Chapter 9

~3 min read 508 words

Recalling what they had just witnessed, they suddenly understood why the eternally verdant wasteland had burned for three days and three nights!

"Let's go, report this back!"

A fox-woman said.

This group of fox-folk traveled back along the route they had come, and after no small amount of time, returned to their tribe.

This tribe was not small, with many fox-folk; they had been spotted by that First Rank giant bear when they were out, chased all the way, and in their desperate flight had fled headlong to the vicinity of Lin Yan.

This group of fox-folk quickly found the fox-folk chieftain.

"Mother, we just saw a deity!"

Among this group of fox-folk, a young and beautiful fox-woman stepped forward and said to the fox-folk chieftain.

"What? A deity? Are you telling the truth?"

The fox-folk chieftain asked.

The young fox-woman recounted everything she had seen and her speculations one by one.

"Take me to see."

The fox-folk chieftain Showed a Solemn Expression in her eyes, and hurried to the scene that very night.

"There are no traces of magic power, so it wasn't done by a mage; nor is there any fluctuation of fighting energy, so it wasn't a knight either. A ball of flame that could burn in a rainy night, a ball of flame that burned the entire wasteland — oh heavens, he really might be a deity!"

After the fox-folk chieftain personally inspected the scene, her expression grew even more Solemn.

On the way back, the fox-folk chieftain did not say a single word.

But that very night, within the fox-folk tribe, a simple temple was erected at the fastest possible speed.

On the altar within the temple, a symbol of flame stood out especially vivid.

This fox-folk tribe was actually planning to worship the god of flame — the flame that had burned the entire wasteland, and burned that giant bear on a rainy night!

And when the sky was just beginning to brighten, the fox-folk chieftain's daughter, that young fox-woman, put on a simple white robe and walked into that temple.

"Mother, I am willing to become the Holy Maiden, to serve the deity forever, and to forever keep a body of purity for the deity!"

The young fox-woman's face was hidden beneath a veil as she gazed at the flame symbol on the altar and spoke.

As the deity's Holy Maiden, not only must she forever keep a body of purity for the deity, even her face could not be shown to others!

The fox-folk chieftain grasped her hand, took out a small knife, and lightly pricked her finger; a drop of blood fell out.

"We were cast out of the main clan and came to this remote place; no deity has been willing to favor us. Whether this deity will answer us, whether he truly is a deity, and whether he is willing to favor us — we will know very soon."

After the fox-folk chieftain finished speaking, she placed that drop of the young fox-woman's blood onto the altar.
