Chapter 234: Mermaid Princess Olivia
"Analyzing it now is useless. Those royal guards aren't even willing to dock our mission with theirs," Max said mournfully, running his hands through his hair as he looked at Edwin. "Think of a way."
"If the concert starts and we still haven't docked our mission, Princess Klein will probably be drowned in Public Opinion."
Edwin clearly thought of this too, his expression not looking great. Even though the Silver Snake Mercenary Group fleeing on the eve of battle still had suspicious points, most Citizens wouldn't care about that.
"Oh ho, since when did you start considering things for Princess Klein?" Li Yu teased slightly.
"He's thinking about the Mermaid Princess," Edwin ruthlessly exposed Max's disguise.
As the saying goes, quarrel at the head of the bed... ahem, although Edwin and Max were brothers, brothers don't hold grudges overnight; it's the same thing.
Both of them tacitly forgot their previous unpleasantness and were brewing new unpleasantness.
"I was wondering..." Li Yu seemingly just understood, but in his heart, he was as clear as a mirror. He stretched and looked at the Vitel Galaxy that was already close at hand.
Bart finally stopped wiping his blade, his voice somewhat old: "Why not just have Princess Klein contact the Mermaid Princess directly? Why bicker with those Guard Corps?"
"Then we can't just watch this happen, can we?" Max was quite anxious.
"I have a way, just follow me." Li Yu wasn't in a hurry. Klein seemed to have foreseen this and had given him a solution.
"What way? We can't just force our way in," Max said expectantly.
"As long as we see the Mermaid Princess, we can just communicate with her directly, right?" Li Yu said it easily, making Max roll his eyes.
"See the Mermaid Princess? Easy to say... Those who can get close to the Mermaid Princess are either her royal guards or big shots. How are you going to get close?"
"Big shots?" Li Yu's expression was strange. "Aren't you two?"
Max was rarely embarrassed, scratching his head and saying, "My dad is, I'm not quite one yet."
Edwin understood Li Yu's meaning and pondered, "Relying on our influence will take some time to take effect. We are not our fathers; our influence needs time to ferment."
"Alright, I'll give it a try then," Li Yu rubbed his chin and pondered.
"You!?" Max widened his eyes, doubting him. "What way do you have? Approaching blindly will highly likely get you mistaken for an attacker, especially at a time like this."
Li Yu glanced at Max. "Don't worry, I won't approach her. She'll come over herself."
He was displeased with this guy's attitude, so Li Yu was too lazy to explain. No matter how Max guessed, he didn't respond, leaving Max to Scratch one's head in perplexity anxiously.
...
Wherever the Mermaid Princess went, she not only attracted local Citizens but also a large number of Interstellar Travelers, even cross-civilization travelers.
At this moment, Li Yu and the others were in the crowd. The crowd surged beside them, but they remained as steady as a mountain.
At the edge of the crowd were rows of soldiers maintaining order, preventing anyone from rushing forward. The soldiers in this section frequently looked toward Li Yu's group, their eyes carrying warnings and vigilance.
They clearly saw that these few were highly threatening life forms.
"What... exactly do you want to do?"
Max was somewhat worried, swallowing constantly, looking tense. "Are we really not going to cause a riot and rush onto the Spaceship? Even if nothing happens, we'll lose a lot of face."
Li Yu was too lazy to answer and waited silently.
After a while, a commotion occurred in the distant crowd. One big shot after another, accompanied by guards, arrived here to welcome the Mermaid Princess.
The crowd let out deafening cheers. These big shots wore amiable smiles, waving their hands as they walked.
Setting aside the Mermaid Princess's celebrity effect, the special political Status she represented alone was worth this Archon personally welcoming her.
Figure after figure walked by. It was precisely because an assassination incident had just occurred that they needed to make a big show of it to demonstrate the safety of the Vitel Star System.
Suddenly, even louder cheers surged from afar like a tide.
Li Yu looked up and saw the hatch of the Ocean Rose open. A group of Fish-People slowly walked out, surrounding a large crystal tank.
That shark-man Kieg was leading them, looking ferocious and glaring at the surrounding crowd.
Inside the crystal tank, the Mermaid Princess's figure was faintly visible as she slowly swam. The material of the crystal tank was special and not transparent.
A pair of eyes adorned with light-colored eyeshadow peeked out from the water, revealing a myriad of charms. The rippling water in the tank couldn't block her radiant allure.
"Olivia! Olivia!"
The cheers were deafening like a tsunami.
The Mermaid Princess's name was Olivia. Just hearing the ear-shattering cheers told you how popular she was.
The leaders of Vitel exchanged friendly greetings with the Mermaid Princess.
However, when passing the section where Li Yu was located, Olivia suddenly made her royal guards stop. She slowly turned her head, her gaze piercing through the crowd, and precisely locked onto Li Yu. The next moment, she stepped forward and walked over.
The crowd instantly boiled over, wanting to swarm forward to touch their idol. The soldiers desperately held back the human tide, nearly causing a stampede. They gritted their teeth and said, "Your Excellency Olivia, please do not approach. It's not safe here."
Each of her Fish-Person royal guards exuded a tyrannical Aura, vigilantly looking around, and also advised: "Princess, it's best if you don't walk around easily. It's best to follow the planned route."
"It's okay," Olivia spoke up. "I believe everyone won't hurt me."
Her voice was gentle and extremely pleasant to the ear, as pure as water. Those who heard it felt their moods calm down. The commotion in the crowd miraculously stopped, and the Guard Corps walked into the crowd.
The crowd spontaneously made a path.
Finally, the Guard Corps stopped in front of Li Yu. Olivia poked her head out and, under the spotlight, said softly, "Hello, could you please come with me?"
"Hiss—"
The sound of sharp intakes of breath rose one after another. The surrounding crowd cast glances of disbelief, envy, and jealousy.
Those squeezed next to them hurriedly backed away, isolating them and making them extremely conspicuous.
"Who are these guys? What is their relationship with the Princess?"
"Why did she pick him?"
"What a lucky guy. Damn it, why wasn't it me..."
Li Yu didn't change his expression and nodded. "Alright."
Seeing the deadpan Edwin, the shark-man Kieg instantly knew who these people were and immediately tried to stop them. "Princess, they are..."
Before he could finish, he was interrupted by Olivia, who said softly, "It's okay, Kieg. I know."
Kieg snorted coldly, glaring viciously at the few of them, but in front of everyone, he didn't say anything more.
"Please come with me."
Olivia turned around, and Li Yu's group followed, trailing behind the procession. Max looked somewhat excited, his Smart Terminal flashing crazily taking pictures.
The Archon of Vitel paused his gaze on Max and Edwin for a moment. A sharp light flashed in his eyes, as if he understood something.
Walking through the passage and boarding the welcome Spaceship, Max still didn't understand what had happened along the way. Coming back to his senses, he asked Li Yu in amazement, "How did you do that?"
"Take a guess." Li Yu stared fixedly at Olivia's crystal tank, not looking away.
"I thought you were bragging." Max didn't expect that it would really be just as Li Yu said, they were invited.
Max guessed, "Could it be that Klein had already communicated with the Mermaid Princess, so she recognized you?"
"Couldn't it be because of my unconcealable handsomeness?" Li Yu retorted.
The real reason, of course, was related to Klein. When she told Li Yu about this matter, she had given him a colored scale. This was the Mermaid Princess's scale.
As long as he was within a certain range, the Mermaid Princess could sense it and thus lock onto him.
Regarding the dissatisfaction of the Guard Corps, the Mermaid Princess and Klein probably knew about it long ago, which was why Klein gave Li Yu this token—to prevent him from not being able to contact the Mermaid Princess and also to prove his Identity.
Inside the welcome Spaceship, Li Yu and the others stayed in a Lounge. Several fierce-looking Fish-People around them stared fixedly at them, occasionally licking their lips.
Max was in high spirits and said to Li Yu, "Did you know that blue-striped hunting Fish-Person, he looks fierce with his jagged teeth, but actually he's Not to be Trifled With [Note: The context here likely meant to say 'vegetarian/Not to be Trifled With' depending on slang. Raw says '吃素的' which literally means 'eats vegetarian', often slang for 'weak/pushover', but Max could mean it literally]."
"Isn't it quite a contrast? He's called Lan Lan by Olivia's fans. And that one over there, covered in scars, his nickname is Ba Niang..."
Li Yu was expressionless, too lazy to engage with Max.
Shortly after, Olivia arrived. She was wearing specialized Armor and looked like a normal humanoid creature. Singing in the crystal tank was just a performance style.
"Sorry to keep you waiting. The Archons have expressed their apologies for the previous attack multiple times, even though I've already stated I don't mind." Her voice was soft. When she opened her mouth, one could clearly see the jagged teeth inside.
Her eyes were pure, making people afraid to look directly at them, as if they could see their own inner selves through them.
Olivia's upper body resembled a humanoid, her appearance closely matching the Interstellar Society Aesthetics of humans. Exquisite and enchantingly beautiful, she was no less than Klein, perhaps even slightly surpassing her.
"It's nothing..." Li Yu shook his head, not minding, and looked at her with interest. This was the second Mermaid he had seen with his own eyes.
Her noble colored scales on her lower half were concealed by the Armor. Her hair was slightly curly, cascading down her back.
Kieg snorted coldly, his eyes fierce, clearly very dissatisfied with Li Yu's gaze.
Olivia met his gaze. No emotion could be seen in her eyes. After a moment, Li Yu blinked. What's wrong with this Mermaid? Not talking, just looking at me like this.
"Damn, this guy actually maintained eye contact with Olivia for over a minute. How is that possible!?"
Max was immensely shocked internally, and Edwin also found it somewhat unbelievable.
It was said that the Mermaid Princess's eyes could make people see their darkest and most cowardly inner selves. Almost no one could look directly at them for over a minute.
Could the rumors be false?Max was somewhat skeptical. He also leaned in and stared at Olivia's eyes, and instantly became somewhat dazed.
He seemed to see the time when he took a huge risk leading the Phantom Squad deep into No Man's Land. He knew that with his father around, he definitely wouldn't be killed; exchanging him for benefits was the best choice.
So he knew he wouldn't die. However, his subordinate soldiers were subconsciously ignored by him, or rather, blinded by the Merit, he was unwilling to care.
If he had succeeded then, Li Yu would have had nothing to do with it; the evidence he possessed would have been enough to prove the origin of the virus.
He subconsciously shifted his gaze away, not daring to look any longer.
