Chapter 244: Return

~7 min read 1,237 words

Bai Lang almost blurted, "I last saw you weren't a black-haired baboon great monster, huh?" Saying that would likely get him killed outright. Fortunately, his strong self-control kept his tongue in check at the moment he was about to blurt it out—this isn't his fault; anyone who imagined that monstrous baboon capable of opposing the Spirit Mountain Tathagata Old Buddha, turning human and even becoming a mighty demon, would probably shout in surprise.

But that said, what to shout is quite particular—shouting well earns a reward, shouting poorly gets you killed outright. Looking at this baboon's arrogant, overbearing, unruly demeanor, it's hard to say what kind of temperament it has. In any case, showing weakness first is correct, especially since the other party is likely the lifesaver who fished Bai Lang out of that broken Adventure Hall and brought him back to this world. Although Bai Lang is often thick-headed, he was still being careful here.

"Could it not be the one who once fought Spirit Mountain and swept aside the Tathagata?" Bai Lang said cautiously. The Mighty Demon's brow twitched, and he gave Bai Lang a disdainful glance, "You brat, even if you recognize me, it's fine to call me a monster. But to speak like that—utterly vulgar and inhumane!" Bai Lang was speechless; he really didn't know that the demon's words were so refined, and he had no idea how to speak the normal language that such a monster's ear expects.

"If I said you weren't a baboon monster, damn it—I'd probably be screwed!" Bai Lang thought to himself, but for now he could only force a smile. Zhou Shubi looked at Bai Lang lying on the ground and said, "You kid are lucky; luckily I remembered you while smashing the stall and fished you out—by now you might already be a pile of shit." After saying that, the baboon shifted from a ruffian's squat to sitting cross-legged on the ground, his hand reaching behind his head to scratch.

Bai Lang circulated his qi throughout his body, checking where he was hurt. "Don't worry, it's just a minor side effect of forcibly traveling through time and space. Your body has been washed with the blood of the Green Lion—this is far stronger than a Western dragon-blood bath—so rest assured you won't die or be paralyzed; at most it'll take half an hour and you'll be fine. As for now, just stay paralyzed." The baboon's arrogant expression faded, replaced by a mocking one: "I hope you haven't stored up anything in your gut, otherwise you won't be able to control your bowels."

Bai Lang realized the monster had no intention of saying anything else, so he might as well listen quietly—Zhou Shubi didn't introduce himself to Bai Lang; he just gazed at the glowing mist above and said, "That damn hall I smashed up good, though it seems indestructible—behind it a bunch of trash are meddling, and I only hit it because it happened to include a share of the Tathagata. Now it looks like you've escaped from it, which is worth celebrating."

The baboon looked at Bai Lang again, his smile turning into a strange expression: "Well, never mind whether it's worth celebrating... heh, heh heh, yeah, a big shot can always toy with people. Forget it! Kid, do as you wish—I wish you luck, old master I'm off!" Zhou Shubi rose to his feet, his joints cracking loudly, "Train those arts well!" Having said that, the baboon turned into a black gust and vanished.

Bai Lang could now barely move his fingers, but that was enough. He flicked his fingers downward, releasing internal force that shook the earth, instantly jerking his own body upright. Now Bai Lang relied on the wind generated from his two fingertips to steady himself and turn a circle. He realized this was simply a ruined Adventure Hall. More than half the roof was gone, the walls were riddled with holes, and the wall that had been connected to the missing roof naturally disappeared as well.

The foundation was still fairly intact, but the gold tiles laid on top were all shattered; some pillars remained whole, others were only half left. Surprisingly, a screen still stood inside the hall, though the other gold‑bead decorations were mostly destroyed. The luminous jade platform in the center of the hall naturally turned into broken stone, suggesting at least that the master behind this Adventure Hall had no intention of repairing it.

Bai Lang stood there, and as time passed his neck and hands regained movement, just as the baboon monster had said—half an hour later his whole body was back to normal. He was sore all over, and only the circulation of his true qi began to ease the pain. Looking at the ruined Adventure Hall, he confirmed it was a waste with nothing salvageable, and now faced the dilemma—how to leave? Previously, entering the Adventure World required only stepping out; now how should he go? Or should he just stay as before?

All he could do now was trust that baboon big shot. Bai Lang moved his limbs a bit and muttered a few indistinct sounds—he himself didn't even know what he was saying. Anyway, given the baboon big shot's demeanor, muttering "Buddha bless you" would be useless; he could only grunt a few times and then stride forward resolutely. Once he stepped out, there was no turning back, for as soon as Bai Lang's feet left, the Adventure Hall behind him collapsed and vanished.

He took a few steps forward, the mist gradually cleared, and Bai Lang found himself back in the rear courtyard of the Mountain God Temple. Feeling the pure, undistorted heavenly earth qi, the abundant energy moved him deeply. "At last I'm back!" He stretched his limbs, had no desire to do anything else, and only wanted to get a good sleep before speaking further.

After waking and before training, Bai Lang naturally wondered how his Adventure Hall comrades were faring—they hadn't made the Human Ranking of 108 Stars, so it was hard to say how they were. The new list hadn't been released yet, and Bai Lang didn't know whether they were dead or what. This change in the Adventure Hall might well be because, after his previous encounter with that baboon monster, the master behind the hall began to look at him differently...

Fortunately he had disposed of that ghost head.

Bai Lang felt an indescribable sense of ease, as if his martial arts had suddenly improved greatly—though that was an illusion. But he was definitely in the mood to study the secret manual he had taken from that man wearing only a pair of pants, the so‑called Turtle Immortal Flow Saiyan Training Secret Manual. Bai Lang first practiced his own Southern Dipper White Tiger Fist, then opened the manual and began to follow its instructions earnestly.

Carrying weight posed no problem; even without channeling true qi, Bai Lang's flesh could bear up to a ton—he had long since trained to the strength of several tigers. Where would he find the weight for such loading? Probably he'd have to seek out some miraculous metal—this world does have metal the size of a fist that weighs a thousand catties...... Failing that, he might really need to haul a small mountain for training, but beforehand Bai Lang could first try using the "qi" described later in the manual.
