Chapter 73: The Magical Egg (Requesting Subscriptions!)

~5 min read 977 words

“Huh?!”

After Rebey patiently explained Star Spirit Magic, Mirajane widened her eyes and stared at Mo En, who looked utterly confident.

“So what kind of magic are Itachi actually using, Mo En?”

Mirajane was curious; as someone new to the world of magic, she was eager to learn everything. She had accepted magic, accepted demonic power, and officially stepped into the magical world with her younger siblings—she naturally wanted to understand more about it.

Going on missions meant facing all kinds of dangers; understanding various magics was crucial.

Mirajane already knew Mo En had been attacked by a Dark Guild on a mission, proving just how brazen those Dark Guilds were!

Of course, she also learned that the Dark Guild had been wiped out by “Fairy Tail,” which only confirmed to her that “Fairy Tail” was a good guild—her decision to leave her siblings here hadn’t been made lightly.

“Star Spirit Magic!”

Mo En answered with absolute certainty: as long as he believed he was using Star Spirit Magic, then it was the truest form of Star Spirit Magic!

“Shhh~”

The children let out a chorus of boos—they were no longer magic novices. Even if they hadn’t known the truth at first, they’d since looked it up, and others in the guild had told them—they were no longer easily fooled.

“If I’m strong enough, why can’t I define what ‘Star Spirit Magic’ means?”

Facing the boos, Mo En spoke with unwavering conviction.

His idea was wildly ambitious—he was challenging a mature system that had existed for countless years; claiming naming rights wasn’t something easily won.

“.”

Everyone fell silent.

“That’s great! I support Itachi, Mo En.”

Mirajane spoke first, her expression full of belief that Mo En could accomplish it.

"Yeah! Go for it, Mo En! Itachi can do it!"

Lisanna nodded vigorously, her face filled with agreement and admiration.

"Go for it, Mo En!"

Elfman clenched his fist—these three, sister, brother, and sister, were perfectly aligned, proving they truly didn’t understand Star Spirit Magic—they were genuine magic novices.

Erza, Cana, and Rebey all stared at Mo En in shock—they hadn’t expected him to have such ambition. They understood how impossible this task was; it was nearly unthinkable.

“But… if it’s Mo En…”

Though she believed it was nearly impossible, looking at Mo En and his confident expression, Erza couldn’t help wondering—could he actually pull it off?

"Mo En! Everyone, come look!"

The group, still stunned by Mo En’s words, snapped back to attention at a loud commotion—it was Natsu’s voice.

Loud and boisterous, Natsu burst out of the forest, holding high above his head an “egg.”

“Natsu, what monster’s egg did Itachi steal this time?”

Seeing Natsu’s proud, boastful expression, Mo En smiled and asked.

“This egg is huge—looks delicious.”

Mo En gave a serious evaluation: the egg Natsu held was half his own height—definitely from some powerful monster.

Based on Mo En’s many years of egg-hunting experience, the stronger the monster, the larger the egg, and the better the taste.

"No! Don't eat it! Mo En!"

But at Mo En’s words, Natsu shouted in horror, his eyes wide with fear—as if he’d recalled something terrible.

Last time, on Mo En’s birthday, Natsu had given him a monster bird egg—and that egg had been roasted and eaten outright by Mo En!

Natsu still vividly remembered the taste of that bird egg.

No! He vividly remembered the baby bird inside—wouldn’t it be better to wait until it grew up and eat the meat?!

‘Pfft! What nonsense!’

Natsu clutched the egg tightly, shaking off those chaotic thoughts.

In short, what he wanted to convey was:

“This egg is different.”

“It’s this big! Could it be a dragon egg?!”

Natsu placed the egg on the ground and excitedly asked everyone.

The moment he said it, everyone understood why Natsu thought this egg was different from others.

In the past, when they ate roasted eggs, Natsu had never stopped saying “So delicious!”—he never minded eating eggs he stole.

This time, he was so excited because he believed this egg was connected to dragons—the word "dragon" was Natsu’s trigger. He’d been in the guild for nearly a year, and during that time he’d been frantically searching for dragons—with no luck.

Now, finally, he’d found what might be a “dragon egg,” and he treasured it deeply.

Most importantly, this “dragon egg” had appeared suddenly—it had fallen from the sky and hit Natsu on the head, not taken from any monster’s nest. This was truly an egg whose contents were unknown.

“Why do Itachi think it’s a dragon egg?”

Though Mo En understood why Natsu didn’t want to eat it, he now had a new question: why did Natsu call it a “dragon egg”? There had to be a reason.

“It’s this big!”

Natsu gave his first reason, gesturing to the egg’s size.

“Unreasonable.”

But the argument that “it’s big, so it must be a dragon egg” clearly failed to convince anyone.

“Look at the patterns on it—don’t they look like dragonfire?!”

Seeing they still didn’t believe him, Natsu grew anxious. He pointed to the blue patterns on the white egg, eagerly explaining.

“Hmm… yes, they do look like flame patterns.”

Mo En stepped closer, examining the markings closely—there was indeed a fairly distinct flame symbol.

“It’s likely the egg of some fire-using monster.”

Rebey offered a guess after observing it. Though she’d read extensively and studied many monster encyclopedias, including details on eggs and hatchlings, she didn’t recognize this one—she could only speculate.

“Igneel uses fire magic! This could be Igneel’s egg!”

Natsu immediately declared, as if it were unquestionably true.

“Wait, Natsu—Isn’t Igneel your dad? He’s a male dragon, right? How could he lay an egg?”

Mo En sighed and rubbed his forehead. Natsu’s logic was simply impossible for normal people to follow—could Igneel really lay an egg?
