high.
Just after packing up the next day, Bai Lang basically ran straight into a pile of monsters. They were like spider-shaped steam machines, over a person tall, with huge crushing mouthparts, plus saws and hammers on their movable hydraulic arms. Their bellies were large cargo bins, half-filled with scrap steel.
Looks like these are the wilderness's cleaners. The spider-like machines had four heads, but seeing Bai Lang they didn't rush to attack; instead they carefully hid to the side. "These creatures' combat strength should be above ants', if we call these metal things 'creatures'." Bai Lang pressed deeper, and he also saw ahead those steam-rolling trucks coming in groups.
Fighting the trucks were steam toilets, with bodies roughly like ordinary toilets that Bai Lang had seen in the city. There were three of them: two held long weapons, one held twin blades. These toilets weren't fast, but their moves inflicted heavy damage on the trucks.
"Splitting bullets with a knife, using the blunt side of an axe-spear to block bullets is fine enough. This one slash just split the metal truck open...... Is the output of this steam armor really that great?" Bai Lang watched all this, feeling the twisted alienation, as if this steam armor had a special bonus.
Steam machines all have bonuses; correspondingly Bai Lang also sensed the slight distortion of the steam trucks—far less than that of the steam toilets. He watched these steam armors quickly chop up the trucks before him, then tossed all usable scraps from the wreckage onto a nearby steam wagon, after which he continued deeper inside.
Those spiders scurried over to the remaining truck wreckage, dumping the fragments into their own cargo bins. Bai Lang looked at the scene, arms crossed, feeling utterly speechless. "I can't truly merge into this world, or else I'd get twisted. If that's the case, I won't be able to run away."
Bai Lang startled, without a word he grabbed the handcart and ran.
He returned to the outpost, selling the loot from the ants he'd killed on the road...... Indeed, just as he had guessed, the shopkeeper in the equipment store was no longer a mongrel dog but a speaking five-drawer chest, its two lock holes probably eyes, the voice coming from inside the drawers...... Bai Lang couldn't tell whether this was natural distortion or the distortion he'd imagined—because he really had wondered if furniture could become 'living things'.
When he went out, a stool walked on its four legs, two revolvers hanging from its backrest. Bai Lang glanced at the tavern and saw someone sitting motionless on a person made into a chair. On the road there were people and animals walking, and of course furniture or other things walking as well......
The increasingly twisted world made Bai Lang feel he should hurry elsewhere.
When he returned to that city, he found it unexpectedly 'normal': people were people, animals were animals, furniture was furniture. Bai Lang still had money in his pocket, so he stayed at an inn and seriously pondered: 'What on earth is this world? Why is it so normal here?' He had an idea, but couldn't verify it.
The Yu Yu on his person, however, became ever more lustrous.
After spending the night, the next day Bai Lang had just stepped outside when a man fell from the sky and appeared before him. This man was also tall and sturdy, but there wasn't a single hair on his head that was shining—actually, it wasn't that he had no hair; rather, only a little hair grew at the crown, braided into a small plait. His body wore only a pair of pants, his bare upper body oily and shining with developed muscles—truly a fine brother.
This man also had an air of intellectual philosophy, making Bai Lang think he'd soon say something about playing games or the like. The man looked at Bai Lang; though their heights were similar, it gave Bai Lang no sense of oppression, nor would Bai Lang be intimidated. "Are you with them?!"
The man's words left Bai Lang completely bewildered: "What person? What gang? Can't be bothered with you!" The man seemed not to need Bai Lang's answer at all, and threw a punch straight away.
That punch looked ordinary, but Bai Lang's pupils contracted sharply: "The force of this punch is completely gathered, only exploding at the moment of impact! I didn't expect this world's martial arts to have such masters!" This is pure external martial arts; as an external expert Bai Lang naturally knew exactly how formidable this punch was.
This was a level he might not always be able to maintain; the guy before him was pure and refined, and the power of this punch truly left Bai Lang in awe.
