Chapter 66: Time Magic Book (Seeking First Subscription!)
As for the 【Saints System】’s warning about “not over-communicating,” Mo En wasn’t particularly worried.
Rather than worrying about that, it would be more terrifying to consider the consequences of not sending them back.
“That’s right—Itachi really can’t fool Itachi, Mo En. We’re from the future, from X784. What year is it now?”
After Mo En fully exposed their identity, Erza accepted reality calmly; she no longer felt as tense as before and began regaining some of her “Fairy Queen” poise.
The Erza from X784 was far more imposing, but dressed now in a white catgirl outfit, no amount of dignity could make her seem serious.
“X784? It’s X778 now. Itachi’re from six years in the future.”
Mo En’s expression wasn’t particularly surprised.
He’d guessed the time span wouldn’t exceed ten years—after all, this adult Erza looked quite young, brimming with youthful energy, full of collagen.
“X778? Feels like ages ago. So, has Happy not joined the guild yet?”
Erza recalled past memories and quickly realized this: in X778, Happy hadn’t joined the guild yet—no, actually, Happy was probably born this year!
“Happy? Who’s that? A future guild member?”
Mo En asked casually. The two strangers who had come through time—Lucy had already been met; only Happy remained.
Sounds like a guy—otherwise he wouldn’t be running around causing trouble with Gray and Natsu.
“Can’t say! Itachi’ll meet him soon enough.”
Erza clapped her hand over her mouth, shaking her head firmly, refusing to say more. She confirmed now: Happy hadn’t been born yet.
The “Fairy Queen” silently mourned—before Mo En, even the younger version, she found it hard to stay guarded, sensing she’d keep revealing more if she kept talking.
“No! We must get back quickly!”
Erza firmly resolved in her heart.
“Mo En, can Itachi understand this magic book’s contents? We came back to this time because of this book.”
Erza handed the magic book to Mo En. Since their identity was already exposed, asking for his help didn’t matter anymore.
Though Mo En wasn’t as obsessed with research as Rebey, in Erza’s memory, he was well-read and knowledgeable—he might actually understand this book.
Mo En took the book and opened it. The worn magic book was indeed obscure, its content jumbled and rambling, like a padded thesis with only a few simple truths buried beneath.
“How is it? Can Itachi make sense of it?”
Lucy stared at Mo En expectantly—if they couldn’t crack the book’s mystery, even finding Natsu, Gray, and Happy wouldn’t get them home.
“Yes, but I need time.”
Mo En’s expression turned serious, yet he remained confident—if he could strip away the book’s clutter and distractions, he’d uncover the secret of time travel!
“Great! At least there’s a way!”
Lucy jumped up happily, like a rabbit, her ample figure undulating wildly with every motion.
This blonde woman had an undeniably fiery figure—though Erza beside her wasn’t far behind; both were young, beautiful, and curvaceous.
Unfortunately, Mo En’s attention was entirely fixed on the magic book in his hands—he had no time to admire the view.
At this moment, Mo En’s interest in the magic book surpassed everything else.
This was time magic—capable of returning to the past!
Hearing this, Erza exhaled in relief. With Mo En helping, she felt much lighter, her confidence instantly at maximum.
But she couldn’t leave Mo En alone here. They’d inexplicably traveled back—who knew what other surprises the book might hold? If it randomly sent Mo En away too, things would get far worse.
So Erza decided to stay and help Mo En decipher the book, while Lucy went to find the other three troublemakers.
“Lucy, keep looking for Natsu, Gray, and Happy. I’ll stay with Mo En and try to decode this book.”
Erza said seriously to Lucy.
“Got it! I’m off!”
Lucy agreed immediately without hesitation. Though she wanted to talk more with young Mo En, the situation didn’t allow it.
The bunny-girl Lucy ran off toward the outskirts of Magnolia.
She’d already quickly circled the city—it was time to check outside. She planned to start by the small river; maybe Natsu and Gray were revisiting old haunts.
To that end, she’d specifically asked about the river’s location—in six years, that river had vanished entirely; she had no memory of it ever existing.
“Has Magnolia changed so much in six years?”
After Lucy left, Mo En asked Erza curiously.
“Hmm… yeah, it’s changed a lot. Many old shops have disappeared.”
Erza hesitated slightly, then gave a vague answer. Looking at the youthful, inexperienced young Mo En, she found it impossible to refuse or deceive him.
“If many shops disappeared, wouldn’t Magnolia suffer an economic downturn?”
Mo En frowned, puzzled. Magnolia thrived because of Fairy Tail—every industry was boosted by its presence.
The city had heavy foot traffic and strong economic health; many old shops were nearly as old as Fairy Tail itself—even Master Makarov had patronized them since childhood.
Magnolia had been in constant growth, even expanding outward—how could so many old shops vanish gradually?
This confused Mo En deeply. Had some major catastrophe occurred?
Otherwise, how could genuine century-old shops—deeply woven into citizens’ daily lives—simply fade away?
“Maybe Itachi shouldn’t ask… I’d better not say anything.”
Erza opened her mouth, hesitated, then held back.
She’d wanted to warn Mo En to keep an eye on Natsu and Gray—perhaps then the shops they destroyed might survive. But she wasn’t sure what consequences that might trigger.
“Erza, Itachi’ve already handed me this magic book—what else are Itachi worried about?”
Mo En smiled wryly, holding the book. He could only say: time travel had profoundly affected Erza—this girl kept making blunders in front of him.
“.Ah!”
Mo En’s words snapped her out of it. She looked frustrated.
She’d only thought: since Mo En had already uncovered them, asking for his help was fine—but she’d forgotten that giving this time magic book to young Mo En, letting him master it, might create unpredictable dangers!
Her unconditional trust in Mo En had misled her.
“Don’t worry, Erza. Do Itachi think I’d do something like change the past?”
Mo En smiled, reaching out to stroke the hair of Erza, who was still lying beside him—they’d been hunched together reading the book.
“No. Itachi wouldn’t do that.”
Erza paused, then answered firmly. She didn’t pull away, letting young Mo En stroke her hair.
“Exactly. Why change the past? That would deny who we are now.
Our present self is built from past memories—every moment connects and forms who we are today. Change the past, and are we still us?”
Mo En’s words left Erza momentarily stunned, but they sank deep into her heart, dissolving some of her earlier thoughts.
Who hasn’t wished to change something from the past? But would changing it truly bring a better outcome?
Unclear.
