Chapter 302: Visitors from the Capital
Su Ruo looked at Song Jingyu with a smile on her face, knowing he was a good person and would surely win the affection of Li Zhaodi and An'an.
However, Su Ruo was a little worried, wondering how to tell Li Zhaodi and the others that she wanted to get married.
Li Zhaodi was fine; the main concern was An'an and Qin Xiao—she still hoped that before her own marriage, she could let the two children have more contact with Song Jingyu to avoid them being too resistant.
But Su Ruo didn't dwell on it for long, for shortly after she made her decision, Li Zhaodi and Bai Xinya actually came with the two children.
Upon seeing them, Su Ruo's eyes instantly lit up with delight; An'an immediately lunged into her embrace, saying, "Mom, I've missed you so much."
After not seeing the little girl for a few months, she seemed to have grown taller and become even prettier.
Qin Xiao stood behind An'an, posing like a little adult, but his gaze toward Su Ruo shone remarkably bright; as they say, boys shoot up faster than girls, and in just a few months Qin Xiao's height had already surpassed An'an, his handsome little face already showing a hint of the cute little boy look.
Li Zhaodi and Bai Xinya stood behind the two children, looking at Su Ruo with smiling eyes.
"How did you come?" Su Ruo asked, holding An'an and looking at them with surprise and delight.
Li Zhaodi immediately teased, saying, "What are you talking about! Master, you just abandoned the factory and us and left, and you've been gone for months without a word—don't you know how much we've missed you?"
Li Zhaodi already bore a hint of a strong woman's aura, but seeing Su Ruo, she couldn't help wanting to act coquettish—only in front of Su Ruo did she show her childish side.
Su Ruo took An'an's hand and walked over, gently patting Li Zhaodi's shoulder and saying, "I believe you can do it well."
Li Zhaodi's face immediately showed a hint of pride, she lightly lifted her head: "Of course, I am indeed the master's outstanding disciple."
Bai Xinya also smiled and said, "Don't worry! Everything at home is fine."
Su Ruo gave Bai Xinya a grateful look; if Bai Xinya hadn't helped her take care of the two children, she wouldn't be able to do as she pleased now, pursuing what she likes.
As a mother, she indeed falls short of Bai Xinya.
"Alright, you've worked hard coming all this way—let's go eat first!"
Only then did Su Ruo notice Song Jingyu standing behind the group.
She asked in surprise, "Was it you who brought them over?"
Only then did Su Ruo realize that the island was heavily guarded, especially since this was a military district; without someone to meet them, Li Zhaodi and the others couldn't have gotten in on their own.
Song Jingyu gave a slight nod, and Su Ruo felt a surge of emotion; she had never told him her thoughts, but he seemed to have long guessed what she was thinking and, doing his utmost, resolved her worries.
Li Zhaodi's gaze swept over Su Ruo and Song Jingyu, carrying teasing but mostly blessings.
She understood Song Jingyu, knowing he was an upright, idealistic, ambitious, and strongly responsible good person, and knew that if her master married him she would certainly be happy.
In this world, Li Zhaodi wished Su Ruo's happiness more than anyone else; her master was so good that she deserved the best man in the world.
Bai Xinya's gaze toward Song Jingyu held a hint of appreciation; she always had a keen eye for men, knowing Song Jingyu was a fine person who would surely strive to make Su Ruo happy.
Even before coming, the two little ones knew that Su Ruo could marry Song Jingyu; although An'an had known Song Jingyu longer, she felt nothing for him, but she was a total mommy's girl—she liked whatever Su Ruo liked and supported whatever Su Ruo wanted.
As long as Mom can be happy and content, she is willing to do anything.
Among the group, only Qin Xiao, because of their marriage, showed a hint of wariness and hostility toward Song Jingyu.
This feeling was like two males in the animal world vying for dominance, but Qin Xiao was still far too weak; Song Jingyu looked down on him like an adult wolf king gazing at cubs, not taking his faint hostility to heart, and instead, out of affection for the house and its crow (i. e., love me, love my dog), his eyes held a touch more indulgence.
"Let's go! I'm hungry too." After a brief exchange of glances among them, Bai Xinya was the first to speak, breaking the atmosphere in just a few moments.
But just as they were about to leave, they were stopped by a busybody aunt who blurted out, "Doctor Su, this girl just called you Mom—could she be your daughter? I never expected someone so young to have such a grown‑up daughter."
As the woman spoke, her eyes swept over Su Ruo and An'an, full of gossipy gleam.
Everyone knew Su Ruo was dating Song Jingyu; they had assumed she was single, never imagining she had such a grown‑up daughter, and seeing that Song Jingyu apparently knew too, this shocking scandal made them unable to resist curiosity.
The people around could not contain their excited feelings, all staring intently at Su Ruo and her group.
They also wondered how someone as outstanding as Song Jingyu, who wouldn't even take a first wife, could end up choosing Su Ruo, a divorced woman with a child.
Su Ruo and her companions had been so excited just then that they hadn't noticed the surroundings; only now did they notice the woman and the surrounding pairs of gossipy eyes.
Su Ruo looked at these people, her eyes showing a hint of displeasure; she knew that enjoying gossip was human nature, but someone like this woman, directly blocking people's way, was simply lacking in quality and upbringing.
Su Ruo's gaze turned cool; she didn't even know this woman, what relation she and An'an had, whether she had a daughter, or on what grounds she should have to explain herself.
Li Zhaodi and Bai Xinya were also displeased, looking at the woman and the surrounding people; they had thought the local customs were simple and honest, but now it seemed otherwise—really, everywhere there is scheming and intrigue, and Su Ruo here is not always smooth sailing.
