Chapter 19: Cana
Kiria's return made Fairy Tail lively again.
This nearly forty-year-old man truly gets along well with the children, and he especially clicks with Natsu.
After being knocked out cold by Kiria’s punch, Natsu clung to him, hoping to receive his guidance.
Kiria didn’t refuse; after completing Mo En’s daily training, he would still set aside time to teach Natsu.
The two got along perfectly, looking like a real father and son.
Mo En guessed that Natsu felt paternal care from Kiria, and having just lost his “father,” he naturally clung to Kiria.
Unconsciously, Mo En accepted the idea that Natsu’s father was a fire dragon, but he still believed Natsu had been found by the dragon, not born to it.
“Mo En, today is still a great day!”
In the main hall of the Fairy Tail guild, Cana blinked her big eyes, holding tarot cards with serious expression.
But her words made Mo En’s expression twist strangely.
“Cana, I’m not doubting your divination skills, but… can anyone really have good fortune every single day of the year?”
Mo En smirked, hesitating to speak—was it just 365 days?
Since Cana began learning divination, his fortune readings from her had never been anything less than “Good,” and the worst was always “Minor Good!”
Is this… right?
“Of course it exists! Aren’t Itachi the one?”
Cana spoke firmly, then hurriedly gathered her tarot cards.
“But Itachi’ve never given anyone else readings like this?”
Mo En stared at Cana, still looking odd; at first he hadn’t noticed, but over time, even his sluggish mind sensed something was off.
“Mo En, Itachi’re different from others.”
Cana tucked away the cards and whispered softly; facing Mo En’s doubts about her divination, she seemed anxious, cheeks flushed, and after saying this, her face turned even redder.
“Please believe in my divination skills!”
Before Mo En could speak, Cana rushed to add, her voice louder, almost sounding angry.
“Alright, alright, of course I believe in your skills.”
Mo En immediately dropped the subject—girls’ minds are hard to guess, and little girls are no different; their thinking is utterly unlike yours.
“Cana, are Itachi going to find Kiria and the others?”
Mo En wisely changed the topic, no longer dwelling on fortune.
He asked because Cana had already packed up, looking ready to leave, and Kiria had just taken several children outside—likely to play in the forest beyond town.
“No, I’m going back to the dorm.”
Cana shook her head, her cheeks still flushed, looking adorable.
“Huh? Going back so early?”
Mo En looked surprised—why leave right after arriving so early in the morning?
“I have a mission today; I’ll depart directly from the dorm.”
Cana explained; if she had no tasks, she’d stay at the guild—she loved its lively atmosphere.
“What mission? Just Itachi?”
Mo En nodded, curious.
“No, Reby and Erza too. Erza didn’t say what it is—she invited the two of us.”
Cana shook her head; she didn’t know the mission details, but with Erza involved, no matter what it was, it would be fine.
“Oh, then goodbye, good luck with your mission.”
Mo En smiled and bid Cana farewell; he shared the same thought—if Erza was coming along, there was nothing to worry about.
Reby and Cana both knew magic; though they weren’t yet skilled in combat and still needed training, with Erza added, their team’s strength couldn’t be underestimated.
They all trusted Erza’s power; if it were just Reby and Cana, Mo En would have been concerned.
‘So even though she had a mission, Cana still came to the guild early just to read my fortune?’
Watching Cana trot out of the guild, Mo En paused, suddenly realizing this.
Whenever Mo En was at the guild, Cana came every morning to read his fortune—he’d grown used to it.
Today, despite having a mission, she came specially to read it for him; Mo En couldn’t help but feel touched—little fortune-teller really was diligent.
“This girl Cana should spend more time with Kiria.”
As Mo En mused, a voice suddenly came from beneath the table.
“.”
Seeing the horned jester hat emerge from under the table, Mo En’s lip twitched, his face filled with utter disbelief.
“Grandma Macao, when did Itachi get here?”
Mo En rubbed his temples, swallowing his exasperation—this old child always pulled stunts that left him stunned.
“Ahem, I just arrived.”
Macao coughed lightly; he hadn’t heard any private confessions.
“But Cana doesn’t seem to seek out Kiria much—she just watches quietly from the side.”
Mo En rolled his eyes, then voiced his own observation; it was quite obvious—he’d noticed it before.
As the central figure—no, as the big brother and leader of the children—Mo En paid attention to every child’s emotions.
While everyone excitedly clustered around Kiria, only Cana stood nearby with a complex, hesitant gaze.
“Is there some story behind it?”
Mo En asked curiously; if there was, Grandpa Macao would surely know.
Noticing Mo En’s curious gaze, Macao looked around like a thief; once he confirmed no one was paying attention, the old man crept close to Mo En.
“Kiria was once married.”
Macao whispered, dropping a revelation that made Mo En’s eyes widen in shock.
“Huh?!”
Mo En couldn’t help exclaiming, but Macao instantly clamped a hand over his mouth.
“Shh!”
Macao looked tense, signaling Mo En to stay quiet.
“Don’t shout—few people know this!”
The old man acted furtive, as if this were some shameful secret.
“Wait, what?! Is this real?!”
Mo En stared in disbelief, wondering if Grandpa Macao was joking.
Because the unspoken implication of Macao’s words was that Cana was actually Kiria’s daughter!
