Chapter 11: When you're fighting, you don't feel tired—hurry up
Ye Cheng shook his head, "We're just two people, how much can we dig? If they want to dig, let them dig. Besides, whether we find anything depends on luck—what are you afraid of?"
"Hurry up and get to work."
The five people each squatted down and started working.
Huang Hai and the others had been digging over there, but after half a day they found nothing, so the three agreed to come over here to take a look.
I never expected Ye Cheng and his group to have dug so much—this kind of auspicious spot shouldn't be monopolized by one person.
We thought splitting the territory with Ye Cheng would surely yield a bountiful harvest, but after digging half a day, the three of us only managed to dig up two sandworms, and small ones at that.
On Ye Cheng's side, he occasionally tossed a few sea squirts into the bucket, and they were all that thick, making the three of them stare with envy.
"Hai Ge, damn it, how weird is this—they have it and we don't." Duan Yong flung his shovel down in irritation.
"Exactly, Hai Ge, just looking at them makes me want to rush over and grab theirs." Yuan Jiansheng stared fixedly at Ye Cheng and the other, his eyes already beginning to glow red.
"Right, Hai Ge, if we rob them, this bucket must be worth several hundred yuan." Duan Yong also felt tempted.
Huang Hai frowned, stood up, and looked at the two, saying, "Are you crazy? We came to gather seafood, not to rob."
The two blushed and said nothing.
Huang Hai snorted coldly, "Forget it, let's go—otherwise you'll feel uneasy staring here. We're all from the same village; what are you trying to do? Why don't you go rob the village chief's house?"
Having said that, Huang Hai picked up his things and headed straight for the shore.
Duan Yong and Yuan Jiansheng exchanged a glance and silently followed.
"Brother, they've left." Xiao Hu said triumphantly.
"Mind your own business, hurry up and dig—how many have you dug so far?"
Upon saying that, Xiao Hu's face immediately fell. "Brother, it's not that I'm not trying—look, I've dug a large area, but there's nothing. Who's as lucky as you?"
Ye Cheng looked up and saw that it was indeed true.
"Okay, okay, you've worked hard—go up and rest a bit."
"No, if you haven't rested, how can I?"
Ye Cheng shook his head and kept his head down, working hard.
Gathering seafood really isn't easy work; Ye Cheng dug for another half hour and filled his bucket.
He was utterly exhausted, so Ye Cheng called out to Xiao Hu, "Let's take a break."
The two found a large rock to sit on, drank some water; fortunately it was morning, not too hot, otherwise that water would have been gone.
While they were chatting, Xiao Hu pointed toward the village and said in a low voice, "Brother, they're coming back."
"Who's coming back?" Ye Cheng turned his head to look.
Duan Yong and Yuan Jiansheng were walking over, each carrying a bucket, heading straight for them—clearly not here to gather seafood.
Ye Cheng picked up his shovel and stared at the two.
Duan Yong and Yuan Jiansheng walked straight over, glanced at the two, and said, "Ye Cheng, you used to steal our chickens and break our windows—shouldn't you compensate us?"
Ye Cheng snorted coldly, "Who saw me steal chickens? Who saw me smash the glass?"
"Nonsense, in this village only you two do such things—if it's not you, who is it?" Duan Yong said with a fierce expression.
"Right, give us half a bucket, and this will be settled." Yuan Jiansheng pointed at Ye Cheng's bucket.
"Damn! Why don't you go rob something else? Your chickens are worth only a few bucks, while this bucket is worth hundreds—are you crazy?" Xiao Hu shouted.
Ye Cheng frowned; this kid, by saying that, isn't he admitting to stealing chickens? Too clumsy.
"I don't care—you must pay us today." Duan Yong acted unreasonably.
The two stepped forward, leaving Ye Cheng puzzled—though he's considered a rascal, he feels they're even more shameless than he is.
"All this talk, you're just jealous because we dug more—if you're capable, go dig yourselves." Ye Cheng said disdainfully.
"Digging crap, today you'll pay whether you like it or not." Yuan Jiansheng grew impatient and reached out to snatch Ye Cheng's bucket.
Before he even touched the bucket, Ye Cheng swung his shovel down without hesitation.
Startled, Yuan Jiansheng hastily pulled back; the shovel rang as it struck the stone, splitting it in half.
Yuan Jiansheng gaped, staring at Ye Cheng in disbelief, then after a moment said, "Damn! You really went for it—if I hadn't pulled back, would my hand have been cut off?"
"Damn, you dare to go for the kill—come on!" Duan Yong roared and lunged at Ye Cheng.
"You dare touch my brother." Xiao Hu panicked, dove forward, tackled Duan Yong into the mud, and slapped him twice, leaving him dazed.
Seeing the fight start, Yuan Jiansheng raised his fist, but Ye Cheng moved first, kicking him in the solar plexus and sending him sprawling to the ground.
Yuan Jiansheng cried out, fell onto the tidal flat, and mud splattered onto his face.
"You dare hit me, I—"
Mid-sentence, Yuan Jiansheng's voice cut off—Ye Cheng's shovel had stopped above his head, the sharp tip aimed at him, a cold glint flashing; he dared not speak further.
Ye Cheng looked at him with a cold expression and said calmly,
"Yuan Jiansheng, I don't care about any past grudges—I make my living gathering seafood with my own hands. If you dare to steal again, next time my shovel won't stop here. Understand?"
As he spoke, he pressed the shovel down hard, frightening Yuan Jiansheng into shouting with eyes shut, "I understand, I understand."
"Xiao Hu." Ye Cheng withdrew his shovel and shouted.
Wang Xiaohu glanced over, rose from Duan Yong's body, and kicked him hard again, saying, "If it weren't for my brother calling me, I'd have beaten you to death."
Duan Yong, thoroughly beaten and spiritless, while Yuan Jiansheng scrambled up, helped Duan Yong to his feet, and the two fled in disarray, forgetting to take their buckets.
"Pah! Still thinking of robbing us." Xiao Hu said contemptuously, watching their retreating backs.
"Alright, wash up—you're all dirty."
"Yeah, brother, those two are just cowards, thinking we're easy to bully. Next time they come, I'll break his leg." Xiao Hu said, scooping some seawater from the shore to wash the mud off himself.
"Enough—if you break his leg, you'll end up in jail."
Ye Cheng shook his head, "These days the village is lax, fights happen often. Good thing Xiao Hu is here—otherwise I might really have been robbed today."
"Brother, shall we keep digging?"
Dig, do a bit more.
Today's Luck Value is 70, what he's dug up is about the same as yesterday, Ye Cheng wants to try again.
Still digging? You're all tired.
You weren't tired when fighting, hurry up.
Xiao Hu gave a hehe laugh, "Fighting isn't tiring."
Ye Cheng gave him a glance, continued working.
