Chapter 373: Da Huang Eats Sausage

~7 min read 1,223 words

The two didn't rush to get off the boat; instead, they held Da Huang and began engaging in superstitious nonsense.

"Da Huang, my good brother, where did you get that branch yesterday? Tell me the direction—left or right?" Ye Cheng began speaking gently to Da Huang.

However, Da Huang wasn't feeling well today and showed no interest in what Ye Cheng said.

"Brother, maybe it's not working—should we knock on its shell? Our TV at home works fine after a few taps." Xiao Hu said loudly on purpose, meanwhile glancing sideways at Da Huang to see if it would react again.

Da Huang simply wouldn't move, no matter what you said.

Finally, with no other option, Ye Cheng placed two small fish, one left and one right, and then started coaxing,

"Brother, look—there are two fish; which will you choose, left or right?"

Da Huang lifted his head, glanced, then drooped it, showing no interest at all.

This attitude left Ye Cheng speechless—it was utterly unresponsive, impervious to coaxing or threats.

"Any ideas?" Ye Cheng looked up at Xiao Hu.

Xiao Hu was gnawing on a sausage, waving his hand,

"I can't help it; this is your little treasure."

After saying that, he took a bite of the sausage and casually tossed it onto the deck,

"Come on, brother, let's change the flavor."

"Damn! This is a sausage—you're feeding it to a divine beast!"

Before Ye Cheng could finish speaking, he saw Da Huang suddenly perk up its head and gulp down the sausage in one bite.

Its two bean‑sized eyes instantly shone with bright light.

"Holy shit!" Ye Chen exclaimed in shock—this guy actually eats sausage.

I only gave you the name Da Huang; you're just a sea turtle.

Sea turtle!

Xiao Hu was also dumbfounded—he had merely tossed it casually, never expecting a sea turtle to actually eat sausage.

"Brother, is it okay? It won't die from eating this, will it?" Xiao Hu said, looking worried.

The sausage is processed food; Ye Cheng didn't even know if sea turtles could eat it.

But after Da Huang finished the sausage in a couple of bites, it actually lifted its head and looked at Xiao Hu.

Xiao Hu stared in disbelief, crouched down, and broke off another half of the sausage to toss over.

Da Huang grabbed it without hesitation and gulped it down in two bites.

"Brother, I think we might need to get it some instant noodles from now on."

Ye Cheng was also at a loss for words—this guy completely defies expectations.

"Fine, since you like it, I'll really treat you as Da Huang."

Ye Cheng fetched a fresh sausage, opened it intending to fill Da Huang up, but the guy had already eaten two—his appetite is huge.

After eating and drinking his fill, Da Huang's energy surged—damn, maybe the additives got it excited.

"Um, brother, now that you're fed, you should look for that piece of wood from yesterday—where did you find it?"

This time Da Huang was perceptive, crawling to the bow and raising its head high to the right.

Hmm...

Quite abstract.

But then it suddenly became clear—right, toward the distance.

Ye Cheng gave an OK sign, then briefed Xiao Hu, and dove into the water.

On the sea bottom there were still plenty of scallops—leftovers from yesterday's catch—but Ye Cheng had no time to look at them, shouting, "Get lost, old man! Don't block my way—today you don't deserve to be here!"

To see the sea bottom clearly, Ye Cheng swam right along it, making everything below perfectly clear.

The sneaky shifting Blue Crabs, the showy sea stars relying on being inedible, and the tiny fish pretending to be big fish to scavenge scraps from his body—all were laid bare.

Following Da Huang's head height, Ye Cheng swam forward about 100 meters, then slowed down.

Because this patch of sea bottom was a bit different.

Over there was sandy soil, while this side was indeed darker.

This side was likely once land or something else.

Moving forward a bit more, Ye Cheng stopped and saw it.

In the faintly lit sea bottom, a short branch stub protruded—clearly a tree branch at a glance.

A branch that can survive underwater is certainly no ordinary wood—it must be sunk timber.

Ye Cheng excitedly swam over, grabbed the branch, and tried to pull it out.

Before he could even exert force, the branch emitted a strange sound and crumpled into a clump.

Damn!

Rotten branch!

Damn it!

I actually thought we'd found it.

This was surely just driftwood blown in by the sea wind, never meeting the conditions for sunk timber, so it had soaked and rotted.

Ye Cheng tossed it aside and continued swimming forward.

Ahead, a large tree loomed, its lower half buried in the seabed silt, the exposed part all knotted and hollowed.

Damn, there are really a lot of trees—Ye Cheng guessed this was the trunk of that rotten branch he'd just seen, though he didn't know how decayed it was, or if it would burst apart at a squeeze.

On a whim, Ye Cheng casually swam over, intending to squeeze it and see if it would burst.

Since he was already planning to smash it, he put some force into it and slapped it with his palm.

Hiss—

Damn!

The shock made his hand go numb.

Damn it, it's actually this hard.

Ye Cheng shook his hand and reached out again.

He was instantly overjoyed.

This is it, this is the feeling.

It feels like iron that isn't iron, wood that isn't wood.

Sunken wood!

This is the sunken wood from yesterday.

Indeed, intentional planting yields no blooms; careless insertion brings shade.

Ye Cheng shoved aside the mud and sand on the wood's surface with his hand, revealing its true appearance.

This...

Ye Cheng was stunned; this seems a bit big.

Just the visible part is half a meter in diameter; this is a huge piece of wood.

If the whole thing were pulled out, how big would it be? Ye Cheng can hardly imagine.

Most of the wood is buried in the soil; Ye Cheng tried to pull it, but it wouldn't budge.

Originally, he was underwater, unable to leverage force; looking at the tree's size, it's no small fry, so it's normal he can't pull it.

Helpless, Ye Cheng could only swim up first.

"Whoosh," Ye Cheng's head broke the Sea Surface.

"Xiao Hu!" Ye Cheng waved at the person behind him.

"Brother, how's it going? Found it?" Xiao Hu shouted from the Boat's bow.

"Found it, but it's too heavy; bring the Boat over."

"Okay, move aside a bit, don't hit you."

Makes sense.

Ye Cheng didn't think, just dove straight down.

Given Xiao Hu's cluelessness, he might accidentally floor it and send me to the West.

After Xiao Hu steadied the Boat, Ye Cheng then climbed aboard from the Boat side.

"Damn, brother, I feel you don't trust me." Xiao Hu said glumly.

"Rest assured, I don't just distrust you; nobody else trusts me either." Ye Cheng made a joke, then continued:

"Alright, down to business: that piece of wood below is a bit big; get a rope ready, tie it to the Boat, and once I've secured it, you can drive the Boat to give it a tug."

"Okay."
