Chapter 220: Old Lady Sun Arrives
Ye Cheng nodded; this taste was just right.
He took two chocolate bars from his pocket and gave them to Qian Shen, saying, "Come, Aunt, this is for the child to eat."
Qian Shen's eyes lit up, a little excited, "Ah, this is that so-called German chocolate? Your sister-in-law said last time it was expensive, right? This is really embarrassing."
Aunt, it's Dove; even if it's pricey, it's just a few bucks. Go ahead and eat it.
Qian Shen smiled embarrassedly, "Well, I'll take it then."
"Um, be careful going in; that old lady's mouth is too sharp, I find it annoying just listening."
"Okay, I got it."
Ye Cheng smiled, lifted his leg and walked in.
As soon as he entered the courtyard, he saw Jiang Yunxiang running out of the house, holding a pile of dirty clothes, bustling back and forth.
"Sister-in-law, I bought a fish; for lunch just stir-fry it with scallion oil, and there are also some cooked dishes." Ye Cheng said loudly.
"A Cheng's here, come, give me the stuff, go sit inside, we'll be able to eat soon." Jiang Yunxiang took the fish with her hand, put the clothes aside, then rushed into the kitchen.
It's clear Jiang Yunxiang is happy, that kind of happiness that comes from deep within.
In the village, women, especially those who married in, place special importance on their natal family.
Regardless of how well they live at home, they all want to gain face in front of their natal relatives.
The old lady can stay here for two days; Jiang Yunxiang is happy to see her natal family, and also wants the old lady to see that she's living well now, so she is being very attentive.
Ye Cheng walked in; a somewhat plump old lady sat in a chair, holding Dou Dou while watching cartoons.
Ye Guowei sat blankly behind; he was already a man of few words, now with his mother-in-law here, her aura so strong, besides sitting foolishly, he dared not do anything.
Originally he wanted to help Jiang Yunxiang with some chores, but she absolutely would not allow it.
You see, Jiang Yunxiang's family is quite traditional; if her own mother saw her married and still having a man help with housework, she'd definitely nag again.
So even though Ye Guowei usually helps with chores, at this moment Jiang Yunxiang absolutely will not let him lift a finger.
Seeing Ye Cheng swaying in, the old lady glanced sideways, let out a cold snort, sat still like a mountain, and said nothing.
Ye Cheng was also used to it; the old lady is like this every time she comes—poor as she may be, her aura at her daughter's house is truly strong, so Ye Cheng used to be too lazy to come at such times.
But that was then, this is now.
"Oh, the mother-in-law has arrived." Ye Cheng said offhandedly.
The old lady looked at Ye Cheng with a shocked expression, dissatisfied, saying, "You call me mother-in-law too?"
According to local custom, the term mother-in-law should be used by Ye Cheng's parents' generation.
Behind him, Ye Guowei gave Ye Cheng a resentful look, "What's this, you're trying to take advantage of me, your older brother, aren't you?"
Ye Cheng gave a hehe laugh, "Well, I'm just used to it, Aunt Sun, don't mind."
The old lady's surname is Sun, so Ye Cheng usually calls her Aunt Sun.
Old Lady Sun glanced impatiently at Ye Cheng, "Again coming to mooch off your older brother's house; you're this big, you're not handicapped, aren't you ashamed?"
Upon hearing the old lady scold his younger brother, Ye Guowei noticed his brother's temperament had changed a bit, fearing conflict, he hurried to explain,
"No, Mom, A Cheng only comes occasionally; it's not that you came today, so I invited A Cheng to join the meal."
Ye Guowei's explanation was strained, but Old Lady Sun wouldn't listen at all, "Guowei, it's not that I'm criticizing you; it's true that the elder brother is like a father, but you can't keep indulging him, right?"
"You say you're just a manual laborer, yet you have to support a wife and children."
Old Lady Sun started on her usual nagging, soon to mention Dou Dou having to go to school and such; Ye Cheng had heard it all before.
He softly called Dou Dou, then took out the chocolate and waved it around.
Dou Dou immediately jumped off the old lady, hopping and skipping over to Ye Cheng, snatching the chocolate and also a bag of KFC.
Old Lady Sun turned her head, her face instantly sinking, "Always buying random snacks for kids; it's almost mealtime."
Dou Dou is also a clever kid; seeing the old lady unhappy, he immediately opened the chocolate, broke off a piece and handed it to her,
"Grandma, try a piece of chocolate, it's delicious."
Seeing it was chocolate from her grandson, Old Lady Sun rarely showed a hint of a smile, rubbed his head, and refused,
"Well, my Dou Dou is good; Grandma has eaten chocolate before, it's too hard, Grandma's teeth hurt when she bites it."
Hearing the old lady say it's hard, Dou Dou immediately climbed up, shoved the chocolate into her mouth, "Grandma, this chocolate isn't hard at all, it's over ten bucks a piece."
Just as the old lady had the chocolate in her mouth, hearing Dou Dou say it's over ten bucks, she almost spat it out.
She turned her head, angrily glaring at Ye Cheng, pointing at the chocolate in Dou Dou's hand,
"Over ten bucks? You're kidding me; the village shop sells it for 2 bucks, and it's a big piece—did you again swindle your brother's money to waste?"
Ye Cheng felt a black line across his forehead; Old Lady Sun, your imagination is something.
But come to think of it, I really did that before, can't argue.
Ye Cheng pointed to his mouth, "Aunt Sun, this really is expensive; do you feel no electric sensation? It's soft, fragrant, rich chocolate."
After Ye Cheng's reminder, the old lady finally started paying attention to the taste in her mouth; it really does seem a bit different from other chocolates.
"Grandma, is it really delicious?" Dou Dou stared with big eyes at the old lady.
The old lady pursed her lips, felt it sweet and fragrant, couldn't help but stick out her tongue for a light lick; the corners of her eyes already couldn't help but rise.
"It's delicious, but too expensive; your second uncle is just wasting money, all this chocolate must be nearly a hundred bucks, too wasteful." The old lady said, not entirely without conscience, that it wasn't bad.
"It's fine, Grandma; Second Uncle has money, plus there's KFC, Second Uncle often buys me stuff, he's really good to me."
Ye Cheng secretly gave a thumbs-up behind his back, "Kid, you've got potential, and you still remember Second Uncle's kindness."
But the old lady didn't believe that, gave Ye Cheng a sideways glance, and said to Dou Dou, "Your second uncle's money all comes from your dad; you think he earns it himself?"
Saying that, it actually left Dou Dou a bit confused; he just gave up thinking about it, sat down, and kept watching TV.
Jiang Yunxiang's food was ready soon; everyone bustled to set up the table, letting the old lady sit at the head, Ye Guowei helped a little to bring up the dishes.
Originally the old lady was all smiles, but seeing the dishes on the table increase, her expression grew worse and worse.
When the final dish, steamed East Star grouper, was served, the old lady could no longer sit still.
