Chapter 58: Mirajane

~6 min read 1,047 words

Over the next few days, Mirajane truly felt the warmth of the Fairy Tail guild.

And this warmth came mostly from that strange girl named Erza.

Walking down the streets of Magnolia, Mirajane suddenly turned around to look behind her; the red-haired girl who had been following her reacted quickly and leapt aside to hide.

「.」

Mirajane opened her mouth to speak, then fell silent, her demon arm clenched tightly into a fist.

At that moment, Mirajane suddenly thought having this power might not be so bad—at least it would be useful when she wanted to hit someone.

“What’s wrong, Mirajane?”

Lisanna, beside her, also glanced curiously behind, but didn’t spot Erza, so she frowned and asked her sister.

“Nothing. Let’s go.”

Mirajane took a deep breath and walked toward the Fairy Tail guild, ignoring that strange girl entirely.

Ever since they left the dormitory, that girl had been following her—every day, whenever she stepped out of the Fairy Tail guildhall or the female dorm, Erza tracked her like a stalker!

Several times, Mirajane had nearly snapped and demanded to know why this weirdo kept following her!

Normally, if Erza wanted to follow, she could just ignore her—but what worried Mirajane was that she’d already decided to leave Fairy Tail, and because of Erza, she’d found no chance to do so.

Mirajane wanted to slip away quietly—not necessarily without a trace, but at least without Lisanna or Elfman finding out.

Erza’s constant following annoyed her deeply, because if Erza found out she planned to leave Fairy Tail, she’d surely tell Lisanna and Elfman.

There was no doubt about it—Lisanna and Elfman had integrated well into the guild, and Erza got along fine with both of them.

“I’ll have to talk to her.”

Mirajane thought to herself; otherwise, with Erza watching her this closely, she’d never get a chance to leave Fairy Tail quietly!

Bringing Lisanna to Fairy Tail, the two met up with Elfman, and Mirajane handed both Lisanna and Elfman over to Mo En—another magic lesson today.

Looking at Mo En’s sunny smile, Mirajane pursed her lips—could he really take good care of Lisanna and Elfman?

“Mirajane, what’s wrong? Do I have something on my face?”

Mo En touched his face and asked; Mirajane had been staring at him so intently he’d grown uncomfortable.

Normally, this girl never even looked people in the eye—suddenly fixating on his face like this, Mo En naturally sensed something was off.

‘Is Mirajane about to leave?’

Mo En studied Mirajane and saw the resolve in her expression.

Mirajane snapped back to herself, her cheeks flushing red; she realized how foolish she’d looked staring at him like that.

“No… nothing.”

Blushing, Mirajane whispered, then turned and walked away, striding quickly out of the guildhall without looking back.

“Mo En-ge.”

Lisanna and Elfman exchanged a glance, then both turned to Mo En—they too sensed something was wrong.

“It’s clear we can’t delay any longer. It’s time for Itachi two to step in.”

Mo En turned his gaze away from Mirajane and smiled at Lisanna and Elfman. Fortunately, these two had worked hard enough—they were ready to be used.

Lisanna had successfully received the “Soul of the Animal: Cat.” This animal’s reception was low in difficulty; she’d completed full-body reception and could now transform into a “Cat Girl.”

Elfman received the “Soul of the Animal: Black Bear.” It was stronger in combat and harder to master; he still couldn’t achieve full-body reception, so he’d only accepted the “Beast’s Arm: Black Bear,” allowing him to turn his arms into black bear limbs.

‘It’s more than enough.’

Mo En was confident—his plan should succeed perfectly.

“What should we do, Mo En-ge?”

Elfman’s expression was eager, but he didn’t act on his own—he kept asking Mo En for guidance. After nearly a month of lessons, this habit had formed.

Elfman’s question made Mo En chuckle—he couldn’t possibly teach them word for word what to say.

“Don’t ask me now. Catch up to her, and tell her your true feelings—tell her what Itachi want to say to your sister. She’ll be moved by your sincerity.”

Looking at Elfman and Lisanna, Mo En gave them sincere encouragement. Everything had been prepared—now, nothing else was needed but to show their true hearts.

“Yes, Mo En-ge! We’ll do our best!”

Elfman and Lisanna exchanged glances, encouraged each other, then ran off together after Mirajane.

Mo En wasn’t worried they’d lose Mirajane—because after she left, Erza had immediately followed.

‘By now, Erza must have already stopped Mirajane.’

Mo En didn’t follow. He’d done everything he could. The rest was up to Erza, Elfman, and Lisanna.

If it worked, great. If not… even if he went along, it wouldn’t help. Some things couldn’t be forced.

On the street, Mirajane walked slowly and glanced back—the Fairy Tail guildhall glowed in the sunlight.

“What a wonderful guild. Elfman and Lisanna will be fine here. They don’t need me anymore.”

Mirajane murmured to herself. This past month had made her grow fond of this place, fond of Fairy Tail.

Though she’d always kept herself at a distance, she could still feel the family-like atmosphere here; seeing the changes in her brother and sister, she knew this was the perfect place for them.

“Magic, demons—this power… I never wanted it! Am I even human anymore? Of course humans would hate me.”

Turning her gaze away from the Fairy Tail guildhall, Mirajane refocused on herself—the insults and revulsion she’d endured because of her demon power surged in her heart, strengthening her resolve to leave.

“Mirajane! Stop!”

Seeing Mirajane like this, Erza finally stopped hiding—she stepped forward and blocked Mirajane’s path.

“What’s wrong with this power? It’s a power that protects your family—why abandon it? Are Itachi afraid it’ll control Itachi?”

Looking at Mirajane, Erza asked seriously.

Erza couldn’t understand: why would Mirajane, who’d used her power to protect her family, want to give it up?

Isn’t it better to have power to protect what Itachi care about?

“Then why do Itachi care about my business?!”

Mirajane lifted her head, glaring at Erza, voicing the questions she’d held back for days—she barely knew this girl at all!
