Chapter 193: Just throw a net at me casually
If I'd known there were this many hermit crabs, I might as well just come catch hermit crabs next time. Ye Cheng speechlessly picked up these hermit crabs.
After walking five points in a row, there was nothing but hermit crabs, leaving Ye Cheng fed up.
"Brother, are they all gone?" Xiao Hu muttered.
"How could that be? Could what we saw when we came up just be the last one? Our luck is too heaven-defying."
Ye Cheng, while speaking, pushed aside the leaves to walk over; just as he pushed aside the leaves, he stopped moving.
"Brother, what's wrong?" Xiao Hu was still waiting behind Ye Cheng to catch up.
"There's a catch." Ye Cheng said in a hoarse voice, suppressing his excitement.
Xiao Hu hurriedly poked his head to look; under that stick ahead, a blue coconut crab was squatting, spinning around, worrying how to get up.
This coconut crab is huge, about thirty to forty centimeters long, definitely a big catch.
Ye Cheng greeted from behind, and the two tiptoed over; the coconut crab seemed to sense something, turned around trying to run, but Ye Cheng rushed over and pressed it to the ground.
"Got it." Ye Cheng cheered, lifting the coconut crab with both hands, "It's heavy, Xiao Hu, ah, hahaha."
"Brother, let me hold it." Xiao Hu hurriedly took it from Ye Cheng's hands, weighed it, "About seven or eight catties."
"Yes, we've struck it rich this time, keep going." Ye Cheng's spirits rose, and he led Xiao Hu onward to keep searching.
After that, with over a dozen baits, they caught dozens more hermit crabs, then found only two coconut crabs, making a total of three coconut crabs.
Actually, according to Ye Cheng's thinking, if they waited a bit longer there might be more, but having promised Wang Defa, they could only wait until next time to come again.
After packing up, they walked back along the beach; when they reached the seaside, they saw Wang Defa already waiting there in the distance.
They quickened their pace and approached, "Uncle Er, why did you come so early?"
Ye Cheng checked the time; there were still ten minutes left, and from the looks of it, Wang Defa had already been there a while, sitting on the deck smoking.
Wang Defa said listlessly, "Nothing much, just came early to pick you up. How did you guys do today?"
"Not bad, we got some stuff." Ye Cheng said offhandedly.
"Really? Let Uncle see what you've got." Wang Defa helped lift the water tank up, opened it, and took a look.
"Dog sharks, sea eels, and sea cucumbers—so many." Wang Defa was envious to death.
"Yeah, I dug out a water pit; just happened to have good luck." Ye Cheng replied.
"And this one?" Wang Defa flung open another water tank and was instantly dumbfounded.
"What is this? Coconut crab?" Wang Defa asked himself, then looked up at Ye Cheng, "Lao Er, no wonder they say you've been favored by the Sea Dragon King—it's really not just talk."
"I've seen a coconut crab like this before a long time ago; I never expected to find one on this island."
Ye Cheng gave a light cough, "Uncle Er, strictly speaking, coconut crabs aren't marine creatures, so they have nothing to do with the Sea Dragon King."
The coconut crab is a rather special creature; its life is divided into three stages: as juveniles they live in the ocean, when they grow up they go to the islands to act as land scavengers, and when it's time to breed they return to the shore to lay eggs.
And its terrestrial stage is the longest, and it... will drown.
So it's more accurate to call it a land creature.
Wang Defa slapped his thigh, "Ah ya, Lao Er, who cares whether it's a marine creature; as long as it's from the seaside it's fine— the main thing is being able to make money."
"This stuff must fetch several hundred per catty, right?"
Ye Cheng shook his head, "I don't know either; I've never sold this before, let's see when we get ashore."
"Uncle Er, hurry up and go; we'll still make it back in time for dinner." Xiao Hu started urging.
"You, all you know is eat, eat, eat; if someone had half the ability of Lao Er, Uncle Er wouldn't have to work so hard."
"You're my uncle Er, not my dad; even if I were able, you couldn't profit from me."
"Get lost, kid; you've got meat to eat, Uncle Er can't even tag along for some soup."
Wang Defa bickered with his nephew while starting the fishing boat, chugging back.
Getting back is quick, just a few tens of minutes; from the dock, hurrying back gets you there just in time for a meal.
Ye Cheng and Xiao Hu sat on the bow, chatting intermittently.
Suddenly, Ye Cheng felt the boat slow down; he turned to look at Wang Defa, only to see Wang Defa giving him a lecherous smile.
"Damn, Uncle Er, what are you trying to do? I'm a guy." Ye Cheng was speechless.
"Uncle Er, why did the boat stop?" Xiao Hu looked at Wang Defa.
Wang Defa stopped the boat, walked over with a smile to Ye Cheng, and said, "Lao Er, let's discuss something."
"What do you want to do? No money!" Ye Cheng eyed this old coot warily, seeing at a glance he had no good intentions.
"It's not about borrowing money, A Cheng; look at how you're speaking—Uncle Er isn't that kind of person."
"Then what do you want to do, with that sly look?"
"Exactly, Uncle Er, tell us what you want to do; you look just like a movie villain." Xiao Hu muttered.
"This kid, always ruining Uncle Er's plans." Wang Desheng gave Xiao Hu a sideways glance, then continued looking at Ye Cheng.
"Lao Er, you've been favored by the Sea Dragon King; can't you help Uncle Er out?"
"I've already paid enough, Uncle Er; you say the customer is god, but I feel like now you want to pull off a shipwreck heist."
"It's not that serious; like this, you help Uncle Er cast three nets—no, just two nets will do, cast two nets."
Wang Desheng gestured with his hand to indicate two.
Ye Cheng looked at Wang Desheng; he really is two.
"Uncle Er, I don't know how to cast nets; don't mess with me, hurry back to eat— the dock will close soon."
Casting nets to catch fish, right? The problem is Ye Cheng really doesn't know how; saying it's simple is simple, saying it's hard is also hard.
It's not like those handkerchief-sized nets you can just toss; the ones on the boat are large, requiring skill, otherwise you'll just dump a big lump straight in.
"Right, Uncle Er, my older brother can't do it either; you're just joking." Xiao Hu said.
Seeing the two like that, Wang Defa scratched his head; he just wanted to borrow Ye Cheng's luck to give it a try, see if it's real.
Today my own outing to sea was already unlucky enough—I got nothing; maybe borrowing Ye Cheng's luck could turn things around.
But I can't stand it—Ye Cheng really doesn't know how to do it; this left him stunned.
"Second Uncle, how about I just throw you down like that, then call the Sea Dragon King and ask him to find you some fish, see if that works?" Looking at Wang Desheng's worried look, Ye Cheng began to tease him.
It was just a joke, but I didn't expect Wang Defa to actually slap his thigh and exclaim,
"Cheng! Just throw it, and leave the rest to the Sea Dragon King."
