Chapter 315: Arrival in Hucheng

~7 min read 1,235 words

"Forget about my dog for a moment. I have some good news and some bad news. Which would you like to hear first?" Bai Si asked.

"The good news."

"The Eternal Cube has deduced 17 possible locations for this ancient artifact of origin. 16 of them are just like this fragment—shattered too severely to retain their original power—but one of them has a completeness rate of over 60%."

"And the bad news?" Ye Lin pressed.

"That half-piece of the ancient artifact with over 60% completeness is likely in the hands of some living being, because its position keeps moving. I can't determine if it's a human or a member of the Demon race," Bai Si replied.

"Hiss..."

Ye Lin drew a sharp breath; this was indeed bad news.

If that half of the ancient artifact were merely scattered elsewhere, he would only need to go and retrieve it.

But since the item is in someone else's hands, it means he can only take it by force.

The opponent's strength is unknown, but one would assume that anyone capable of controlling half an ancient artifact of origin couldn't be weak. This is truly bad news.

Furthermore, if it happens to be in the hands of the Demon race, Ye Lin wouldn't dare go there. Not to mention that the Soul-Devouring Empress wants him dead, the Imperial Gold Spear in his possession was snatched by Professor Shen from a Demon Emperor.

If he dared to appear within the Demon race's sphere of influence, the Demons would surely hunt him down the moment they received word.

"Give me the other 16 addresses first," Ye Lin said.

Bai Si was puzzled: "Was I not clear enough? Those 16 places only contain fragments; they are useless even if you get them."

"I know, just give them to me."

Although puzzled, Bai Si still copied down the coordinates for the 16 locations and handed them to Ye Lin.

Without a second word, Ye Lin passed the information to his good father-in-law, Xie Hong, and informed him that these 16 locations held the whereabouts of the ancient artifact of origin.

He figured that those useless fragments should serve as a sedative for Xie Hong; otherwise, he feared that if Xie Hong grew impatient, he might stir up more trouble for him.

Upon receiving the news, Xie Hong couldn't stop calling him a "good son-in-law" and stated he would immediately send people to search these locations.

After stabilizing Xie Hong, Ye Lin looked at Bai Si.

"We're going to the last address! We'll go check out the situation first, then decide whether or not to make a move!"

Ye Lin decided to bring Bai Si along; he might need her Heaven-Deriving ability once they arrived.

"Fine, give me a few days. I need to arrange things in Bajin City before we set off," Bai Si agreed.

Ye Lin nodded.

Time, like the awkwardness of a boy's first time holding hands, vanished without a trace in the silence.

In the blink of an eye, three days flashed by. Bai Si had arranged matters in Bajin City, and Guo Qin had finished resolving his own affairs as well.

During these three days of waiting, there was also some good news: the half-piece of the ancient artifact that had been constantly moving finally stopped, settling within a human city.

This made it fairly certain that the holder of this half-piece was most likely a human!

Before setting off, Ye Lin briefly introduced his and Guo Qin's abilities to Bai Si, so that she could better strategize.

"Him, Guo Qin, he specializes in speed. He's very fast. If there's a dangerous place, send him; he runs fast. But be careful when it comes to women—this guy is extremely lecherous and easily ruins things."

Hearing Ye Lin introduce him this way, Guo Qin was immediately displeased.

"What kind of talk is that! What kind of talk! I want my lawyer! Is that being lecherous? I just find it easy to get along with women! I'm what you call a friend to women!"

Ye Lin rolled his eyes. As far as he knew, because Guo Qin had been "getting along" with women over the past two days, he had been discovered by a woman's husband and nearly beaten to a pulp.

"As for me, I can kill anyone below level 80 face-to-face. Below level 90, I can kill if no one is watching. Above level 90, I'm not sure; I haven't fought them, so I'll likely lose, but I can run."

"In other words, as long as we don't run into a powerhouse above level 90, there shouldn't be any problems."

Bai Si nodded, having a rough idea of the group's strength.

"Let's go."

Under Bai Si's guidance, the three stepped onto the teleportation array in Qingcheng and headed for the final location she had deduced: Hucheng!

Hucheng was the fourth human city Ye Lin had reached, with a population of around two million.

Although it wasn't as prosperous as the Capital or Shencheng, it was clearly much better than that godforsaken place, Qingcheng.

The pace of life in Hucheng was very slow; people came and went, and one could even see people riding electric scooters side-by-side, chatting.

"Let's split up. We need to figure out the distribution of power and other information in Hucheng before we think about how to get that half-piece of the ancient artifact," Bai Si said calmly.

Know yourself and know your enemy, and you will win every battle; information is the most important thing at all times.

"OK!" X2

The three split up. Ye Lin's target was the underground black market of Hucheng.

Every city had its own dark, hidden corners. Ye Lin didn't know where Hucheng's underground black market was, but someone else did.

Ye Lin went straight to the main road and hailed a taxi. Taxi drivers in every city were basically living maps; as long as you paid enough, you could find out almost anything.

"Where to, young man?"

The driver asked without turning his head, a toothpick dangling from his mouth.

"Just drive, Master. I just had a breakup, I'm not in a good mood, I just want to go for a ride," Ye Lin sighed gloomily and got into the car.

"Yo, I can't tell, you're quite the romantic, kid."

The driver was amused. He perfectly gauged the clutch's bite point with his left foot, and the car shot forward like an arrow released from a bow.

Drive!

Drive toward the edge of the city!

Since he was charging by the meter, he definitely wouldn't lose out.

"So, kid, how did you break up?" the driver asked, taking the initiative.

"Her best friend cheated with her. She was crying so sadly, so I went to comfort her. But instead of being grateful, she told me to get lost and called me an animal. Sigh! And then we broke up," Ye Lin said, spinning his tale.

"Hmm... well, she was definitely out of line... wait, what?"

The driver's eyes suddenly widened.

"Hold on! No, wait a second, kid! Her best friend cheated with her? Does that mean you... you drilled your girlfriend's best friend?"

"Yeah!" Ye Lin nodded. "I'm really upset right now. Master, do you know where a guy can find some food, drink, and... entertainment?"

The driver: "......"

Your ex-girlfriend was right—you really are an animal, kid!
