Chapter 454: Wallet
Bai Lang rode Dio while moving, and Dio's massive body could actually move along the tree branches, yet it was very light—completely unscientific but very magical. He was about twenty meters away from Harry and the others, and those three guys didn't notice him at all. In the darkness, Bai Lang and Dio both twitched their ears and instantly shifted position. They found the mobile wallet.
It was a spider as big as a calf, its huge poisonous claws clicking, and this spider probably also spotted Harry and the others, but it didn't notice that a new enemy was already above its head—Bai Lang thought Dio's size was too large; approaching from above would block the moonlight and alert the big spider, so he set Dio down and moved silently on the branch himself. In the next instant, the spider's bull‑sized head had already been removed.
"This thing is really useful," Bai Lang said, having just waved his wand and with a single strike removed the spider's head—though it looked like a stick, at that speed it was no different from a blade. Of course the spider's thorax and abdomen were ruined, which was unavoidable. Dio's expression was very human‑like, frowning and flaring his nostrils, apparently thinking the spider was definitely not tasty. "I increasingly think you're probably a man‑faced lion‑bodied scorpion‑tailed beast—Manticore, that expression a lion couldn't make."
Bai Lang recalled a guy named Vincent who lived in the sewers, whose face was a bit like Dio's now. Bai Lang tapped the poisonous claws with his wand, and the thing instantly fell off into two small leather pouches—just like before. "There are at least a hundred of these mobile wallets in the Forbidden Forest; if we work a bit harder today, getting thirty to fifty will be fine," Bai Lang said, wiggling his fingers, the flow of gold Galleons in his mind making him very happy.
"The mobile wallet is indeed useful, but I must remind you, Harry Potter and the others were attacked by a spider..." Dio said from above. "Aha! So they're about to reach the spider's lair? How about we follow the scent and catch up? We're getting rich! Think of the book I studied on how to preserve venom long‑term—that's exactly what we need now." Bai Lang leapt joyfully, riding on Dio and urging it to move quickly.
The huge beast sped through the forest. "Hey? I'm asking, Dio, are you constantly shrinking? Getting smaller?" Bai Lang thought Dio seemed to be visibly shrinking, going from the size of an Asian elephant to the size of a white rhinoceros in an instant. "Oh, I feel my power increasing," Dio whispered back, apparently a pre‑mature concentration, like that Hyena. Relying on his sense of smell, Dio raced through the woods toward the spider's nest.
When they saw hundreds of spiders larger than horses encircling them, Harry and the others had asked all the questions they could. The old spider named Alagok, bound by a promise to Haige not to eat humans, would not stop its offspring from devouring Harry and the others... Though Bai Lang, upon hearing this, also wondered whether Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger together could muster a hundred and fifty pounds of meat. It seemed even that wouldn't fill the spiders' jaws.
As the three were surrounded and despaired, accompanied by a cheerful "Aha!" a golden‑radiant, power‑beautiful beast descended from the sky, and a person leapt off its back. "You? Ron!" Harry shouted, "Dio! Take those three..." Bai Lang paused, "And that dog, Yaya, take it! Don't worry about me, it's all damn mobile wallets! I'm getting so hyped!"
Bai Lang drew his wand, sweeping both hands forward and raising it level, the original disguise vanished, revealing a warm ivory‑yellow shaft. With a flick of his palm, the duck‑egg‑sized yellow "amber" at the tip, patterned like a snake's pupil, suddenly opened as if alive. Dio had already lowered his head and taken a few bites, flinging Harry's trio and Yaya onto his back, then spread his wings to take off.
The spiders were about to pounce, but Bai Lang halted his wand, and a burst of yellow light flashed out, causing the spiders to retreat wildly, some of the tiny ones even petrifying outright. "So this is it? Fear? Petrification? Area attack," Bai Lang nodded and acted. Thus, with Harry and the others perched on Dio's back, they saw a human silhouette moving like the wind, smashing one massive, horse‑sized spider after another with his wand.
"Don't worry, he's confident. These spiders can be killed with a single wand strike; they're really fragile—just avoid being ambushed," a voice said. "Can you speak?" Harry and the others shouted in unison, obviously astonished—after a spider speaking, they hadn't expected this lion to speak too; it was just too magical.
Dio didn't answer their questions, but spread his wings and flew through the night sky, soon exiting the Forbidden Forest and landing in front of Haige's cottage. "Go, hurry back," Dio said, and Harry thanked him, while Hermione buried her head in Dio's brown‑black lion mane—no rescue for the cat. Dio shook his head, pulling the mane from Hermione's grasp, then thrust his hind legs and leapt again into the gale.
"Can he really handle it?" Ron said, and Harry, from somewhere, added, "Sure, but we have things we need to do."
Bai Lang slayed those terrified spiders with ease, and his speed at clicking his wand to collect loot was also swift—before Dio returned, he had already killed forty‑five horse‑sized spiders and harvested their venom sacs. The other spiders fled, and before the carriage‑sized old spider emerged, Bai Lang rode the returning Dio away. "Now we're rich; forty‑five pairs of venom sacs, by the ounce, could fetch tens of thousands of Galleons, huh? We're made!"
It was indeed profitable, so the question arose... "How wealthy is a family like Malfoy?" Bai Lang recalled the books and movies, noting that even the Potters' vault only held about that many Galleons. With that much venom, selling it is a problem—especially market capacity; dumping it all at once would ruin the market, so it must be done slowly. In that case, Bai Lang would have to travel everywhere, dispersing sales to the global market.
Bai Lang kept Dio hidden in the Forbidden Forest, and he hurried back to the dormitory—to process the venom before it spoiled. Meanwhile, Harry and the others in the common room breathed a sigh of relief when Bai Lang arrived; Ron patted Bai Lang's arm, "Your strength is amazing, man." Bai Lang smiled, "If you weren't so nervous, you could also use magic to drive these spiders away."
