Chapter 193: You Are the Internal Traitor, Right?
The Guard Corps remained where they were, a bit bewildered as they looked at each other in dismay. Only a few scattered irradiated beasts were left in the area, letting out continuous wails.
These remaining irradiated beasts could no longer pose any threat to them.
They had just witnessed Li Yu charging into the horde of irradiated beasts like a God of War, ruthlessly hunting down those bizarre tentacles. They still had not recovered from the shock.
To think that the man the Princess Imperial had brought back would actually be this powerful.
"Let's continue moving forward," Simon spoke up. Now that they had escaped the danger of the irradiated beasts, he believed that pressing onward was the correct choice.
"Continue moving forward?"
Tim had calmed down. He felt some regret over his recent behavior, but in the face of a life-and-death crisis, how could he not lose control?
His eyes flickered as he retorted, "That powerful friend hasn't returned yet. How can we just leave him behind and proceed on our own?"
His reasoning was sound; no one could find fault with it.
"If we continue staying here, there's no telling what other dangers might be drawn to us."
There was something else Simon left unsaid—the fact that the enemy could accurately track their movements and lay an ambush on their path forward was enough to prove a few things.
Tim frowned slightly and insisted, "We cannot abandon the Princess Imperial's friend."
"Heh..." Simon sneered. "Abandon? Do we even have the right to use that word?"
"All of us combined are no match for him. Are we even worthy of abandoning him?"
Simon's gaze gave Tim a subconscious pang of a guilty conscience. He averted his eyes and said unnaturally, "Why don't we let the Princess Imperial decide?"
Everyone turned their attention to Mo Duo. She was currently gazing in the direction of the heavy radiation zone, her fists unconsciously clenched. Although she was full of confidence in Li Yu, she was still slightly worried.
Sensing the group's gaze, Mo Duo pondered for a moment before speaking, "Then we will wait for him to return before moving forward."
She then added, "Otherwise, if there are any further dangers on the road ahead, I'm afraid we'll have a hard time dealing with them on our own."
Tim immediately breathed a sigh of relief. Simon hesitated to speak, but ultimately said nothing. Tuya naturally followed Mo Duo's lead.
The group began searching for cover to block any prying eyes from the sky, preparing to rest.
"Do any of you know the origins of those spaceships?" Mo Duo asked. The other party was clearly not comprised of stowaways, because their target had been the group themselves.
Tim's eyes flickered. Before he could speak, Simon answered, "We aren't sure either. We have never seen those spaceships before."
Hearing Simon's words, Tim chimed in with a nod, and Tuya did the same.
Mo Duo frowned slightly. If none of the three knew, it meant the enemy truly hadn't appeared in the past. So why were they suddenly ambushing them now?
What was the difference between the current Guard Corps and the previous Guard Corps? Was it because they were gathered together? Or was it because she was with them?
Mo Duo thought of something, her eyes flashing. The atmosphere here was dead silent. Simon was lost in unknown thoughts, and Tim was also keeping completely quiet.
They waited all the way until dawn broke. As ultraviolet rays once again scorched the earth, Li Yu's figure finally appeared in their line of sight.
Mo Duo grew impatient and stood up, wanting to walk over. But feeling that she was being too eager, she paused and stopped in her tracks.
"Oh, you guys haven't left yet." Li Yu was rather surprised. The best choice for Mo Duo and the rest definitely would have been to leave first.
"The Princess Imperial did not want to leave first..." Tuya explained. Mo Duo's gaze shifted slightly, but she didn't offer any explanations.
"Why were you delayed for so long? Could it be that you were purging the heavy radiation zone?" Tim asked. Although for him, the longer the delay, the better.
But he was genuinely curious. The heavy radiation zone was an incredibly dangerous place for them; never mind going deep inside, just getting close to it was enough to leave one trembling with fear.
"It's nothing." Li Yu dusted off his clothes, lacking any desire to answer Tim.
Sometime without them noticing, a tiny red crystal had appeared on his clothing. It was so miniscule that if one didn't look carefully, it would be almost impossible to spot.
"Let's keep moving."
The Guard Corps set off once again, though the atmosphere seemed somewhat subtle. Not long after, Simon approached Li Yu.
"I suspect there is an internal traitor in our ranks," Simon said in a low voice, looking at Li Yu with a solemn expression.
Li Yu didn't show any surprise. For any organization or team, an internal traitor was an eternal topic. Completely eliminating the existence of moles was practically impossible.
"The Planetary Core is the last secret of Blazing Eye Star, but there are quite a few people who know of this secret," Simon explained.
According to him, the Guard Corps had held the line for ten years. No commander was truly blindly loyal, and an order from Mo Duo's father wouldn't have been enough to make them hold out for this long.
In truth, the Planet Core Passage had been opened more than once, but they had never been able to open the final door. They were missing the most crucial item.
No one knew exactly what this item was.
"You suspect that the most crucial item is on Mo Duo, and it's exactly because she returned that we had that scene earlier?"
After hearing Simon's description, Li Yu roughly deduced the whole story.
"Under normal circumstances, me bringing Mo Duo back, finding one of the Guard Corps, and then using a certain commander to locate the rest of you would take a very long time."
Speaking of this, he glanced at Simon and pointedly remarked, "If we happened to run into some brain-dead commander acting up over who is qualified and who isn't, that would delay things even more."
"And during that delayed time, whoever the enemy might be, it would be enough time for them to travel to Blazing Eye Star from anywhere in the Star Glory Empire."
Simon nodded awkwardly.
Li Yu continued his analysis. "But since you were directly captured all at once by me, this time was drastically shortened. If you were those people, what would you do?"
Simon was just a bit impulsive; he wasn't an idiot. He pondered for a moment and said, "I'd try every means possible to stop us from moving forward."
"Then it's simple. Who was trying to stop us from moving forward just now?"
Simon pursed his lips, a familiar figure surfacing in his mind.
"Among the traitors of your ethnic group, who is the most powerful?" Li Yu asked again.
"High Priest Pucha. He was already the strongest among the Blazing Eye High Priests, and he should be even stronger now." Simon spoke a name.
Li Yu nodded thoughtfully. High Priest Pucha. If the Morgan Family wasn't behind this, then it had to be this Pucha.
And if the Morgan Family had known about some Planetary Core secret, they probably would have hollowed out this planet long ago.
The Morgan Family most likely knew nothing about the Planetary Core; this was a secret internal to the Blazing Eye Race.
If the number one traitor hadn't reported it, and combined with the Morgan Family's lack of interest, it was truly possible that the secret had been kept hidden.
Greed for life and fear of death was a biological instinct, but such emotions absolutely could not appear in commanders like them. Because if they were greedy for life and afraid of death, it meant there was a high likelihood of betrayal.
Tim's expression was moody as he watched Simon and Li Yu whispering about something unknown.
He knew that the persona he had so painstakingly cultivated had collapsed. Even the surrounding Guard Corps members were looking at him with strange gazes.
'Even so, they have no evidence to prove that I am a mole,' Tim consoled himself. The collapse of his persona was not an issue, as long as his true identity was not exposed.
Thinking of this, he couldn't help but curse those trash. By drawing in such a massive horde of irradiated beasts, if they had accidentally killed Mo Duo, the High Priest would probably subject them to skinning and deboning.
Simon sported a bitter expression. He was already suspicious of Tim, but he couldn't come up with a good way to verify his suspicions.
"Your Excellency, do you have any way to expose Tim?" Simon asked in a low voice, continuing to speak to himself, "Tim is a commander after all, and one-third of the troops here are his people."
"If we randomly accuse him without concrete evidence, I'm afraid it will incite a mutiny. But if we just leave it unaddressed..."
His mind was rather simple, and this sort of technical maneuver genuinely gave him a headache. As a result, he failed to notice that Li Yu's footsteps were slowing down as he approached Tim's side.
Tim's expression immediately became a bit unnatural, but he still took the initiative to speak, "Thank you for saving me earlier."
His attitude was exceedingly respectful, perhaps even humble, but Li Yu didn't pay much attention to his demeanor.
"You are the internal traitor, right..." Li Yu spoke faintly. His voice was neither loud nor soft, and while it didn't travel very far, it still attracted the attention of the nearby Guard Corps members.
"What do you mean!?" Tim's heart skipped a beat. Why would Li Yu suddenly jump out and accuse him?
Forcing a smile, he said, "Perhaps you are suspicious of me because of what just happened, but I have led the Guard Corps and held on for such a long time..."
Li Yu waved his hand, cutting off Tim's words. Simon also noticed that something was wrong and hastily came over to their side, waving away the surrounding Guard Corps members.
Li Yu said indifferently, "This idiot was thinking about how to find evidence against you, saying that mishandling this would cause a mutiny in the Guard Corps."
Only then did Tim's expression ease up. The three divisions of the Guard Corps had always been the Blazing Eye Race's last bottom line and hope.
Even those ordinary Blazing Eye Race members who angrily cursed the Guard Corps believed this from the depths of their hearts.
If a parasite emerged within their last hope, not just the Guard Corps members he led, but the other Guard Corps members as well would be unable to accept it. It would become the final straw that shattered their surviving faith.
They had agreed to sacrifice their lives together to safeguard their hope, yet their leader defected to the enemy first. Who could accept such a thing?
As long as they had this concern, they wouldn't be able to make a move on him directly. Tim's tense mind instantly relaxed.
"I am innocent..." Tim's confidence had bolstered considerably.
Simon's brow furrowed tightly. At present, it was only a suspicion regarding Tim. But if they rashly alerted the enemy, gathering evidence later on would likely be very difficult.
Li Yu lifted his head and cast him a glance before continuing, "However, those are merely his thoughts."
Hearing this sentence, Tim immediately had a bad premonition.
"In my view, if the Guard Corps mutinies, then I'll just suppress them. A lack of evidence is not a problem for me." Li Yu's tone was flat, but it left Tim on tenterhooks.
Simon's concerns were not Li Yu's concerns. Li Yu didn't want any further complications arising in his subsequent actions; all unstable factors had to be eliminated.
A Guard Corps mutiny was absolutely nothing to him!
As far as he was concerned, problems that could be solved with martial force weren't problems at all. If everything required racking one's brains, then what was the point of working so hard to increase one's strength?
Although Tim's Mental Power intensity had also reached the C-class, preventing Li Yu from using the Alluring Voice Ability to control him, it wasn't as if the Alluring Voice Ability was the only way to extract the truth.
The Red and White Twin Blades crossed with sparks flying, then slowly came to rest against Tim's neck. A single gentle movement would be enough to slice open Tim's fragile windpipe.
Tim's pupils dilated, his face turning pale in shock, and even his breathing became exceedingly cautious.
"Are you the internal traitor?" Li Yu's voice was peaceful, as if he were just asking if he had eaten yet. He immediately added, "Tell the truth and I can spare your life for now. I am a man of my word."
Damn! Simon was completely stunned. This was Li Yu's method? Direct coercion through martial force?
"Wh... wh... what do you want to do?" Tim's entire body was trembling, his words stuttering.
The commotion here had already attracted the attention of quite a few Guard Corps members. Seeing that Li Yu had actually held blades to Tim's throat, Several Guard Corps members instantly turned pale in shock. They raised their long spears, gazing vigilantly at Li Yu.
"Stand down!" Simon couldn't help but shout sternly. He finally understood that this guy didn't care about the Blazing Eye Race at all; the only thing he cared about was Mo Duo herself.
If something went wrong, he really would kill!
"What's going on?" Mo Duo and Tuya walked over from the front of the formation.
"I found an internal traitor..." Li Yu's tone was casual.
"An internal traitor?" Mo Duo looked at Tim. She wasn't familiar with Tim, so she didn't have much of an emotional reaction.
"Since you're handling an internal traitor, then there's no problem." Mo Duo nodded.
Tim instantly felt a bit like breaking down. Fuck, he's the internal traitor just because Li Yu said so? Without a single shred of evidence, solely based on suspicion, he had drawn his blades.
"You can't treat me like this! You're extorting a confession! If I answer no, you won't be satisfied at all. All you want is for me to admit that I'm the internal traitor!" Tim spoke rapidly, raising his voice.
"You harbor ill intentions! If you ask me, you're the more suspicious one!"
Tim shouted loudly, as if clutching at a lifesaving straw.
Li Yu frowned slightly. As the Red and White Twin Blades quivered, crimson blood trickled down from Tim's neck. He sounded slightly displeased, "I asked you a question. Why are you spouting all this nonsense?"
"What if it really isn't him?" Simon also couldn't bear it; after all, their camaraderie was still there.
"Hmm..." Li Yu pondered for a moment. "Then I suppose I'd apologize to him."
'I don't fucking need your apology! I'd probably be dead and unable to hear it by then!' Tim wailed in his heart.
"Forget it, let's just bury him and be done with it. Your people won't be able to stir up any waves anyway." Li Yu shook his head, unwilling to waste any more time.
"Speak... tell... I'll tell you! I am the internal traitor! I'm the internal traitor!" Tim completely broke down. He truly didn't want to die; otherwise, he wouldn't have mutinied and defected in the first place.
It was exactly because he saw clearly that the Blazing Eye Race had absolutely no hope that he had chosen to defect.
Even if the hope of survival after confessing was extremely slim, he didn't mind taking a gamble. At the very least, it was better than dying right now.
As for stubbornly denying it to the death just to cause Li Yu some insignificant trouble with his own life, that thought hadn't even crossed his mind.
If he had that kind of resolve, he wouldn't have betrayed them.
Li Yu nodded, still showing no emotional ripples. "Oh, since you've admitted it, then explain yourself properly. What exactly is going on?"
