Chapter 320: Baobao, why did you jump into the sea?

~6 min read 1,137 words

Ah, that, it's not as exaggerated as Xiao Rou said, just some ordinary dishes, but our village's crayfish are not bad; if you have time tonight, I'll save some for you.

Crayfish? I heard there's some kind of crayfish recently in the city, supposedly only about this big? Yang Liu gestured about seven or eight centimeters.

Yeah, it's what we make in our village, spicy, you can eat it, right?

Sure, don't underestimate anyone—I eat hot pot with the red broth.

Alright, we'll have crayfish tonight, and for lunch let's have some oil-braised shrimp and plain-boiled shrimp. Ye Cheng brought out two plates of shrimp, simply cooked.

Wow, this shrimp feels great, it has a taste of the sea. Xiao Rou first ate a plain-boiled large shrimp, very satisfied.

Seeing Xiao Rou's satisfied expression, Xiao Hu silently raised his hand,

"Xiao Rou sis, the seafood on the boat still has a bit of seawater, so it'll have a hint of sea flavor."

Xiao Rou:...

You damn little Hu.

"Mm, Ye Cheng, these big shrimp are indeed well-cooked." Yang Liu ate an oil-braised shrimp, her eyes smiling.

As long as it's tasty, ladies, come on, don't be shy—these are cooked by Xiao Hu's mom, home-style dishes, not up to chef level, but the ingredients are absolutely farm-fresh, guaranteed.

"Yeah, they're all picked by my mom this morning from the fields." Xiao Hu gave a little show-off.

Because Ye Cheng asked for light dishes, besides the stir-fried pork with chili they had earlier, Xiao Hu's mom also reduced the amount of loofah, cucumber, and eggs.

Eating fresh vegetables with seafood on the sea, the two beauties were delighted.

While eating, Xiao Rou also fed Da Huang, ostensibly to have a meal together, saying, "Baby, look, Mom's given you all this food—shouldn't you catch a fish for Mom? I heard those spiritual babies can do that—can you?"

"It's a sea turtle, not a wish-granting turtle." Yang Liu said lightly.

"What's wrong? My baby can understand speech." Xiao Rou stroked Da Huang with a fond expression.

Ye Cheng chuckled aside, glad he brought Da Huang today, otherwise he'd be busy to death.

Just then, Da Huang suddenly turned its head and walked outward; nobody paid attention, assuming it was just taking a stroll.

Unexpectedly, it climbed right up to the boat's edge and then tumbled into the sea with a flip.

With a "glug" sound, it startled everyone.

"Baobao, Baobao, why did you jump into the sea? Hurry up and come back!" Xiao Rou anxiously jumped up and down.

"Xiao Rou sis, it's a sea turtle, it won't drown—what are you afraid of?" Ye Cheng quickly grabbed her; this girl gets easily excited.

Xiao Rou, who had been anxious, instantly realized upon Ye Cheng's words: right, I'm not raising a dog—this is a sea turtle, sea turtles belong in the ocean.

Well, that's just going home.

"Is it rejecting me? Does it dislike my talkativeness?" Xiao Rou sat down, beginning to self-reflect.

"Ah, that's just how it is; last time I raised it, feeding it well, it also went back to the sea for about half a month—normal."

"Oh, I thought it disliked my nagging." Hearing Ye Cheng say that, Xiao Rou felt much relieved and picked up a shrimp to comfort herself.

Just then, Xiao Rou suddenly sprang up, one hand holding chopsticks, the other holding a shrimp bitten in her mouth, making a whimpering sound.

"What the—? What's wrong with you?" Ye Cheng jumped, thinking Xiao Rou might be choking or something.

Xiao Rou shoved Ye Cheng aside, then swallowed the shrimp in her mouth, pointing into the distance and shouting,

"Look! Dolphins!"

"What? Dolphins?" Yang Liu sprang up in delight and turned to look.

Only see on the distant sea surface, several dolphins swimming slowly, their dorsal fins high above water, occasionally revealing their large foreheads.

"Ye Cheng, go over and take a look, hurry up and chase after them to see." Yang Liu said excitedly.

"Oh." Ye Cheng replied, inwardly cursing, couldn't it have come later? The meal isn't finished yet.

Ye Cheng started the boat, angled left, and headed straight toward those dolphins.

As the distance closed, the two women stood beside the deck, tiptoeing to watch; at this range they could already see them clearly.

"Yah, I see them, how cute!" Xiao Rou exclaimed happily.

Yang Liu, however, furrowed her brows and said softly,

"These aren't dolphins."

"Huh? Not really?" Xiao Rou asked offhand, I thought they looked like them.

"These are short-finned pilot whales." Yang Liu stated firmly.

"What? These are whales? Whales aren't that big, are they?" Xiao Rou looked incredulous.

"Although short-finned pilot whales have 'whale' in their name, they actually belong to the dolphin family. Look at their size—these few individuals can reach nearly 5 meters, larger than dolphins." Yang Liu began explaining, pointing at the animals.

Xiao Rou listened intently, unconsciously nodding.

"Also, their heads are rounded and blunt with no protruding beak, whereas dolphins have a distinct snout."

"And look at their skin color—it's very dark, while dolphins' skin is much lighter."

Ye Cheng also listened attentively to Yang Liu's words; he doesn't usually come across such knowledge.

He could tell they weren't dolphins, but he didn't know their specific names.

After hearing Yang Liu's words, Xiao Rou also knew they weren't dolphins, but she remained excited, taking out her phone and snapping several photos.

"Um, ladies, since they're not dolphins, can I cast a net to fish?" Ye Cheng asked.

"You're so unromantic." Xiao Rou complained.

Yang Liu also shot Ye Cheng a glance,

"Can't we just enjoy the sea? Why must we fish?"

"If we don't fish, you'll have to support me." Ye Cheng said speechlessly.

The two turned to look at Ye Cheng together and said in unison,

"Tch! Who would support you."

"Hurry up and go over, we still want to watch!"

"Alright, alright, two beauties, I'm heading over!" Ye Cheng helplessly increased the Boat's speed, chasing after this so-called group of whales.

This group of short-finned pilot whales numbers over a dozen; according to Yang Liu's introduction, they are naturally social animals, and at their largest the pod can reach over a hundred individuals.

Yang Liu was speaking enthusiastically when suddenly Xiao Hu pointed at the whale pod and said, "Um, you guys see, is that a white dolphin?"

"Huh? Where?" Upon hearing the words "white dolphin," Yang Liu reflexively turned around and looked over.

At some point, a white figure had appeared among the whale pod, swimming along with them forward.

Yang Liu excitedly pointed at that white figure, trembling as she said, "It's it! It's a white dolphin!"

"Huh? Really? I want to see too." Xiao Rou dragged over a stool and stepped on it, afraid her legs weren't long enough.
