Chapter 124: The Shaken Lion Tribe! Strike Deep into Their Heartland!
The fires across Manshan finally died out.
These fires seemed to have eyes, never burning toward the cat people at all.
How many dog-headed warriors had perished in the flames!
This life-or-death crisis caused the cat people, still far from the City of Miracles, to fully submit to the Lord of Flame!
Every single one had become a devoted believer of the Lord of Flame!
Over a hundred thousand cat people set out again.
Though still exhausted, after witnessing the Lord of Flame's power, their fatigue had lessened considerably.
"Following your current route, you'll pass through the winged people's territory. The winged people never meddle in tribal disputes and maintain peaceful relations with other tribes—you should face little danger now."
Meng Ying said.
"Mm!"
Princess Luodi nodded, then asked: "Sister Meng Ying, are you planning to part ways with us?"
Meng Ying said: "Yes. The lion people may not let this go, so we must create some trouble for them, keeping them too occupied to chase you. Don't worry—the warriors sent to meet you should arrive soon!"
Princess Luodi nodded again.
Meng Ying and the centaur chieftain left with a thousand centaur warriors.
At the cat people's pace, it would take at least four more days to reach the City of Miracles.
But if the lion warriors ran at full speed, they could catch up in less than half a day.
Rather than passively being hunted, it was better to act first—while the lion tribe's main force was chasing the tiger people, their territory had few troops available; we could cause them trouble and keep them too busy to pursue us.
A few hours after the cat people resumed their journey, a five-member lion warrior squad arrived near the plain where the centaurs and lions had fought.
This lion squad had been sent by the lion tribe to investigate the situation!
"I wonder if Chief Rick caught up to the cat people."
One lion warrior said.
"He probably caught them—the cat people move so slowly, dragging their families along. The distance they cover in a day, we can cover in just two or three hours."
Another lion warrior said.
"Mm. With Chief Rick's elite force, the cat people are surely defeated. Let's go see the spectacle."
The lion warriors chatted as they sprinted out of the woods.
But as soon as they emerged from the woods, they saw something on the plain.
"What is that?"
Due to the distance and the tall grass, they couldn't make it out yet.
The squad sprinted forward quickly.
"Heavens!"
One lion warrior screamed!
For they saw, in the center of the plain, countless lion warrior corpses!
"Heavens, these are Chief Rick's troops!"
Another lion warrior recognized the corpses.
The bodies were arranged almost in a straight line.
The line stretched over a thousand meters!
"Quick, check if Chief Rick is among them!"
One lion warrior cried.
The lion warriors followed the line of corpses, searching—but found no trace of Chief Rick.
"Chief Rick probably escaped. Look—the wounds on these bodies are few, but each is devastating. Some shields were pierced, then their bodies run through; bones are shattered, likely from massive impacts. The battle couldn't have lasted long—our warriors were slaughtered en masse!"
One lion warrior analyzed.
"It must've been the centaurs! Look at these footprints!"
A lion warrior crouched on the ground said.
"Centaurs? Can they be this strong?"
"Maybe they had great numbers."
"Mm! Who'd have thought the centaurs would dare interfere in the cat people's affairs—and openly kill so many of our warriors? They're asking for death!"
As the lion warriors spoke, they reached the other side of the small plain and saw a patch of ground glowing with red magma.
"This is…"
One lion warrior exclaimed.
"Magic—this is magic! So powerful, it melted the ground!"
Another lion warrior murmured.
"Look! That's Chief Rick's bead!"
At that moment, a lion warrior picked up a bead from the ground not far from the magma.
"Chief Rick!!!"
The lion warriors weren't fools—they all stared at the still-hot magma, exchanging stunned glances.
They already guessed Chief Rick's fate.
Another half-day passed, and the lion warriors finally returned to lion territory.
They carried the news to the Lion Tribe's Wang Cheng.
