Chapter 17: Misty Mountain Range! The Potatoes Are Ripe!
From the cliff, one could look down upon the entire stretch of wasteland.
This wasteland was at least a hundred kilometres long and several dozen kilometres wide.
On one side of the wasteland lay a dense forest — the very forest where the fox clan had previously lived.
On the other side of the wasteland stood a tall mountain, shrouded in a pale yellow mist, as if dust were constantly being kicked up above its peak.
This was the Misty Mountain Range, lying between the orc kingdom and the human world.
This mountain range stretched on for who knew how many kilometres, and within it, Full of Dangers!
The most dangerous thing was still that pale yellow mist — rumoured to be a kind of miasma, and the most dangerous kind at that. Ordinary people who inhaled it would be poisoned, suffering all manner of discomfort, and over time it could even cost them their lives.
It was precisely the existence of the Misty Mountain Range that made the human kingdom on the other side abandon its plan to launch an expedition against the orc kingdom.
The Misty Mountain Range was enough to swallow any great army whole!
Unless the Church was willing to pay any price, using God-granted objects to shelter the army and force a passage through the Misty Mountain Range.
But even if they could force their way through, reaching the orc kingdom would still require passing through many dense forests.
Within those dense forests, the orcs' combat ability was nothing to scoff at. That human kingdom, unless it allied with other kingdoms for a joint expedition, could not, on its own, stand up to the massive orc kingdom in a head-on clash!
But human kingdoms that worshipped different gods joining forces… that was something one could only dream about.
"The moisture in the air is still very heavy; the water content in the forest is not small."
On the cliff, Lin Yan murmured.
His next target was not the forest where the fox clan resided.
It was the Misty Mountain Range on the other side.
But the heavy rain had only just passed, and the moisture in the woods of the Misty Mountain Range was too thick, the water content too heavy.
Burning a forest was not the same as burning that First Rank giant bear.
The First Rank giant bear had abundant energy within its body; even burning it in the rain would yield more than it cost.
But burning a forest with such heavy moisture would mean spending more than one gained — the loss would outweigh the gain!
In truth, the energy points gained from burning plants were not many.
Still, Lin Yan was currently in the accumulation phase of energy points, still in a developmental stage, so Lin Yan decided to wait until the moisture in the Misty Mountain Range dispersed somewhat, then set one entire face of the Misty Mountain Range ablaze and turn it into his energy points!
At the edge of the wasteland, every member of the fox clan had been mobilised, continuously reclaiming wasteland.
There were also large numbers of fox-folk searching the forest for more potatoes.
At the edge of the wasteland, a bonfire had been lit.
Several fox-folk kept chopping firewood in the forest to keep this bonfire from going out.
This bonfire had been lit at the Holy Maiden's instruction.
No one knew that Lin Yan had already arrived within this bonfire.
With fox-folk searching for firewood to burn, Lin Yan prepared to wait here for the moisture in the Misty Mountain Range to dissipate.
Within this bonfire, he could still harvest several energy points every second.
Beside the fire, the fox woman Sister Qing Ling kept personally planting the potatoes the fox-folk had found, then using magic to hasten their growth.
This process was also one in which she continually grew more familiar with her magic.
Lin Yan placed considerable importance on his first Holy Maiden; whenever her magic was exhausted, the Linyanjiu Society would replenish it for her.
Her command of magic grew increasingly proficient.
That night, Lin Yan once again activated the "Blessing" of the virtual divine spark, enhancing her sensitivity to and comprehension of magic.
The fox woman Sister Qing Ling was overjoyed, barely sleeping the entire night, devoting all her time to meditation.
Early the next morning, the fox woman Sister Qing Ling was still in fine spirits.
She arrived early at the very first potato she had planted.
The fox clan chieftain and the other fox-folk had also all come.
"It should be ripe by now."
The fox woman Sister Qing Ling placed her hand on the soil to sense it, and said.
Then, she reached out and carefully brushed the soil aside.
Beneath lay a large cluster of egg-sized potatoes.
"So many!"
The fox woman Sister Qing Ling exclaimed.
She lifted this cluster of potatoes and counted — there were a full fifteen of them!
The smallest of these potatoes was already egg-sized.
The largest was even bigger than a goose egg.
"My heavens!"
The surrounding fox-folk let out wave after wave of amazed cries.
