Chapter 120: System Upgrade Task Mode
"I am bored to death. Why doesn't this spaceship have a Quantum Network Connection?" Hunter sat in the cockpit. They were currently just cruising normally, waiting for the Warp Drive to cool down.
Claptrap could handle the normal navigation of the spaceship, so a big shot like him had nothing to do.
Their spaceship could not compare to Hel's HMS Silence. It was safe to say the difference was worlds apart.
The Warp Drive on Hel's HMS Silence did not need to cool down at all. It took less than half a day to travel from Heavenly Desolation Star to the No Man's Land System.
On their spaceship, however, if they warped too many times, the engine required a cooldown period, otherwise accidents were highly likely.
"Equipping it with Quantum Network Connection technology... would increase the price significantly," Li Ping explained from his perspective as a salesman. "Having Quantum Communication Technology is already pretty good..."
A custom-built spaceship costing a billion Star Coins, yet they could not even browse the internet in interstellar space.
It could not be helped. The distances between star systems were terrifyingly vast, and only quantum technology could bridge the gap.
Many spaceship owners would scrape together every last penny just to afford Quantum Communication Technology. As for a network connection... not surfing the web would not kill anyone.
Since Gore and Star Speech were outsiders, there were many things that could not be discussed in front of them.
"We should get a refit once we reach Heavenly Desolation Star," Li Yu muttered, also feeling the inconvenience. Not being able to visit the Black Hole Network and watch those warmongers shooting the breeze was quite frustrating.
"I wonder what the situation is with the Stargate. It has almost been two days," Hunter muttered.
"Are you still preoccupied with the Star Glory Empire?" Li Yu teased.
Hunter ignored him. The last time the Titan Colonization Armor was activated, Li Yu had scared the living daylights out of him. Even now, he was unclear on Li Yu's thoughts.
Li Yu leaned against the porthole, the endless stellar radiance reflecting in his eyes. If one looked closely, they would notice his clothes seemed to be slowly writhing, though it could easily be mistaken for an illusion.
"Master, the Dark Star armor fusion is complete..."
A familiar voice echoed in his ear. Li Yu had ordered the Titan Colonization Armor to devour a Smart Terminal containing Claptrap's program, allowing Claptrap to take control of the Titan Colonization Armor.
It was not total control, but rather functioning as a Smart Butler. The inherent AI program of the Titan Colonization Armor was simply too crude.
Whenever the Titan Colonization Armor lost its energy and host, it would slowly regress, losing all integrated foreign technology and intelligence until it returned to a dilapidated state.
Devouring a set of Dark Star armor gave the Titan Colonization Armor the preliminary form of a mechanical suit, granting it a series of basic functions like a Recirculating Air System, Infrared Detection, and a Built-in Thruster Engine.
However, it took the Titan Colonization Armor a full day to thoroughly digest the Dark Star armor.
Over the past two days, the System Log had also been updating right on schedule.
[Day 11 - Biohazard World: Building a beautiful sanctuary...]
[Day 12 - Biohazard World: You saved a high school girl... continuing to build a beautiful sanctuary...]
[Day 13 - Biohazard World: You saved a pair of blonde sisters... continuing to build a beautiful sanctuary...]
[Day 14 - Biohazard World: While you were building your beautiful sanctuary, your reputation spread far and wide. Alice heard about this demonic lair from a friend.
Upon hearing your name, she was completely enraged. She brought the Clone Sisters Army she had rescued from an Umbrella Corporation base to settle the score with you.
As the perfect specimen bonded with the T-Virus, capable of destroying satellites with a mere glare, Alice surrounded you with her clone army.
Your eyes glowed green with excitement... If twin sisters were double the joy, then how many times the joy was this?
Unfortunately... you were beaten to death by the mob... Avatar judged as dead.]
[Acquired Green Title - Lewdness]
[Acquired Green Title - Late Justice]
[Recycling in Progress, cooldown time 24 hours, survival time - 14 days, Reward Settlement in Progress...]
[Survival Milestone Reward - 14 Days: Acquired Special Item - Virus Vaccine.]
[Avatar's total combined survival time has exceeded 50 days, System Upgrading... Unlocking Task Mode...]
Li Yu read this without a single ripple of emotion. He even felt it was good that the clone died.
After all, even he felt that his Avatar was guilty of heinous crimes that were simply too numerous to record. If he had heard of someone acting so shamelessly, he definitely would have eliminated the menace for the people!
'I am absolutely irreconcilable with evil. But if it's me personally, pretend I never said that first part.'
The system upgrade was an unexpected harvest. Previously, surviving for twenty days triggered an upgrade that yielded an Avatar Count +1, but this time there was no such thing...
'I wonder if the next upgrade will give me one...' Li Yu felt somewhat expectant.
First came the various titles.
[Acquired Green Title - Lewdness: Lust levels multiplied several times over.]
[Acquired Green Title - Late Justice: Turns a blind eye to evil deeds.]
Two useless titles. Li Yu had already accumulated quite a few of them. 'I wonder if some kind of crushing and synthesizing function will appear in the future...' he pondered.
[Acquired Special Item - Virus Vaccine: Cures infections originating from the bio-virus (Note: Includes all modifications utilizing the bio-virus as a blueprint.)]
To think he actually obtained a Virus Vaccine in the end. He had no idea if he would ever need to use it.
"Surely no one would actually go out of their way to study a bio-virus..." He wore a strange expression.
Next was this entirely new Task Mode. He carefully reviewed the information.
[Task Mode: When deploying an Avatar to a new world, tasks can be assigned to the Avatar. Once Task Mode is activated, the System Log will not refresh. There will only be a brief summary upon the task's failure or success.
Note: During the task process, apart from the task objective, no other rewards will be granted. Tasks are not guaranteed to succeed; if they fail, you will have gained nothing. Host, please set task objectives at your own discretion.]
Oh? Li Yu pondered over it. This Task Mode was quite nice, a fact made apparent by Clone One's recent deployment.
Many of the basic rewards from these worlds—normal titles, talents, and the like—were already completely useless to Li Yu.
Moreover, due to the Avatar's increased strength, it was nearly impossible for it to die. Often, he wouldn't even receive normal rewards; the clone was simply stalling out the world's timeline.
If it weren't for the fact that Alice had a Clone Sisters Army this time, it would have been basically impossible to kill the Avatar.
The introduction of Task Mode prevented deployments in these types of worlds from being awkward.
However, Task Mode had its pros and cons. After all, in powerful realms like the Marvel World, daily simulations yielded far greater rewards.
"It was a good death..." Li Yu could not help but sigh in admiration once more.
Meanwhile, Number Two's journey through the Marvel World had also updated during this period.
[Day 3 - Marvel World: Due to your special nature, One-Eyed Dragon met you in person and inquired about your origins.
You pretended to be in a daze and gave no answer. One-Eyed Dragon left in disappointment.
Until your origins can be confirmed, S.H.I.E.L.D. has decided to temporarily subject you to brainwashing-style conditioning.]
[Acquired Special Item - One-Eyed Dragon's Pager: Extract?]
One-Eyed Dragon's Pager... Li Yu was slightly taken aback. It couldn't be the one he was thinking of, could it?
'But this world doesn't have an Auntie Captain...'
[Acquired Special Item - One-Eyed Dragon's Pager: This seemingly antique pager possesses a special function.
Select a target to register. Once registered... you can use the Pager to summon their descent to help you overcome your current crisis.
Note: Single-use item.]
It was a quaint black Pager. One could hardly find such an antique anywhere in interstellar space, yet Li Yu stared at the Pager in his hand as if it were a priceless treasure.
Its registration method was quite peculiar; it required face-to-face registration.
Even though, once registered, it could force the target to assist him regardless of whether they were friend or foe, this physical requirement was still a minor limitation.
Given Li Yu's current circumstances, he really had no way to come into contact with any truly overpowered figures.
"Hunter..." Li Yu asked. "Do you happen to know any A-Tier Lifeforms, or anyone surpassing an A-Tier Lifeform? Could you call them over?"
"Huh?" Hunter had no idea what kind of crazy phase Li Yu was going through now. "My former boss was an A-Tier Lifeform, but unfortunately, he died..."
"Sigh..." Li Yu let out a breath. Even though he said nothing more, for some reason, Hunter found the sound exceptionally grating.
"Do you even know what kind of entity an A-Tier Lifeform is?" Hunter retorted, slightly annoyed. "A single one can rival an entire fleet. They are walking Star-Destroying Cannons."
"Some minor civilizations might not even have one. The advancement pathways to A-rank have been practically sealed shut by large civilizations like the Star Glory Empire."
"If I could summon someone like that, I wouldn't be here putting up with your petty annoyance."
Hunter felt deeply aggrieved. He swallowed the last sentence, merely grumbling it in his heart.
"I get it... I get it..." Li Yu said impatiently. "You just don't know any. Why sprout so much nonsense?"
Gore could not help but smile in surprise. The atmosphere between these men truly made him envious; he had not had any friends in a very long time...
"You guys..." he began to say. However, before he could finish, his stomach churned violently, and an overwhelming urge to vomit surged up.
"Ugh..." He gripped the metal table and hunched over, his face deathly pale as he retched uncontrollably.
"Damn..." Hunter was startled, having no clue what was wrong with the guy. "Spacesickness? That shouldn't be... We're not in combat, and the stabilizers handle normal cruising without any issues."
"Don't dirty my ship," Li Yu warned. Li Ping hurriedly summoned a Cleaning Robot.
However... Gore only appeared to be vomiting, but nothing actually came out.
"Wait... Look at his stomach!" Hunter noticed something was wrong. Gore's belly was slowly swelling and continuously writhing, as if something was inside.
Gore was in agonizing pain, his body thrashing relentlessly.
The group's expressions turned grave. It was obvious... something had gone wrong with Gore, and the most likely culprit was a hidden trap left by Dark Star.
"Just what did Dark Star do to you during this time?" Li Yu asked with a distressed expression, seemingly concerned for Gore.
Hunter, however, caught a completely different underlying meaning. He wanted to laugh, but suddenly felt a jolt of alarm. 'Damn it... how did my tacit understanding with that kid get so high?'
