Chapter 329: A month brings in several thousand—how can I not be anxious?

~7 min read 1,370 words

"All right, when the time comes I'll go withdraw the money; I won't shortchange those two traitors either." Zhang Guafu said, still resentful when she uttered the word "traitors".

After Ye Cheng finished speaking, Yuan Jiansheng suddenly interjected, "Brother Cheng, when are we going to start?"

"What? Why the rush?" Ye Cheng said calmly.

His face was calm, but he felt great inside; what he wanted was for you to be anxious, what he wanted was for you to know how good the benefits at our big factory are, damn it.

"Brother Cheng, I'm an apprentice at the city machinery factory and only make 600 yuan a month, while you guys make several thousand a month—how can I not be anxious?"

"If you're anxious, then work hard; following Lao Er is the right choice, got it, Ah Yong?" Duan Chunsheng only spoke at this point, and in passing gave his son a smack.

"Yeah, if you're anxious, just get started; if you need to go far, you can ride my motorbike." Ye Cheng pointed to the motorbike parked in the courtyard, which had just come back and been lent out again.

The two youngsters, upon hearing they could ride the motorbike, couldn't wait to set off immediately.

The afternoon meeting was a successful gathering, a victorious gathering, and it also smoothed over the impact of the Chen Brothers' betrayal.

After the meeting, Ye Cheng pulled Duan Yong aside to talk about the fish farm: they needed to select seedlings and set up a building for a nursery pond, and Ye Cheng required him to do all of this while harvesting the shrimp, especially selecting the seedlings.

While harvesting the shrimp, he would keep the strong ones as breeding stock; as for the building for the nursery pond, if there wasn't an existing one, Ye Cheng planned to build one himself, and he would provide the funds.

After finishing these tasks, Ye Cheng felt much more relieved, and his plan could proceed smoothly.

In the evening, going to his older brother's house for a meal, Ye Guowei, worried that he was in a bad mood, specially accompanied him for a few drinks, listening to Ye Cheng talk about the follow-up matters, and Ye Guowei also told him a piece of good news,

"Ah Cheng, after a while the clams will be ready for harvest; then there will be income coming in here, and you'll have a bit more financial leeway."

"Ah? It's ready for harvest already?"

Ye Cheng recalled that it hadn't been that long—how could they already be ready for harvest? This seems a bit exaggerated.

Speaking of this, Ye Guowei also felt strange,

"I don't know either; logically it should take at least half a year, but it's only been a little over three months and it's already quite large."

"Has the farming time been shortened?"

"This?"

"Could it be related to the system?"

Ye Cheng didn't bring it up with his older brother for the time being; he just made some casual small talk and then went back.

As he passed the village entrance, a crowd of people had gathered again under the big tree at the village entrance to chat idly.

They had been chatting happily, but as soon as they saw Ye Cheng, their voices suddenly dropped.

Ye Cheng understood that they were talking about what happened during the day, probably gossiping about him; he didn't mind, since even without being village head he could live just fine.

He wanted to leave, but someone didn't want to let him go.

"Ye Cheng, you're leaving already? Not going to chat a bit?" an unpleasant voice came from the crowd; Chen Jinhai walked out, looking smug, with several Chen family elders behind him.

From their expressions it was clear they were pleased; Chen Jinli also stood in the middle, though his expression wasn't good.

Someone was being despicable, and Ye Cheng was naturally satisfied.

"Isn't this our village chief? What's up? Do you resent living too long and came out to invite lightning?"

"Ye Cheng, how dare you speak like that?"

"You're being insolent, aren't you?"

"You have no manners at all."

Several Chen family elders shouted in unison, thinking that raising their voices could intimidate people.

"Damn it."

Ye Cheng glanced at them indifferently and spoke slowly,

"My parents taught me from childhood to be courteous to people, but toward dogs, toward those sneaky rats, there's no need—if they deserve a scolding, give it; they're basically dogs, old dogs at that—do they fear being scolded?"

A few sentences and he had berated the whole Chen family; the old men were so angry their moustaches bristled, pointing at Ye Cheng and cursing him—only Chen Jinli was among them.

"Enough!" Chen Jinhai raised his hand with a dark face, signaling everyone to stop, then fixed his gaze on Ye Cheng and said,

"Ye Cheng, we are your uncles and aunts after all; your parents, if they were alive, would have to be polite to us."

"Oh, then go ahead and let them continue being polite to you." Ye Cheng said offhandedly.

"You..." Chen Jinhai's chest ached with anger.

The onlooking villagers covered their mouths and laughed; Ye Lao Er's words were truly venomous—this was cursing someone to death.

However, today's election had already pitted the two families as mortal enemies, so there was indeed no need to be pretentious.

"Listen, Ye Cheng, as long as you're in the village for a day you have to behave honestly; if something happens, I won't protect you." Chen Jinhai said after catching his breath, angrily.

"Protect me? You?" Ye Cheng snorted disdainfully, "You'd better look after your own miserable life; after all the wicked deeds you've done, you're not afraid of dying and going to the eighteenth level of hell."

After saying that, Ye Cheng also couldn't be bothered to deal with those old fogeys—wasting time.

My time is money; even beating a few monsters is better than wasting time arguing with you lot.

Watching Ye Cheng's back, Chen Jinhai's face turned livid; he turned to look at Chen Jinli and said, "Jinli, we were just cursing him—why didn't you speak?"

Chen Jinli looked at Chen Jinhai with a resentful expression, "You still have the nerve to say that? If it weren't for you holding this lousy village chief position, our two boys wouldn't have offended Ye Cheng, and we wouldn't be broke."

Hearing Chen Jinli's complaint, Chen Jinhai snorted disdainfully,

"Jinli, our Chen family has been village chief for generations; this is the big picture—you need to prioritize the overall situation."

"What big picture? Being a penniless village chief is useless; now Zhang Fu and the others can only go to the city to work for wages."

Chen Jinli grew angrier the more he spoke; it had been fine before, but today when Zhang Guafu brought the money, that huge sum made him regret it to the point of wanting to die.

If I had known this would happen, I wouldn't care whether you lot become village chief or not—first get your own household in order, then talk.

Don't talk to me about any old fogeys; even if an old dragon king showed up, it wouldn't help.

Their two sons had nothing to do, planning to go to the city tomorrow to work for wages; earning 800 a month would be not bad, though they'd be worked to death.

Moreover, because of this, Chen Zhangfu no longer wants to have anything to do with him.

Honestly, these people have nothing to do with each other.

Now we've lost our own family, while they've all gotten their satisfaction.

All the bitterness in feelings is for our family to bear, right?

The more he thought, the angrier he got; Chen Jinli flung his hands and said angrily,

"From now on, don't come to me for Chen Family affairs, damn it."

After saying that, he didn't want to stay any longer, and went straight home to see if his two sons could forgive him before saying anything else.

After Ye Cheng got home, he first opened the system; he needed to see whether his older brother's rapid clam farming was related to the system.
