Chapter 46: Knowing When to Bow

~7 min read 1,355 words

Whatever had provoked the Goat Man, it was as if he had completely forgotten about yesterday's events. He didn't mention a single word about it, merely wearing a constant cold sneer on his face.

Held at gunpoint by dozens of Psionic Light Guns, the trio had no choice but to let themselves be escorted away.

The Mechanical Door opened. Surprisingly, there wasn't a single gladiator outside. The silence was somewhat terrifying.

Hunter's teeth chattered. He had mentally prepared himself recently, knowing that following Li Yu would eventually lead to trouble.

Yet, now that disaster had struck, he still found it hard to accept.

Mo Duo kept her head down, a green light flickering in her eyes. 'Wait,' she realized. She couldn't sense any murderous intent from the old Goat Man's emotions. 'What exactly does he want?'

Meanwhile, Li Yu pondered the situation. 'Although this group has excellent equipment, their individual strength is lacking. I should be able to briefly control them using The Voice.'

Even though the gladiators were nowhere to be seen, the staff at Tyron Tower hadn't decreased. In fact, there seemed to be even more of them.

With the arrival of Dark Star, any Discerning Person could tell that the Archon had long since abandoned this place. Amidst the ensuing panic and unrest, the Black Market had actually become a deliberately ignored haven.

As a Black Market overseen by the Tyron Chamber of Commerce, it felt exceptionally safe during a crisis like this.

"Damn, that's the guy who caused the last match to be voided," an octopus-headed alien muttered, extending a tentacle to point at the escorted Li Yu.

He was no longer a nobody. On the contrary, many people in the Black Market recognized him. For daring to openly oppose the Tyron Chamber of Commerce, everyone couldn't help but give him a thumbs-up, accompanied by the label of idiot.

"Haha! Not acting so cocky now, are you? Serves you right!"

Quite a few onlookers gloated. Even though the bets had been voided and all wagers returned to their respective accounts, meaning they had suffered no actual losses, they still rejoiced in his misfortune.

They certainly didn't mind seeing Li Yu down on his luck.

Li Yu was calculating the perfect moment to escape. Surrendering without a fight was absolutely out of the question.

He glanced up at the old Goat Man leading the way, who was preparing to take them onto an elevator.

Tap!

A slight pain came from the back of his calf. He turned around in surprise, only to see Mo Duo gently shaking her head at him.

Although she could no longer sense Li Yu's emotions, based on the time they had spent together, Mo Duo knew this guy would never quietly submit.

And if he acted out now, it would likely lead to severe consequences.

Li Yu withdrew his gaze, looking slightly thoughtful. 'Mo Duo must have noticed something,' he concluded. Meanwhile, the poor Hunter's face had turned pale as his mind flashed through his entire frivolous life.

An ignorant youth, a naive and hot-blooded young man, and now, a decadent and incompetent adult.

Born a nobody, dying an even greater nobody. He was so terrified that his footsteps staggered unevenly.

The old Goat Man stood with a haughty posture, his hands clasped behind his back. They boarded a private elevator. Unlike the circular platforms outside, this one resembled a small room, spacious enough that over a dozen people didn't feel crowded at all.

"Manager Siege, what exactly is going on? Can't you give us a little hint?" Li Yu asked. Although Mo Duo had stopped him earlier, it didn't mean he was going to remain entirely passive.

The old Goat Man cast him a somewhat surprised glance. "You aren't entirely brainless."

Li Yu narrowed his eyes slightly.

Hunter shivered. Even a fool could tell that the situation wasn't what it initially seemed.

"You will naturally find out when we arrive," the old Goat Man declared, putting on airs. He stroked his goatee without even turning his head.

"But if you don't give me a clue, my heart just can't feel at ease," Li Yu replied, pointing at his chest.

The old Goat Man didn't react. He was still very displeased with this guy, whether it was because he surrendered to The Howler or because he dared to negotiate terms with him yesterday.

Li Yu ignored the old Goat Man and continued to speak casually, "Once my heart isn't at ease, I tend to get impulsive."

"And when I get impulsive, things tend to go wrong."

Not all managers possessed Tu Rui's level of strength. The old Goat Man was not a D-Class Lifeform, but he wasn't worried. Were over a dozen Psionic Light Guns a joke to him?

At such close range, Li Yu wouldn't have anywhere to hide.

"Heh." The old Goat Man sneered and turned around. "I've seen your resume. You're just some guy who suddenly appeared from some obscure little planet."

"Did you think you were a big shot just because you made Thorn Flame suffer a few losses?"

Li Yu remained expressionless, simply staring at him.

"Child," he said, addressing Li Yu. It was not meant kindly, at least not at this moment.

His eyes were cold and indifferent. "Over the years, I've only learned one thing, and now I'll impart it to you: don't take yourself too seriously!"

"In the face of a Star-Destroying Cannon, even the strongest individual will be reduced to ashes. Before the Tyron Chamber of Commerce, knowing when to bow appropriately is not a disgrace."

Hunter felt a chill in his heart, and Mo Duo bit her lower lip tightly. These words were truly damaging morale, striking right at the spirit.

After all, Li Yu had been experiencing smooth sailing lately, scheming against one person after another and escaping from various deadly situations.

Yet now, someone had suddenly emerged to tell him that he was actually nothing. The psychological blow of such a statement was easy to imagine.

Hunter was affected because of his age, and Mo Duo because of her special past. But what about Li Yu?

"You make a very good point," Li Yu nodded. He didn't show any anger or resentment, but rather looked as if he deeply understood.

Nobody understood the profound power of a collective better than he did.

"However," he tilted his head with a hint of confusion. "Can you really represent the Tyron Chamber of Commerce?"

A cold glint flashed through the old Goat Man's narrow eyes.

"Over the years, I've also learned one thing: always have a Plan B for any situation."

"Drop your guns!" A bizarre syllable suddenly burst from Li Yu's mouth. His voice sounded as if it were echoing from the Void itself, ethereal and mysterious.

The next moment, the dozen or so Tyron guards simultaneously lowered their Psionic Light Guns in unison. This bizarre scene made Hunter jump in fright.

Mo Duo, however, could sense it more clearly. It was a specialized use of Mental Power, and a very high-level one at that.

Li Yu could vividly feel his Mental Power rapidly draining. Controlling so many people at once was a bit too much for him to sustain.

"Aim at him!"

He issued another command. Under the old Goat Man's terrified gaze, the guards raised their Psionic Light Guns and aimed them directly at him.

"I have a Plan B. What about yours?"

"What's going on?!"

"Why can't I control myself?"

"Manager Siege, we don't want to aim at you!"

"..."

The guards continued to shout, their voices laced with panic. Siege couldn't help but step backward until his back was pressed firmly against the metal wall. The freezing touch of the steel instantly sobered him up.

'This is the Tyron Chamber of Commerce. He can't kill me. He can't kill me,' Siege repeated to himself endlessly in his mind.

However, staring down the cold barrels of the Psionic Light Guns, he had no doubt that with a single command from the other party, he would be shot full of holes like a hornet's nest.
